Mexican in Seattle

We just tried La Carta de Oaxaca recently... and don't really need to ever go back. The food was just OK and over priced. Everyone raves about their mole, but we found it to be one dimensional and not particularly flavorful, while the pork under the mole was dry and not very tender.

I'm not saying you'll be able to find a better mole in Seattle, I'm just saying it didn't live up to the hype I keep hearing.

Meza Latin Fare

A little while ago, we tried this tiny Latin Amarican Tapas place on Capitol Hill based on a mention in Seattle Magazine:

We really enoyed the food - especially the spicy seared scallops and braised pork, the sangria was quite good, and the atmosphere was warm and cozy.

It is not at all fancy, but the price was quite good. Five of us ate very well and drank sangria for a little more than $100.

Best Seattle Sushi?

Heya Steve,

I'm hoping to talk Mr. Faber into coming up to Seattle in July. Perhaps a Kisaku trip would be in order.

Best Seattle Sushi?

I have not tried all of the "top 4" mentioned elsewhere, but I love Kisaku. Everything I've had has been excellent. My wife and I regularly make the drive from Bellevue to dine at Kisaku.

Japanese Skewers in Seattle

We tried Issian over the weekend and enjoyed it quite a bit. It didn't have the range of skewers that we saw in the LA restaurant, but the sashimi and other dishes provided a good variety. The only thing we really missed was the bacon-wrapped asparagus skewers.

Issian was a bit smoky, but not overwhelming.

Issian Stone Grill (SEA)

We ate at Issian on Friday night, and had a great meal. There were 7 of us and we shared a large number of small and medium plates include skewers, sashimi, and various grilled items. Standout dishes included yakiton (grilled pork belly skewers), a whole mackerel (also grilled, I believe), and some very good bluefin tuna sashimi.

The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

We ate very well, had a fair amount of beer and sake, and ended up paying about $30 per person including tax and tip.

I don't know if it's what you are looking for but I really enjoy Taqueria El Rinconsito

Japanese Skewers in Seattle

Last year, my wife and I visited LA and had a fantastic meal at a Japanese restaurant that specialized in a variety of small items skewered and grilled. I'm not sure the proper term for this kind of food, I've heard it called "Yakitori", "Kushiyaki", and "Robata."

In any case, we've been looking for a similar restaurant in Seattle or Bellevue, and haven't had much luck.

Any recommendations?
