Best bets around Abbott Labs (Libertyville/North Chicago)
A new and super choice for BBQ has come to North Chicago. Big Ed's BBQ on MLK Drive has delicious pit barbecue slowly roasted over real hickory with their own homemade sauce as a tangy option. You can get ribs, rib tips, pulled pork, brisket, hot links, chicken wings, catfish and burgers, dogs and polish too. Sides are great as well and include homemade potato salad, cole slaw, mac and cheese, collareed greens and baked beans. Save room for the homemade chocolate bump cake or fluffy pound cake. Big Ed's BBQ is open 7 days a week (Mon - Sat 11am until 8pm and Sun 12pm until 6pm).

I've heard somewhere that Sneaky Pete's and the neighboring bar will fall victims to a demolition crew's wrecking ball very soon. I sure hope Pete relocates. I had been his customer for many years in his family's Grecian Taverna and Psistaria Restaurants in Chicago's Lincoln Square and Lincolnwood respectively. I aso visited his original location on State Street in Madison, WI circa 1989 or 1990.

I'm not going to argue with you abf005 because I know that many places may be outstanding and even more places will be disappointing. It's just the nature of the food business. Personally, my always eating out criteria for being a returning diner to Droopy's includes the total menu, the aesthetics of the place, the friendliness of the staff and the quality/value of the various products. I like the idea that it's a one-stop spot for a variety of freshly prepared tastey brand name products.
I hope you'll try Droopy's again without rating, ranking or relating it to anything. Just go to eat and listen to the local people. You'll hear their joy in finally having a place in town that's been badly needed. These aren't hot dog mavens, but real blue and white collar people who spend their hard earned money to fill their stomachs rather than fill their gas tanks to travel halfway across the county for a quick bite to eat. I heard one guy nearly squeal with joy that he was feeding his family for less than $20. That's what's great about Droopy's.

Droopy's is just plain outstanding. Their expanded menu now includes hot dogs, polish sausages, handmade char broiled burgers, Italian beefs/sausages, Gyros, juicey chicken breast sandwiches and others. All are made to order, hot and fresh, the way they're meant to be served. The real treat here are Droopy's fresh cut homemade french fries made in the tradition of Chicago's best hot dog stands. Droopy's offers indoor dining and carry outs 7 days a week on the corner of Sheridan Road (Route 137) and 13th Street,. in Winthrop Harbor. I drive down from southeast Wisconsin to enjoy the great Vienna products and truly caring staff at Droopy's. One last thought, while your order is being made fresh for you, check out the more than 2 dozend blown up sports photos on the wall and the oldtime Pepsi signs on the counter.
