Cooked White Rice.....how long does it keep?

I have a container of white rice from a take-out place that's a week old. Would you still use it? Was getting ready to throw it out for trash day tomorrow and then I thought some fried rice using the leftover veggies in the fridge with an egg mixed in would be good....just not sure about the rice. It's still in the cardboard container, so it hasn't been sealed tight.

What say you......eat or pitch?

Shoreline Seafood in Crofton

I stopped by Friday and they only had frozen. Couldn't get anyone to tell me if they'd be getting live ones. Then on Sunday a friend was in there buying crabs and he said they had them live. Maybe next weekend.

Frederick beer

I love some of the Flying Dog beers. And their art work is great. I I have family in Frederick and have yet to take their tour. Putting that on my list of things to do this summer.

Someone must be eating there...

My Grandmother who passed away last summer at 90 used to love Calvert House. As well as Sir Walter Raleigh in Greenbelt. Got a chuckle out of someone saying Mrs K's Toll House. I remember my brother taking his Senior Prom date there in 1980. He was going big time!

Anyone know if the Golden Bull is still there? Same general area. That place was tacky back in the early 80's, but people loved it.

They had some crawfish yesterday. He wanted me to come over and buy them, but I was calling about this weekend, and he said he's not sure, as the supply has been limited this year in La. Guess it's been weather issues down there, flooding etc. Hopefully they will get some. I've never done them myself and wanted to do a test run this weekend while the family was gone.

Calvert House Inn in College Park/Riverdale comes to mind. I was recently over that way and was surprised it was still there.

Blue Tilefish

Was recently given a nice big Blue Tilefish filet and have never heard of this fish. It looks like a Rockfish filet and I am thinking I should treat it the same way. Any suggestions from someone who has had this fish? It's skinless, and was freeze packed.

Shoreline Seafood in Crofton

It's been a few years, but used to go there quite a bit. Never had any problems, although I did once get mussels from them and wasn't happy with how many were dead...but that has happened at other places as well. I've gotten crabs, boxes of frozen king crab legs, squid, rockfish and have always been pretty happy. I haven't been to the new Wegmans yet, but I wonder how much of an impact they will have on Shoreline. I do know that Shoreline will have live Crawfish, and am planning on picking some up this year.

In Search of Fried Chicken

I love Royal Farms chicken. I know its fast food chicken, but its good. Much better than any of the other fast food chicken. A 3 piece and a side of wedge fries, right out of the pressure cooker.....that's good stuff. When my daughter was younger she thought it was weird we were buying our dinner at a gas station....but she loved it.

BTW...the is one in Crofton now.

My Butcher and More-Annapolis

Lack of business. It really is a shame too. People don't support local businesses and would rather run in Whole Foods. you won't get the kind of service they gave at My Butcher & More. He's still on his facebook.

BBQ--looking for the best

There is a good recipe on Chow for white BBQ sauce. In my house it gets mixed reviews, but I like it....Like Crunch said, on well seasoned BBQ chicken

Foods not to miss in D.C. area.

Steve has it right. You will be in Arlington already, the Quarterdeck is the place to go. And the crabs are starting to come in nice and heavy here in the bay. (although I'm not sure where the Quaterdeck gets their crabs) It amazes me how many people don't really think about crabs after Labor Day, when Sept & October are the best times for crabs.....This is the time of year we eat crabs at least once a week....

Frozen gyro meat?

I will check with the wife again, but she said that's where she gets it. We have some in the freezer now, but had taken it out of the box to save room, so I'm not sure what brand it is. I know it said Halal Gyro meat on the box

Jalapeños Restaurant in Annapolis ... recent reports?

Jalapenos vs Sin Froneras Cafe? Any opinions? We are going to be in Annapolis this weekend, and I'd like to hit one of the two. Have been to neither before.

ISO: barbeque (BBQ) shrimp

Ditto. You must have lots of butter, the garlic and lemons and Worcestershire. The bread is mandatory too. Never thought about adding hot sauce. Think Sriracha might be nice....thanks for the tip. Sometimes I add Old Bay, although not everyone in my house likes it like that.

We make BBQ shrimp using Mr B's Bistro recipe. So easy and so good. Have never seen this in any restaurants up here.

Where to take my big brother to dinner?

I know this is late, but I am surprised no one mentioned the Maine Avenue Seafood Market. Right down the hill from L'enfant Plaza, and definately not an experience one would find in Kentucky. A true taste of DC.

Looking for baked chicken wings in Bmore

if ever inclined to make them yourself, Alton Brown has an awesome baked wing recipe. A little time consuming, but great. We don't fry wings at home anymore, just baked and tossed with traditional buffalo sauce, or dusted with lemon pepper or old bay.

I have had some decent baked wings at Coal Fire Pizza. There is one in Ellicot City but I was at the one in Frederick.

Rusty's Ribs n BBQ in Anne Arundel County

It’s on Rt 3 in Gambrills/Crofton. Right past Honda Powersport in the DMV Express parking lot in the median. It’s just a guy with a pull behind trailer. My wife stopped by and said Rusty was really friendly and excited to have new customers. She picked up the sampler, ¼ rack of ribs, smoked brisket & pulled pork with two sides of baked beans and pasta salad and she got a ½ chicken. Came to about 30 bucks. The ribs or should I say rib because the was all I got, was pretty damn good. The pulled pork was really good but the surprising thing was the brisket. It looked dry to me, but was actually pretty awesome. So good that I ate what was supposed to be saved for my daughters boyfriend. She wasn’t happy with me, but I couldn’t stop. The chicken was great as well. Funny thing is, I asked them all what was their favorite and they all said the baked beans. Go figure. Mine was definitely the brisket, although I think the ribs were a close second, just need to try more of them this weekend. I’m not sure of his hours, but I do know that when he sells out he’s done for the day. This is the best BBQ I have had in a long time. Sure beats KBQ, Adams, Red Hot n Blue and the others in the area. Although I haven’t tried Mission in Glen Burnie yet.

Disclaimer….If you are one of those who says this area doesn’t know…..BBQ, Pizza, Wings, etc…I would just pass this place up…you won’t be happy, you never are. The DC/Balt area food in those areas will never meet your expectations. Rather than enjoy it for what it is, pretty damn good BBQ you will pine on about how it’s not like KC, the Carolinas, TX or wherever. I almost wasn’t going to mention this place because I didn’t want to hear that it’s not this or that, but I do know a few of you on here will appreciate it. Rant over…….Everyone have a great weekend, and a safe 4th. Stay cool if possible.

Baltimore Food Truck Rally

Is anyone going to the Food Truck rally at the SPCA? Today is the first I've heard of it.
Both of my dogs are rescued dogs, and I kinda like food trucks.....short notice so I can't make it, but I thought I'd try and put the word out.

Best Annapolis area weekend lunch picks?

I will second Punks Backyard Grill. My wife and daughter were at the mall today and said they were just going to grab something from the food court for dinner...I suggested Punks after seeing ktmmmau's post...they loved it. Not much more expensive than the mall court crap, but so much better. They brought me home a flat iron steak sandwich, and even cold was pretty awesome. Wifey said they had a pretty awesome beer selection too,so thats a bonus. On the down side, the sides were pretty bland. Mac and cheese and the macaroni salad were a waste of money....just bland...

Anne Arundel Pit Beef Tour

Glad you liked their pit beef....and they are really nice people. Even when you get the teenage kids working there they are always nice. I agree that most of the other stuff is just ok, although my daughter loves their wings. I would suggest next time getting a half smoke along with your pit beef. They do a pretty good half smoke....green peppers and onions....

Tatu Restaurant - Living Social

I just saw on Living Social that Tatu restaurant in Baltimore had a Sushi making and Sake tasting event. Of course I always read these things when its to late, was wondering if anyone here might have gone. Sounds like it would have been fun, my sushi making is limited to California rolls.

on a side note, is Tatu any good? Have never been.

Need Current Info re: Best Crabcake

Not gonna give a rec on the best crabcake in this region as they are out of season, although most crab places I know do suplement their crab supply from LA throughout our season when they need to anyways....most people don't even know the difference. For the last few years all my crabs have come out of my brothers traps in the bay, so I've been lucky to have nothing but Bay crabs... That being said....I have to agree with Crackers.....there is always melted butter, vinegar (apple cidar in our case), and extra Old Bay or JO seasoning in cups on the table when picking crabs. It's been that way for as long as I can remember......even in crab houses they usually offer at least melted butter. My wife eats hers plain....my daughter is a double dipper, butter then vinegar....I like both ways......to each their own
