I have gotten meaty short rib at Florence Meat Market @ 5 Jones Street in the West Village. I wanted the bone-in but they will cut the meat to your specifications.

Where Can I Buy Pork Belly?

The Florence Meat Market located @ 5 Jones Street in Greenwich Village is an old time butcher shop who will take your order and hand cut the meat to your exact specifications while you wait. It is a very small shop and not much on display....so you need to tell the butcher what you need and they will get it our of the refridgerator in back or down stairs. For the high quality meat I would consider them reasonable priced. I have gotten short ribs and t-bones in the past and plan to go back often for other meats (beef, pork, chicken, duck, etc).

Wa Jeal -New Sichuan Restaurant 83rd/2nd Ave

I went last Thursday night with 2 friends. For appetizers we ordered Dan Dan Noodles (A26) and Sichan Pork Dumplings w/ Chili-Garlic Soy (A32) and both were very good but not great. For our main courses we ordered Double Cooked Streaky Pork w/ Spicy Capicum & Leeks(C17), Crispy Sea Scallops w/ Black Peppercorn Sauce(6) and Baby Eggplant w/ Spicy Garlic Sauce (45). I enjoyed the tasty pork and the scallops were quite good and the eggplant was excellant.

The service was very good and the interior was very nice. The food may not be Grand Szechuan or Sichan Gourment but I will definitely be back to try more items so close to where I live.

freshdirect beef for tartare? (or other sources)

I recently tried Florent Meat Market on Jones Street in Greenwich Village to get short ribs. It is a very small place and reminds you of the old time butcher shops. It was facinating to watch the butcher cuts the meat right in front of you and ask how you want your meat cut or how you plan to cook it and will offer suggestions. The meat was very high quality and reasonably priced. Give them a try!

Your Favorite Szechuan Dishes in Wu Liang Ye, Szechuan Gourmet and/or Grand Sichuan

LOL!!! I just finished eating double-cooked pork bellies with chilli, leeks about 15 minutes ago. The dish full I had was very tasty and not tough at all. I love the description in the reply of SomeRandomIdiots "fat to lean meat ratio is 2:1". No truer words have been spoken.

Are there any farmers markets on the UES?

There is a farmer's market on Saturday's in the playground of the school on 67th St. between York and 1st Ave. It is not part of the city greenmarket and won't appear in their listings. Nice selection of fruits, vegetables, cheese, nuts, bread, fish, plants and flowers. There is also a flea market inside the school gym.

I agree Dipalo's on Grand St. in Little Italy has a good selection and tasting of olive oils. Lou behind the counter can also tell you about the characteristics of each of the oils. The last time I was there I got he Santa Chiara - Costa Dei Rosmarini which cost $27.99 for a 750ml bottle. I need to go back and get another bottle sonn.

What makes great French onion soup?

Recently I read somewhere to add a small amount of basalmic vinegar to the broth. I tried it and it really adds to the flavor and gives deepth to the taste of the beef broth and onions.

Thanksgiving Dinner Delivered

Agata & Valentiina @ 79th & 1st Avenue has a Thanksgiving Day food offer but not sure of their deliver area. Also Eli's or Vinegar Factory have everything you might need but they tend to be more expensive and again not sure of their delivery area.

Looking for a wine bar on the UES, that also serves light bites

There is Vero which is across the street from Uva, but it is rather small. Also Bar Italia which is at corner of 77th & 2nd. I have not been to Felice at 64th & 1st yet, but that might work too.

Burrata can also be found at Di Palo's in Little Italy or Agata & Valentina (E 79th & 1st Ave). The shipment from Italy usually arrives on Friday's but you should call ahead first to make sure they have it in stock.
