Paris Trip in March 2nd try Now with Research :-)

We'll be there for 9 days. I have removed L'Astrance and Le Cing from my list. Both are very pricy and did not appeal to me as much as the other stars.

Great place to start!! Still doing research as well. We'll be there for about 10 days. Also doing some side trips out o Versailles (probably), Fonainebleau, Malmaison, and Chartres. Of the Big Stars, which would be the one not to miss? I prefer smaller bistro and cafe type places but want to hit at least one stellar place. I see Le Cing and Taillevent mentioned the most,. I'll cross Chez Toinette off my list. Thanks!!!

Paris Trip in March 2nd try Now with Research :-)

Hi all!
I have been doing lots of research on places for our upcoming trip. I have posted twice without specifics, so sorry. I should have been more specific in my requests. I am looking for mainly places that locals go. Below is my short list of places that I want to know more about. Are they really good? Lunch or Dinner? Also we'll be staying in the 8th on Rue de Constantinople. Any really good places close to there for a Parisian style breakfast.
Thanks!

Huiterie Regis
Chez Toinette
Chez Marie Louise
L'Ange 20
Taillevent
Le Cinq
Le Relais de l'isle
Paul Chene
Les Papilles
L'Astrance
Restaurant Mariette
L'Atelier du Parc
Saturne
Chez l'Ami Louis

Also an older friend is keeps steering me towards La Tour d'Argent and the Hotel Crillon. These seems somewhat antiquated to me. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Paris Anniversary Trip

Hi all! My husband and I are going to Paris for our 15th anniversary. We are looking for great local places to eat and shop (bakeries, etc for picnic items). We don't mind traveling anywhere in Paris or just outside. We are staying on the rue de Constantinople in the 8th arrondisement. I'm a caterer and love new experiences. Also looking for one really great romantic, special occasion place, that is not very touristy or going to break the bank (so no Tour d'Argent). Thanks!!!

Lunch & Dinner in Charleston, SC

Lots of great places. Check out the recs on Charleston Magazines website. I love Hominy Grill, Slightly North of Broad, FIG, Cru Cafe to name a few. None are stuffy. Amen Street Bar and Grill has great seafood.

Charleston: Magnolias, Blossom or Cypress???

I've been to all 3 several times. A friend was once the pastry chef at Cypress. My personal favorite is Magnolias. The pimento cheese is amazing. Shellfish over grits is too. Never had a bad meal. Blossom is more casual. Good pizzas and lighter fare. I personally think Cypress is over-rated. Too expensive and the food wasn't as good as Magnolias or Blossom.

Clemson 2010

I live in nearby Anderson. Have lots of friends in Clemson and spend a lot of time there. Really quickly:
Super Taco is fantastic!! Make their own tortillas and salsas daily. My whole family loves it!
Friends Cafe is good solid Middle Eastern fare. Really enjoyed it the times I have been. Unique experience at night with the hookahs. :-)
Blue Heron is a solid upscale place. No bad meals yet! Wednesdays are what we refer to as Wino Wednesdays. $10 bottles.
Brioso Fresh Pasta is amazing!!! So happy they are expanding to Anderson. All pastas made fresh.
Groucho's is good. Love their Special sauce. Haven't been to the one in Clemson. I have been to ones in the Columbia area.
Mellow Mushroom is yummy pizza, good atmosphere, pretzels are amazing.
ESSO Club is a Clemson must. Solid food.
Tucker's is off and on. I have had excellent meals and awful ones. J Peter's Bar and Grill is a better bet. Excellent salads!!!

Jestine's Kitchen vs Homney Grill in Charleston, SC

I would definitely say Hominy!! Love it! Jestine's is good, but IMO it doesn't compare.

Barbecue between Greenville SC and Asheville NC

The Hunt Camp near Travelers Rest is amazing!

where can I buy good stone ground grits?

I buy mine from Mast General Store, stone ground, can't remember the brand right now. Carolina Plantation are okay, not the best. In Anderson County, we have Timms Mill (run by a friend of mine) and theirs are amazing. That's what I use most of the time. Anson Mills is also very good. Do check the Farmer's Markets and gourmet stores. The big chain grocery stores almost never carry real stone ground grits.

New Foodie to the area need help: Westminster, SC near Clemson

It takes me about 30 minutes or so to get to G&G. The directions are on their site. www.gritsandgroceries.com We usually go for Saturday brunch. ECity is really good. Downtown, hmm, Matty's is good, esp for burgers. Thai Spice is great for Thai. Very authentic. A friend who had lived in Thailand loved their food. McGee's is a great Irish pub. I do so love the cheese balls from Split Creek. I serve them at all my parties. The raspberry one is also amazing as is the goat fudge. Also try CocoBon chocolates, you can buy them at a kiosk in the mall. ABSOLUTELY amazing! Electric City Coffee by Bloom on 81 is good as well. Haven't tried it yet but have heard good things about Food Junkie in the mall.

Good eats in Greenville, SC?

Barley's Downtown has the best pizza. Lieu's Chinese Bistro is amazing! Sassafras also downtown is very good as well

I've heard recently that the ice cream is not made in house at CU anymore. The blue cheese is awesome. Split Creek Farms is amazing. Best goat cheese ever. Try the olive oil sundried tomato basil feta. Mac's Diner in Clemson is a must. Also the Blue Heron in Clemson is awesome. Wednesdays they have $10 bottles of wine. Super Taco in Clemson is also good. The Cafe at Liberty Hall in in Pendleton is excellent, almost everything is completely from scratch. I live in Anderson and like Jax New Orleans Bistro here. Also good is Sullivans. Great Thai place in town called Thai Spice. Grits and Groceries is wonderful.
