Great Bakeries in New Haven where they make everthing on site

They never have what you want. I live in town and try to shop at local shops. Their products are good, no question, but 3 out of the last 4 times I have been in I leave without anything. The peanut butter chocolate mousse cake is a good example. A guest brought one to a dinner at our house. Tried to order one today (Thursday) for Saturday and was told, no, not doing that this weekend. Order something else and maybe we will change our minds and you will get lucky!
I am done. Never again.

Essex CT area. du glace, restaurant du village or River Tavern?

Pip is great.
I want to like du Glace but they make it difficult.
River Tavern is a scene but food is very good and it is fun.
Routier always a reliable standby.
Anyone know when du Village will reopen?

Best (or just new) Gourmet Stores in the greater New Haven area

Bishops does not make their prepared foods on site. They purchase from a supplier. Generally not very good at all. Their pies leave much to be desired. Best to buy their cookies in the freezer case and bake them off t home. Bishops could be great but they strive to be mediocre.

Bishops is actually in Guilford

Copper Beech Inn

Last time I was at Pip (month or so ago) we had made a reservation but they could not get us into the lovely dining room of Pip, only the outer lobby area. The Host tried his best and was gracious above and beyond the call of duty. The food was excellent, the service was excellent. We were pampered beyond belief. What a wonderful experience. Going back on Saturday night!!

Branford, CT

As to Foe, the "roasted osyters" are only fair and terribly overpriced. Other than that Foe is a good middle of the road choice. Le Petit is the winner in Branford!!

Foe Bistro Branford, CT

Foe is a good steady choice, although I enjoyed the old location more than the new. I have bad memories of previous restaurants in that space. But the staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is very good,,I love the chicken and usually I never order chicken out. I recommend it without much hesitation.

Che Tango, Branford, CT

How sad..it is closed. Ciao Che Tango!! Ciao Robin!!

Bocca Restaurant-East Haven, CT

For great eggplant parm go to Romeo and Ceasar on Orange Street.

Copper Beech Inn

We were at CBI for brunch this past Sunday. We arrived at 11:30 and we were the ONLY patrons until about 1PM when two other parties came in. The food was ok. The menu is limited. The yogurt and berries were fine (more like yogurt blended with whipped cream). The baked goods were marginal. I ordered the lobster benedict. The lobster was good, the eggs: one cooked fine, one hard as a rock. The bacon was very good, the lamb sausage fair. Another in our party also had rock hard poached eggs. Server was very nice. We were treating a relative and the HOST came up and announced very loudly that he had applied our $100.00 GIFT CARD and put the balance of 70 cents on our credit card!! We really did not appreciate it that our guest knew we were using a gift card, especially when we had left the table to pay the bill and explain the situation. Not good manners.

We have loved the Brasserie, especially under the last chef and Chris Sperling in the front of the house. What a fantastic team they were. They have each moved on. The new chef is getting a lot of press, but as for us, our delight in Pip has greatly waned. We go much less frequently. Pip has great ambiance, much more so than the main diing room (a really awful room). Methinks the new chef is trying a bit too hard.
