Vietnamese near Crowfoot, Calgary

Thanks for letting me know!

best pizza in calgary?

We went to Famoso yesterday for the first time and I really liked their crust. I'd definitely go back but would try different toppings next time (we had the Thai).

Authentic Greek Yogurt

Yeah I picked up a couple of those yesterday too— I have a medical condition that is kept in check by eating yogurt (I guess it could be worse) so I'm always on the lookout for new yumminess!
I haven't tried them yet—got one of each—but I'll let you know what I think once I do.

Authentic Greek Yogurt

I've had a hard time finding my usual Liberté lately (not sure why) so I picked up some of the blueberry Oikos and really liked it. Creamy and tasty.

Thanks for the info on Taste of Saigon—that's good news!

Vietnamese near Crowfoot, Calgary

Anyone know of any Vietnamese restos around the Crowfoot Crossings area other than Pho Huong Viet? My fave one in Silver Springs closed down and we couldn't seem to find a place on a day that PHV was closed—which I found odd as they seem to be on every other block where I live (Killarney-ish).

Mini donut maker

My cousin in Seattle received a mini donut maker for Christmas and the little critters were quite tasty. Anyone seen anything similar in Calgary so I can save myself some postage?

Butterscotch suckers

Chapters is selling the See's lollipops. Don't know if butterscotch is among them or if it's the type you're looking for though.

Suggestions for NYE in YYC?

Oops, sorry, of course.
Sounds like a great choice!

Things "hidden" in traditional celebratory foods?

Greek New Year's cake, Vasilopita, has a coin hidden inside. In our household, whoever found it received an amount of money, $20-50 depending on how generous my father was feeling that year.

Gingerbread and Egg Nog in Calgary

For gingerbread cookies I'd suggest either Glamorgan bakery or Yum Bakery at the Calgary Farmer's Market—although I haven't been to the latter since the location change. I do think that they're gingerbread people rather than plain cookies but I haven't paid attention.

Pies and Tarts YYC

I haven't tried the pies but I do find the rest of their baked goods to be hit-or-miss.

I saw that Glamorgan Bakery has tarts; pies too but large ones.

Not good then?
What about Sunterra?

"Creepy log barn thing": that made me laugh :D

I know Sobey's has small fruit pies but I've never tried them.

Poll -- What foods/food items do you prefer commercially made?

Store-bought phyllo and the one that my mom/aunts/etc. make at home seem like two entirely different entities to me; both the taste and textures are completely different. We usually use the homemade phyllo for full-size pitas (not the bread, the pies) and store-bought for the individual sized ones. I actually can't image HOW to make the paper-thin store-bought phyllo at home.

Coffee Yogurt in Calgary

Sobey's (Strathcona location) now also has a Liberté Organic zero fat cafe latte yogurt.

Early dinner in Calgary

Brilliant idea! A couple of us have been meaning to check it out too.

Still wouldn't mind a few more options to have at the ready—and Hounds come up with places that don't usually cross my mind (after all, I was thinking we'd have to settle for some chain like Chili's).

Early dinner in Calgary

I LOVE Diner Deluxe — I could live on their chocolate sourdough french toast — but they don't start dinner until 5.

I'll definitely throw out Big Fish as a suggestion but I think it may be a little out of some people's price range, esp. the two recently laid off :( Thanks!

Early dinner in Calgary

Hey y'all,

Some friends and I are going to the matinee showing of Stomp at the (Calgary) Jube this Saturday. It ends at about 3:30 so we're looking at a 4 pm dinner (we're also heading somewhere else at 6 so can't wait for most typical dinner openings). Any recs around the auditorium or as far west as Market Mall? We're good with pretty much all types of cuisine. Thanks!

Etiquette- The holidays. traveling and the vegan

She said that if she eats dairy it makes her sick. And it sounds as if the family puts milk, cream, butter and/or cheese in all their sides and "vegan" dishes.

Gaucho Brunch (YYC)

I guess I can answer my own question as we ended up going there today for lunch.

Basically it's a scaled-down version of the dinner—I think they do the same on weekdays and have just started weekends too, calling it brunch instead of lunch.
The regular salads and side dishes are available.
They offer seven meats: sirloin, brisket, rump steak, chicken wings, sausage, pork loin, parmesan beef (and chicken hearts when we were there but it wasn't stated on the menu) for $22 or you can chose to have only 1, 2 or 3 with the sides at a lower cost.
Although I missed the ribs and lamb from the dinner selection, this was great!

Gaucho Brunch (YYC)

Hi,

I've been to Gaucho's once, for dinner, and really liked it, especially the parmesan crust beef. We're looking into going there for brunch; Has anyone been? What do they offer? Is it as good as dinner?

Thai Kitchen rice

My London Drugs used to have the lemongrass & ginger variety of Thai Kitchen's jasmine rice but it looks as if they're not carrying it anymore. If anyone knows a store that has it or if you run across it, please let me know. It is sooooo good!

Thai Place

Do you know offhand if they're open Saturday for lunch? If you don't, I'll give them a call.

Coffee Yogurt in Calgary

I saw Astro's cappuccino yogurt at the Sobey's in Strathcona. I didn't get it but I did pick up their caramel one and it was really good.

What's up with this place (Calgary)?

I'm wondering if The Rice Bowl is a franchise or if he's trying to make it into one? The new banner that went up (unrolled from a giant sheet) gave me that impression.

What's up with this place (Calgary)?

I knew that much—I 'm curious as to what's going on with the new guy. Margaret said she'd had such a good offer that she couldn't turn it down which led me to think that the new owner had some great plan/idea in mind but it doesn't seem to have panned out that way.

What's up with this place (Calgary)?

Wouldn't be surprised.
