Tired of Restaurant Week Criticism

When my Dad came to visit, it happened to be during Restaurant Week, so I made reservations for a steak dinner at a place we wouldn't normally be able to afford.
Before we paid the check, he asked our server how much the bill for our meal would be regularly. Thinking he was curious about how much we had saved, I was kind of embarrassed by the question.
When I chided him, he said he asked so that he could tip based on the regular price -- it's not fair for the server to make less just because he is serving different food.
I thought that was pretty classy, and it just makes sense. Thanks for the lesson, Dad.
