Best pho in Houston?

Really like Pho One off of Westheimer. Nice light broth, good noodles, little light on the meat but that's OK.

That road is one letter away from being a complete disaster

Best sushi in Fort Worth

Curious, what is your favorite sushi restaurant in Toronto? I was there for business for over a month straight and ate at a lot of the good Japanese places.

Where can I find good pizza in Dallas?

I went to the new Mama's Pizza in Keller and it was EXACTLY as I remembered it from my childhood. Definitely one of the best pizzas in Dallas though don't ask me to qualify it...

Japanese curry in the DFW

Wow, I am so going to that. I am a HUGE Japanese curry fan and try to make katsu curry for myself at least 3 times a month, I am definitely checking that out based on your recommendation.

Where to buy Sushi grade fish in DFW?

You make a decent point but you're not entirely correct.

dashi in Houston?

They do - I just bought some there last week. They have about 4-5 different kinds and in different sizes.

Also, Nippon Daido was going to be my suggestion as well. Great little shop with lots of friendly employees and a great selection, go check it out!

Dallas: Buying Asian fish

Check out Kazy's off of 75. They are a major fish supplier for sushi restaurants in the area and have a large variety of fresh, sushi-grade fish.

Dallas - Thin Crust Pizza

If the Grimaldi's in Allen is anywhere near as good as the one in Houston, you'll have found yourself a winner. The ingredients they use are simply AMAZING - best toppings (cheese, pepperoni, etc.) I've had ANYWHERE.

Dallas Observer's 10 most overrated Dallas restaurants

I'll second Fireside Pies. I went there with a friend when they first opened and I was just NOT impressed AT ALL.

Where can I find good pizza in Dallas?

Mama's pizza in Dallas is no longer what it used to be. My family used to order from the Campbell/Preston location and it was probably the best pizza I've ever had in my life. Unfortunately ownership changed hands sometime in 2004 at that location and the quality went downhill immediately. I think it closed sometime in 2006 or 2007 and the only other location is in Plano, but it just doesn't have the same taste or feel at all.

Best burger in Downtown Dallas?

Fuddruckers, seriously? Maybe you think Burger King is a serious contender for the title too.

Dallas or Houston "Japanese Kobe" beef

Tei Tei Robata Bar in Dallas has a good selection of authentic Japanese kobe beef. The taste is absolutely superb but it's INCREDIBLY expensive (if you're seeking out kobe beef, you probably already knew this.)

Steak and Sushi in Plano/Richardson TX

I've never been to Stone Horse but seeing as I live off of Campbell, I'm forced to drive by it all the time. Honestly I think the decorations look pretty ridiculous and inappropriate for a Japanese restaurant, so I've always just stayed far away from it.

That being said, Sushi Sake is right down the street from Stone Horse and provides an excellent authentic experience. The majority of the staff are true Japanese and so are many of the customers/families. The atmosphere is absolutely SUPERB as well - hands down the best environment out of any of the many sushi restaurants that I've eaten at over the years.

As for the food - fantastic as well. Most of the dishes are authentic and you won't find too much in the way of bizarre 'Americanized' sushi rolls (can't stand when a restaurant does this). The fish is all really, really fresh and is prepared piece-by-piece in front of you if you choose to sit at the sushi bar.

Anyways, I feel like I'm droning on too much about Sushi Sake. There are a few other good authentic restaurants in the area that I'd recommend (all of them have native Japanese speaking staff and customers):
- Sushiyama at Forest/75. Very extensive menu, good prices, Tuesday/Saturday Bento specials (great deal!)
- Robata Sushi at Frankford/Tollway. Only restaurant that my girlfriend and I have found that serves Chūhai (Japanese alcoholic soda-type beverage)
- Ino Japanese at Coit/Campbell. Just recently discovered this place. Kind of a strange atmosphere for a Japanese restaurant but friendly staff and pretty authentic food.
