Best canned, packaged or frozen soup
Real Bagel has very good refrigerated soups that you can freeze, interesting flavours. Snowdon Deli has the best bean and barley and split pea soup, also in freezable containers. Fressers sells frozen versions of many soups they make on premises. Finally, Adar (kosher store on Westminster) sells delicious lentil and minestrone soups. Also wonderful croissant and pastry.
Korean - 2012 update?
Thanks for the highlights - think I will check out Kagopa and Hwang Kum
Korean - 2012 update?
I'm looking for good Korean food - exploring previous threads on this site are old so I wanted to revisit recommendations. Can anyone recommend good restaurants, ideally where I can get bibimbap (my fave) but also good kimchi and possibly BBQ dishes?
Mexican Dried Chiles
Thanks all - went to Maya and found chiles and fresh tortillas.
Mexican Dried Chiles
Does anyone know where I can find dried chiles for Mexican food? Also, would love to source a place for fresh tortillas...
Thanks
Sunday Delivery Blues
Greek place on Queen Mary is called Yia Sou and it's great - have both eaten there and picked up and I would recommend everything (as OliverB said all pitas, greek salads, fried calimari). They also have Taverna chicken which is a whole chicken grilled and cut up - delicious. Like Nostos but closer to (my) home - or Agora on Somerled but better. Also very very friendly.
keurig k cups
Thanks so much SKYMTL - got my Keurig a few months ago and would love the opportunity to find some new k-cups to try, will be heading to Sasso ASAP.
Stacy's Pita Chips?
Not downtown, but the IGA on Cavendish carries them in different flavours. Think the Loblaw's on St-Jacques and Cavendish may also have. I think the best deal is Costco, but limited flavours.
Stowe area dining - need recommendations
I'm going to be in Stowe over Thanksgiving weekend for an annual girl's trip, and we need some recommendations for dining Friday and Saturday nights, as well as Sunday brunch. Really wanted to try Hen of the Woods but they are closed for renovations! We would love one casual place (with great food) and one more upscale spot. Heard that Harrison's was a good choice, but can't find much on this board. Thanks for your help!

Where to go with picky eaters who don't know that they are - Montreal
Your post made my day - sounds like my family! Anyway I think Lemeac is a great choice. You could also try La Sirene, they have a private party area (nobody can hear the kvetching) and they have all kinds of fish and not overly spiced. Good luck and mazel-tov on your milestone.
Turkey time
Made my first turkey EVER yesterday - bought my organic turkey from St-Vincent in JTM and it was excellent!!! Expensive (about $16/kilo) but moist and delicious.
Favorite meals to eat at the jean talon and atwater markets?
Right at Atwater market, in the new outdoor eating section, is Satay Brothers where you can get delicious Laksa soup and green papaya salad, along with their daily satay and buns. There are some picnic tables you can eat at. Then grab an ice cream at Glaces des Havres (think that's the name) at the other end of the market near the bridge - so good.

Jarred pasta sauces?
Was at Loblaw's a few weeks ago and there was a woman offering testers of a new (new to me anyway) jarred pasta sauce, made locally, and their meat/sausage flavour was actually delicious. Didn't need anything added to it, it was really tasty on it's own and it was very meaty. Bought a jar and served it with rigatoni and the whole family loved it. The name escapes me but it's the only jarred pasta sauce in the refrigerated section next to where they sell hotdogs, etc. Hope that helps!
Dinner with Mother-in-law - suggestions?
Need some suggestions for dinner for 3 for this Saturday night - my mother-in-law is fairly adventurous and likes trying new restaurants. Somewhere where parking is not an issue (no lot necessary, but can't walk for blocks so downtown out of the question). Reasonable prices ($25 - $30 pp before tax/tip) and relaxed but fun atmosphere (!) Thought I nailed it with Alep, but they are closed for holidays until August 9th.
Health Food Stores
There is a very good one on Sherbrooke west of Claremont - it's downstairs and looks tiny from the outside but they carry a good selection of foods and are very helpful. Also if you don't find what you are looking for, you can always mention it to an employee and they will try and get it for you.
What is the best Hot Dog brand in Montreal?
Agree totally, Hebrew National are the best. Costco used to sell Sinai brand which were amazing, can't find them anywhere. New brand that they carry, Shopsy's, are just ok. Wal Mart in Plattsburgh sells large pack of Hebrew National (16 hot dogs?) for under $10 where if you buy them in Montreal they are $10 for 8 dogs.
Help - resto to watch hockey on Saturday night that's NOT Cage aux Sports
Excellent recommendations, thanks EaterBob
Help - resto to watch hockey on Saturday night that's NOT Cage aux Sports
Thanks, I just heard Macaroni Bar is now closed and renamed something else...
Chomedey/Laval Reccomendations
The Grill on Queen Mary (west of Decarie) has the best Israeli felafel that I have come across...perfect small crispy felafel balls and great toppings. Kosher place, so closed Friday nights and Saturdays.
Help - resto to watch hockey on Saturday night that's NOT Cage aux Sports
Thanks Lola, that's a great suggestion. Do you know if they take reservations?
Help - resto to watch hockey on Saturday night that's NOT Cage aux Sports
6 of us are going out Saturday night, and of course the guys want to watch the game. Can anybody please recommend a restaurant that will show the game plus has good food where those of us who want to have a conversation won't be drowned out? Checked boards and found Les Brasseurs, but the last posts are quite old so I was wondering if anyone has been there recently. Tentatively booked at Mbrgr, which I know will be super noisy. Also would like to avoid downtown core if possible.
Montreal's third-best bagel?
REAL bagel on Queen Mary or the one on Cote St Luc road (corner Grand) are both great and comparable to St-Viateur's. There is a great bagel bakery (sorry don't know the name!) on the corner of Lucerne and Jean-Talon - think it's kosher, the bagels are really good.
First, Congratulations and salutations, then let's discuss Moishe's
I love Moishe's and have been going there since I was a kid...don't go there more than a few times a year at those prices but I always enjoy my meal. It could partly be nostalgia - but I also enjoy the unpretentious atmosphere, excellent service, world's best pickles and coleslaw, Monte Carlo baked stuffed potatoes, and it's also the only place I know where you can find charbroiled sweetbreads - don't knock it till you've tried it! So yes, it may not compare with some of the very high-end American steak houses but for this city it's my favorite. Not a fan of Gibby's and I have no patience for Queue de Cheval - at least at Moishe's when you pay $50 for the steak you get a potato/fries and the aforementioned pickles and coleslaw included! One last thing - the one time we went where my husband didn't enjoy his steak, he told the waiter and they took it back and brought him an amazing one in it's place. With a smile and an apology.
Where to buy a broiler pan?
Exactly!!! Thanks southwestmtl...I guess online is the way to go.
Where can I find cassava to make a filipino dessert?
If you don't mind venturing a bit, Victoria near Van Horne has many ethnic grocers that cater to the large number of local Filipino residents - I bet you could find anything you need in that area. By Metro, it's the Plamondon exit (Van Horne). Good luck!
Where to buy a broiler pan?
Thanks - I will try that. Who would have thought this would be so difficult to locate...am I the only one who uses a broiler????
Where to buy a broiler pan?
Hope you can help me Chowhounds...I'm looking to replace the broiler pan that came with my oven and I can't seem to find one. I checked The Bay and Ares. Does anybody have any suggestions? To be clear, a broiler (or broiling) pan is the metal pan that is about 2 inches deep and comes with a removable cover that is perforated or slotted to allow fat to drip through when you broil meat, fish, etc. Thanks!
ISO: Bakeries that deliver cakes in Mtl.
"Delices de Dawn" is a local company that makes a range of cakes and I believe you can get them delivered. More Americanized than a patisserie, but delicious nonetheless. Their website is: http://www.dawnsdesserts.com/main.swf
Need recommendations for good lunch places in Dorval/Lachine area
Love Mexican, thanks porker! And they deliver, will definitely have to try.
