Apple Annie's

TERRIBLE service, mediocre food. I've tried Annie's for both lunch and dinner and haven't had a good experience. I'd normally detail the short-comings (other than don't order the burger or turkey sandwich) but I'll digress since they are only open two-weeks. They have a lot of work to do. That being said the space is fantastic.

Want to send my Austin Friends to Dinner

Your right, I don't think you can cover a full-meal there and really enjoy it (wine, etc) for much less than $100 pp. It is a really special place, not something you can find anywhere, so to me it's worth it.

Visiting Austin - Need Recommendations

Perla's (new seafood place on South Congress)
Uchi (overrated sushi)
Musashino (GREAT sushi, atmosphere isn't as good as Uchi)
Homeslice (Best pizza in Austin, usually a long wait though)
Vespaio (Best italian in Austin- not saying much, Austin's isn't known for Italian)

Want to send my Austin Friends to Dinner

If you want something downtown:
Lamberts- fancy bbq. Hip, good vibe, solid food, not extremeley expensive but pricey for bbq.
Uchi- sushi place that the public loves. Personally I think Musashino is far superior but this place is always crowded.

Hudsons on the Bend is a special place, very Texas. Personally I'd send them there, its about 20 minutes from downtown. They could go to Oasis or Iguana Grill on the lake before for a drink.

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is opening Saturday on Lamar between Barton Springs and Riverside Drive. I had the opportunity to check out the space and I have to say its TOP NOTCH. Great build-out and in my humble opinion the best java on the planet (I also love the iced blended beverages). They are going to offer a yogurt/granola/parfait bar which looks pretty tasty and using all local vendors in the baked goods section. Definitely a welcomed addition to Austin!

Uchi, Ranch 616, Bess Bistro, Belmont, and Vespaio (bar)

Uchi is highly overrated and isn't even in the same league as Mushashino (Uchi chef Tyson Cole worked there).

Ranch 616 has a great atmosphere but the food is fair at best, better off going to Lambert's for similiar cuisine.

Austin Burger Smackdown!

1. Houstons
2. Casino
3. P Terrys
4. Hut's
5. Mike's
6. Sullivans's

Haven't tried the burgers at the nicer establishments but I'm sure the Four Seasons does a decent burger. I can't imagine any of the Mexican places are really known for fabulous burgers- but I could be wrong. No reason to go to any fast-food joint in Austin when you can go to P Terrys or Five Guys.

NY Deli in Austin

Well I finally tried Little Deli on Woodrow. Though not a Jewish Deli it certainly is the best deli is Austin, WITHOUT A DOUBT. Little Deli serves thinly sliced Boar's Head meat, accompanied by a variety of different breads (rye, wedge, sourdough, hoagie) delivered fresh every morning. This place is so for real, the owner (a great Italian guy from up north) really puts his heart and soul into the establishment.

Little Deli takes pride in soup made daily (check out the soup of the day), fresh potato salad, pasta salad, bread delivered daily (nothing kept overnight), and meat cut to-order. The veggies are brought in fresh and dressings made in house. I sampled the Italian wedge (solid), turkey/mozz on rye, chicken salad, and tuna - wasn't disappointed by any of them, something I can't normally in regard to food in Austin. Sort of reminds me of my neighborhood luncheonette growing up in the Northeast. I'll definitely be back.

Ideas: Restaurants in San Antonio?

I'm going to San Antonio for a night, I wanted to try something authentic to the city. Anyone have any recs? Probably want to do something casual.

Best Pizza in Austin?

Since I moved to Austin a little over a year ago I've tried at least a dozen pies, though I haven't found anything like the North-east, I've definitely enjoyed some decent pizza. Home-Slice, Hog Island, East-Side pies, Hoboken Pies, and Craig O's (Bbq chicken) all are fairly good. I've heard good things about Sarcone's as well...

NY Deli in Austin

I have to agree, Katz's is nothing like a NY deli, it wouldn't stay open more than a week anywhere in the Tri-State area, you get a better sandwich at a corner bodega in New York. Hog Island is actually good, it's not really a deli, but they have solid hoagies and cheese-steaks, the owner told me that he flies the bread in from the northeast every other day. I've heard good things about Sarcone's and Little Deli but have to yet to try either. Manny Hattans is average but nothing spectacular, the bagles are from H&H but I believe they are only flown in once a week. I'm not sure why they haven't been able to pull off a good deli (especially downtown), maybe it's just not in demand, I'm not sure. Houston has a great deli called "Kenny and Ziggy's" and Dallas has some excellent delis as well. If anyone finds any good pizza or deli please respond, thanks.

Austin Deli

Thanks for your input, I will absolutely give them a shot. Hog Island has an excellent cheese-steak, I believe them bring bread in from the Northeast.

Lobster Restaurants

Anyone know of any good restaurants to get lobster in Austin? I've tried some of the steakhouses but they are definitely overpriced. Thanks.

Austin Deli

Has anyone found a good deli in Austin. I recently moved here from NYC and haven't had any luck. I've tried Katz's (terrible), Manny Hattans (fair), and a few sub/hoagie shops. So far Hog Island is top on my list.
