Fresh bay leaves
I just got back from IGA on de Salaberry and there were loads of fresh bay leaves. Near the prepackaged fresh herbs.
Ginger cookies
I believe I've had quite delicious ginger cookies at Cocoa Locale on Parc. Big,soft spicy chewy. Everything you'd want in a ginger cookie!
Where can I find a restaurant that cooks rare burgers?
I've had rare burgers at Lawrence. Actually its the way they prefer to serve them but will accommodate any request. They grind the beef in house and the burgers are exceptional!
High Tea
I need some recs for High Tea service in Montreal. This is for a group of women in their mid 20s who are celebrating a birthday. Something quirky, sophisticated, elegant, posh. I am aware of The Birks tea and Ogilivys but are there any other interesting places? Thanks to all!
fresh Greek yogurt in Montreal
I often buy the bulk plain yogurt at Mourelatos deli counter. I pair it up with some Greek honey, usually Attiki brand. They also sell various preserves from Greece as well, like cherry, apricot, etc. Ou la la! Now that is a treat i thought I could only get in Greece! I find labneh a little too tart and a little too thick for what I want to use it for, such as homemade tzadiki.
Kitchenaid stand mixer repair in Montreal?
My mixer also needed a new gear and I took it to Centre du Rasoir in Fairview where they did the repair in house. I'm not certain if they still do in house repairs but its worth a try 514-697-6343. I also called Kithchenaid and expressed my disappointment in their product as my mixer was less than 2 years old.
fresh pizza dough
I have ventured quite often to Marguerita Pizza, 6505 Clark, 276-6126. They sell pizza bread, foccacias, many Italian breads and rolls as well as fresh dough and IMHO, the best homemade pizza sauce. Well worth the trip!
Galo
I wouldn't say it was favorable to Portugalia or Barcelos,. It is not nearly as smoky or spicy in flavor as most Portuguese grillades. But I have been there several times and enjoy it very much for what it is. The portions are large, the food is fresh and the there are some really nice touches as well. The bolinhos de bacalhau are made by the owners mother, all drinks, including wines are imported from Portugal. The decor is delightful. I really feel like it is a wonderful little neighbourhood restaurant you can depend on. Selfishly, I'm kind of glad nobody talked about it till now!
Petit Fours in Montreal?
The best ones IMO, were from La Patisserie Gascogne. They were called "petits glacés". They still make them but now only have them for sale frozen. They come by the dozen, I believe $18 for the box. They also have a small plate of miniature pastries called "petites mignardises". They are where the regular pastries are. Hope that helps!
ISO smoked turkey leg
I see them all the time at Costco. I don't know if there is a Costco near you, I hope this helps!
japanese food market
And the other side of it is a Banzai.... Japanese version of Dollarama. The most interesting and fun things to have and behold!
Opening Tomorrow "Lawrence", 5201 Blvd St Laurent
Don't worry about the menu. Just go! Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Keurig vs Tassimo?
No sugar. Just coffee in the coffee pod and UHT milk and cream in the milk pod. The Chai Latte has sugar. Way too much
Keurig vs Tassimo?
I happen to own both. Tassimo wins in my opinion because of the Starbucks connection. They have many varieties of Starbucks coffee including Cappuccino. The pods are available just about everywhere and you can order them online as well. I like coffee house style coffee - rich strong and brewed to perfection. That is Tassimo. Keurig has over 200 different pods also available everywhere but all too weak for my taste. They don't have, to my knowledge, a cappuccino style coffee where the milk and coffee are brewed separately. Tassimo uses a pressurized water technology to brew the coffee. A different one for each variety. Keurig uses hot water poured through the pod. The plus for Keurig is on one model there is a temperature control so you could change the temperature for whoever is brewing and on all models you can select either regular or large size. I hope that was helpful!
Proper cupcake boxes
Thanks everyone for all your ideas! I was able to find cardboard cake boxes with disposable plastic inserts that hold each cupcake securely at France Decor. They are really low on these due to the upcoming cupcake camp but I was able to get enough of them.
Proper cupcake boxes
ISO proper cupcake boxes that will hold 12 or ideally 24 cupcakes with individual separators. I have only found boxes that could hold 6. Thanks!
Finding Monkey bread in Montreal??
Try www.marthastewart.com She has a few recipes for monkey bread you can make quite easily.
Ville St-Laurent
Let's not forget Elounda on Marcel Laurin and Cote Vertu. It is a lovely Greek restaurant perfect for a sit down more elegant dinner. As well, Terra Cotta on Marcel Laurin and St. Louis. It has fine Italian cuisine and a very nice atmosphere. Both are comparable in price, setting and food quality.

ISO caramel beurre salé
I am making macarons and am searching for a good quality caramel with salt spread. Any suggestions?
Where to purchase fresh sauerkraut
Yes!! It has pieces of smoked bacon in it and juniper berries! oh it is good!
Good Italian, not too expensive, near Jean-Talon market
I have not been disappointed in the past year! The gnocchi stuffed with wild mushrooms and the lobster ravioli... exquisite! They always have a market menu and a great little wine list.
Good Italian, not too expensive, near Jean-Talon market
There is also Via Dante (on Dante, naturally) an unassuming trattoria with daily specials based on market availability. Or Tre Marie (Clark near Mozart), a family owned restaurant. Neither one is "cheap" but certainly not $35 for main dishes.
Does anyone make Quail and/or Guinea Hen???
I recently had outstanding roast guinea hen at Kitchen Galerie. Every aspect of the restaurant itself was a wonderful experience! The only thing is you'd have to call in advance to see what their menu is as it changes daily depending on the "market" availability.

Who makes the best sandwiches in town?
I also have had the Sparrow's pulled pork and slaw -delicious!!! I have visited le pickup and was disappointed in their less than stellar sandwiches (pulled pork and grilled halloumi). I honestly don't see what the hype is. And personally, I was uncomfortable with their lack of attention to simple cleanliness which is NEVER an issue at Sparrow. Taste wise, Sparrow beats them hands down!
Gift Certificates?
Hi Christina! Most high end restarants such as APDC or Milos have gift certificates to be mailed out in any amount. It depends on doing research of the restos that you're interested in and then asking. Even McDonald's and Tim Horton's have gift certificates! Good luck! :)
Soft Pretzels?
Atlantique is a German deli/depanneur. They make their own pretzels and IMHO are much better than Ptit Munich. Often times they are still warm when I buy them.
Non-Fat Greek Yogurt?
I found this yogurt originally at the IGA on de Salaberry as well as just recently, the Mourelatos in St.Laurent. It isn't cheap about $5 for 500 ml. I paired it up with Attiki honey from Greece.....ou la la. I find the expiration dates to be quite soon. I don't know if that's because of the type of yogurt it is or just because they don't sell as many of them as other yogurt varieties. But no matter, they don't last very long ;)
