Best Vegetarian Entrees below 34th St.

I am looking for the best vegetarian entrees in Manhattan - anywhere south of 34th St.

Here are the constraints:
1. The dishes CAN include dairy and eggs but not seafood, etc.
2. The dishes CAN be small plates, but not appetizers.
3. The dishes CANNOT include fake meat.
4. Ideally, dishes are more imaginative than roasted vegetables or just spaghetti and sauce.

Can't wait to try them!

Artichoke Basilles Pizzeria West Chelsea

Just tried the squares. Unbelievably oily. The entire crust was saturated with oil, so much so that when I got to the end crust, I felt like I was just drinking oil. Ew. I'm hoping this is just a glitch in getting things running. I'm looking forward to a good pizza from there.

Paired 'regular' and vegetarian tasting menus.

We had a great veggie tasting at Del Posto. No useless roasted veggies, etc. It actually appeared that they put as much thought into the veggie tasting as the meat tasting. Yum!

Need a special place that is both veg friendly and not too dressy

If you take him to Dirt Candy, he may become a 'live to eat' guy

Vegetarian-friendly Restaurant Week Options?

I find it's always better to just get a la cart, since the veggie entree for R. Week is generally meh.

Need lively restaurant with vegetarian options for bday dinner for 6-8.

Boqueria in Soho is great! Fun, lively and really good food for vegetarians

Mid-priced dinner in West LA for group

Thanks. We wanted to do less than 20 dollars an entree but not cheesy or cheap. So, we are going to Candela Taco Bar and Lounge.

Best Italian (money no object) in L.A. area for a VERY picky eater

I took my Italian friend to Girasole on Larchmont and she swears its as good as her grandmother's!

Mid-priced dinner in West LA for group

Hi-
We're looking for a dinner place to celebrate a 30th birthday that is FUN, high energy for a group of 6 people 25-30 year old. We want to go somewhere has good drinks, and entrees are not priced more than 20 dollars a person. Half of us are vegetarians, and the other half eat meat. We would like to go this Saturday.

Favorite hangover foods (or restaurants)?

Snug Harbor in Santa Monica

Dessert Tasting Menus

I saw someone mentioned that Providence has a dessert tasting menu, and LOVE the idea. What are other places that also do?

Mexican Food without Lard

Sorry! Let me clarify- I live in Westwood, so nothing farther east than Hollywood.

Mexican Food without Lard

What is the best Mexican place that DOES NOT use lard?

up scale vegetarian???

The Cobras on Beverly blvd is still open.

And Riva is doing pizza Sun-Thursday, I think.

up scale vegetarian???

It depends how upscale you want to go. I am vegetarian, but tend to shy away from the fake meat and tofu substitutions that many places offer. Instead, here are a few places that don't substitute for meat, but are good in and of themselves.

I think the best for an 18 year old's party is Cobras and Matadors in West Hollywood. They seem to have changed their menu and offer a lot of vegetarian stuff, so much, in fact, that we leave stuffed every time. Also, it will likely make your son feel a bit older and cooler!

Pretty much any Italian, that's not frou-frou, will work. My hands down favorite is Girasole on Larchmont. One of my meat-eating friends said it was the best osso-buco since her grandmother's. My family members who are vegetarian were overwhelmed because it was one of the first places that actually offers more than 2 token veggie options, and had to unbuckle their belts when they left.

For pizza check out Riva in Santa Monica-the food is good and it's a casual, upscale atmosphere.

I seek that many people here are fans of Akasha, but every person who has grown up vegetarian (that I know), never wants to go there again. It's just not tasty food...it's meh, in my opinion.

Off the beaten path, romantic birthday suggestions?

I've recommended it before, but my favorite is Girasole.

Special Vegetarian Experience

Hey-
I'm vegetarian too. I really like Girasole on Larchmont, they have tons of great vegetarian options (yes multiple options, and not just the annoying roasted vegetable option!). Cobras and Matadors has many vegetarian tapas, and is fun.

Best Tiramisu in Town

Girasole on Larchmont. Great Italian.

ISO fantastic FALAFEL

I love Sunnin at Westwood blvd and Santa Monica. Friends have moved from here to the east coast and demand it whenever they're in town. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but soo yummy!

Restaurant near Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica (under $20 person)

I think Sushi Masu (just south of Santa Monica on Westwood) is really good, and not so expensive.

Veggie but not fake-meat/ raw stuff/ vegan

Thanks so much for all of these from all of you! I'm looking forward to some good meals!

Veggie but not fake-meat/ raw stuff/ vegan

I'm looking for restaurants that have good veggie options beyond roasted vegetables. Closer to the Westside. To make this difficult, neither of us are into fake-meat/ raw stuff/ vegan food and we are both Indian-so eat enough of that at home. We both eat dairy and eggs.

To give you an idea of the places we've found and like (note that these are just entrees that are good to give an idea of what kind of food we're looking for)

Cobras & Matadors: Amazing veggie options
Houston's-great veggie burger
Pitfire Pizza (westwood)- great bean soup, burrata pizza, veggie sandwich and pumpkin pasta
Sushi Masu- Vegetarian sushi combo
Girasole (on larchmount)-amazing pastas and soups
Cholada (on the PCH) -many veggie options
El Chollo (santa monica)-it's a chain, but it works for us! Bean enchiladas/fajitas, etc.
Coral Tree (brentwood/century city mall)-good paninis
