I'm looking to buy a wedding gift for a couple who lives on Long Island (in Massapequa, specifically) and was thinking a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in the area might fit the bill. Anyone have any recommendations for restaurants on Long Island (within an hour of Massapequa would work, I think) that would make for a special night out?

I'm looking to get a friend a gift certificate to a restaurant in Charlottesville, Va., as part of her wedding present. I've never been (she's attending law school there) and would love some suggestions! Her and her fiance are pretty laid back, casual people, so I don't think they'd want anything too pretentious or fancy, but good food is a must, and it still should be special enough for a date night. I'm having a bit of trouble finding the perfect place to host my birthday dinner in DC this year. I'm looking for somewhere fun, good for a group of 10 20-somethings and not terribly expensive (small plates would probably be a plus so that we could share.) Last year we went to Oyamel and had a blast and this year I really wanted to do Granville Moore's but they don't take reservations and said we'd probably have to wait a while for a table, even though the dinner is set for a Wednesday. Other options I've come up with so far include: Founding Farmers, Dino and Ulah Bistro, although none of those seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
