Sad news for Edmonton culinary community

Sad news for culinary community
The owners of Le Gnome in West Edmonton Mall ( Entrance 44) will close their doors January 31, stating that "We were unable to come to any reasonable terms with our landlord."
Le Gnome is an exceptionally well-curated kitchen shop, considered one of the best in Canada.
A damn shame.

Has anyone seen The Tomato, the 2010 incarnation of Edmonton City Palate

Hi Bob,
Same number of pages, same type of coverage, just a name change. Essentially that's what it is. We're no longer paying a royalty to the Calgary pub of the same name. Ownership, designer, printer, writers etc have not changed. Thanks for the tip re empty stands. Sunterra and Zenaris have been refilled. Other downtown pick up spots are Sobey's on 104, Devines, Hardware Grill, Winspear, Italian Centre N, maryb

Wine Education Courses - Edmonton

Hi Dan
This is Mary. I'd like to correct some info that you posted online recently. My bonafides: I am an instructor with the Art Instute of Vancouver in the WSET program in Edmonton. I am a certified ISG (Intenational Sommlier Guild) sommelier having graduated from that program in 2007. I have two courses left for the WSET diploma having completed the foundation, intermediate and advanced levels. In addition I hold a certificate in Spanish wine education. Before that I was a wine merchant and importer. So as much as you may consider me a foodie, I have a long and varied history in wine. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to set the record straight.

Your next step is the advanced level. Or you can email me back.

Prairie Mill Bread Co. - Edmonton

hey DG Don't you read City Palate --Prairie Mill was in their stockpot Jan 1. Owen is awesome and the breads v good, one slice does you. I find Cobbs too sweet, and not like an artisan loaf at all. Re other breads: Treestone on 99st makes impeccable slow rise breads, we need more Treestones across the city as they seem to run out of bread at noon. also Baker Bill at the downtown market but I think he may be at Strathcona market now, for the winter.
