Thorrablot 2004, The Icelandic Association of Chicago

Sounds wonderful. I was stationed in Keflavik for 3.5 years and, as a journalist, appointed myself as a cultural ambassador. The Thorrablot festival was always a favorite. Your discussion of the ammonia-scented shark meat was dead on. As was the suggestion for Brennivin.

I live in Denver but pine for a lot of the Icelandic culture. I have imagined living there and am so sad to hear of their economic difficulties. I hope they do not abandon the social programs that make their country great. Youmay not know that they have socialized medicine and a guaranteed college education for all residents. The standard of living is very high there and the education is first-rate.
