Lucky Noodle - Hunan on Kingsway
This sounds great; on my list for sure. I was intrigued by this "a new Spicy Chinese Corridor along Kingsway – dotted with spicy hotpot joints, and a variety of spicy Chinese restaurants all the way into Burnaby." Any particular recommendations besides Lucky Noodle in that corridor?
Cheers

Visiting for one Friday night from Toronto and San Fran - suggestions
Two suggestions http://www.theoakwood.ca/ and http://www.bishopsonline.com/ Both specialize in fresh local foods; Bishop's is pretty pricey Oakwood is not. Both have adequate BC wine choices.
New Singapore/Malay resto in Safeway plaza (King Edward/Oak) ?
Is this the one you mean? http://www.yelp.ca/biz/city-1-cafe-vancouver Had some curry beef there that was OK but not outstanding; others seem to like it more than me but I only had the one dish.

Le Crocodile is my personal favourite.
Ghana food
I believe A Taste of Africa out in Surrey might fit the bill but I have not tried it.
Good fish & chips downtown - does it exist? (Damn you Fresh, Local Wild!)
You could jump on the False Creek ferry and go to Go Fish right near Granville Is. Decent F&C and a sea voyage all in on trip. http://www.granvilleislandferries.bc.ca/find_us.htm
Superlative pizza by the slice pizzerias ?
Za Pizza is pretty good http://www.thezahouse.com/ NIce flavours and good value
Halal Turkey Location - Vancouver or Surrounding Cities?
Don't know for sure but here is a list of Halal butchers; try giving a few of them a call:

Le Crocodile vs. Bishop's?
In my experience, you will get fine warm service at either, particularly if you mention that it is a special celebration for your mom.Noise is not as issue at either. I would choose based on what sort of dishes your mom prefers. Have a good look at their menus on line and discuss your mom's preferences with both. You should get a pretty good idea from that as to which will please your mom more.
Swiss Bakery
Sorry to go OT but has anyone tried the scones at Save on Meats - not bad @ $1.75 for two
Mince Pies?
I believe www.tartine.ca wil have them closer to Christmas and Butter Bakery on Dunbar makes mince tarts but not pies.
Cheapest bulk food stores?
I am not sure about prices but Galloway's, Famous Foods and Weight to Go all have good selections. Maybe phone them for prices with a sample of 3-4 of your main ingrediants.
Online kitchen retailer for Canadians
THere are I think two places in Point Roberts that do it. One is TSB Shipping; you look up their web site and register with them before you order goods from the US.
Online kitchen retailer for Canadians
This search yields a few
http://www.google.ca/search?q=litchen+nich+canada&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB%3Aofficial&source=hp&q=kitchenware+canada&pbx=1&oq=kitchen+canada&aq=1&aqi=g4&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=0l0l1l1725l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=9a27304bc29bb6bc&biw=1824&bih=836
However most are probably not price competitive. I tend to have my american goods shipped to a parcel receiver at Point Roberts. Short drive plus gas/milk\eggs\cheese are cheaper and it only costs $3 per small parcel for the depot fee. Going through customs is usually pretty easy there as well. YMMV
Take-away or Delivery Options in Kitsilano/Downtown - looking for new ideas
Les amis du fromage have a lot of frozen entrees and soups that can be heated up in less than an hour http://www.buycheese.com/ Indishpensable might be worth checking out http://www.indish.ca/ Atithi is a possibility for Indian food http://atithi.ca/Home.html
Best Vancouver restaurants!
I have soft spots for both Bishop's and Le Crocodile as long time Vancouver stalwarts that still deliver top level food and delightful dining experiences. They may not be the best two restuarants in Vancouver but they are certainly in the top echelon.

Decent pizza in Vancouver
Have to agree that Za Pizza is producing a good product. We got a chicken slice and a capicolla slice. Both were very tasty and I like their crust - thin with some bite. The slice is a quarter of a small pizza - around 12-13"; that is the only size they make and it costs $3 for a slice - $13 for a whole multi ingredient pizza and prices include tax. They cut the slice into two pieces which allows sharing if there are two of you - the right size for a satisfying snack. Staff were friendly. http://www.thezahouse.com/ has their menu.
Recommendations for Thanksgiving lunch?
I believe Cafe Pacifica has a Thanksgiving brunch on sunday and a dinner on monday. http://www.panpacific.com/en/Vancouver/Dining/CafePacifica.html The food is generally quite good there and the view is great.
Chef Claire's in Vancouver???
I have had some of those dishes - beef strognaoff and mac and cheese I think. They were OK but I remember thinking that the price was a bit high for the value received. I remember they made a great tortiere but I think that was seasonal. If you are looking for frozen dishes I think the quality at Les Amis du Fromage is higher - probably a bit more expensive though.
Indian spice hunt: looking for TRS brand Garam Masala
Sometime ago I was told by email that they had no distributor in Canada but that their spices could be purchased through Amazon.co.uk. I never followed up to check on that possibility for North America purchasers.
Urgent! Need recs for restaurant near Convention Centre in Vancouver
Cafe Pacifica http://www.panpacific.com/en/Vancouver/Dining/CafePacifica.html right in the Pan Pacific might work - mains in the $20-$30 range and great views.
Where do you get your meat?
Marpole Quality Meats 9247 Shaughnessy St, Vancouver 604-261-4642 makes boerewoors and bitong.
Ayoub's Nuts
Saw a new storefront on Denman for this store - not sure when it opens but N Van folks seem to like it.
Where do you get your meat?
Building on the Italian theme, Columbus Meats on Renfrew is good. Also Windsor Meats on Mackenzie is not Italian (really?) but has some good meat choices http://www.windsormeats.com/ Better quality than TnT probably but also I would quess more expensive. Donalds Markets also has some inexpensive meat.
Seattle Chowhounds in Vancouver--where should we go next? (Also, recommendations for Victoria)
You might like pattersie le beau http://www.grababetterwaffle.com/retail_store/menu.html for great belgian waffles, lemon tarts, sandwiches and quiche - open for lunch and breakfast. Hawksworth is a new restaurant producing quality food at decent but not cheap prices. http://www.hawksworthrestaurant.com/
Le Crocodike and Bishops are Vancouver standards http://lecrocodilerestaurant.com/ http://www.bishopsonline.com/
Ensemble is new and gets some good and not so good reviews http://www.ensemblerestaurant.com/
What are some classic Canadian dishes??
I have made a tasty vegetarian split pea soup but I am not sure you would serve it for dinner maybe as a first course Bannock bread, nanaimo bars and butter tarts are decent suggestions. I don't know about the main other than to look up your google machine for some vegetarian recipies by Canadian chefs. Here is one collection http://www.foodnetwork.ca/recipes/vegetarian/Dinner.html?q=&p=4&partialfields=Diet:Vegetarian.Meal:Dinner
3 dinners in Vancouver
I would think Hawksworth's, Bishop's, Le Crocodile and Ensemble could all provide very good meat or fish choices. Dial up your google machine and see what you think of their menus.
Good luck
Phil
