Kosher in Newport Beach CA
My family and I will be staying in Newport Beach at the end of April for a weekend.
Does anyone know if there is ANY Kosher food there at all? I couldn't find a single restaurant!
Thanks

This would be the perfect time to drop the Kitniyot issue once and for all...
RJ's Kosher Beef Jerky
I spotted a few packets at the checkout at Cambridge Farms, alas, they only had the Hickory Smoked jerky.
I enjoyed it but it was too smokey for the kids.
It was definitely more expensive than non-kosher high-end jerky, but that's to be expected.
Is Smokin', well, smokin'?
The wife and I gave the place a try and LOVED it.
Fantastic smokey flavors, great eats.

"buy it made, make it yourself (not all that difficult) or don't buy it at all."
Doesn't that apply to... anything?
Best Israeli food in LA?
Yep - Haifa is the place to go.
Mildly rude waiters, tons of little salads, everything in a pita or plate, and the food is pretty decent.

Thanks, all, for your comments.
I've often stood at the checkout counter at Elite Cuisine, wondering if the jerky was worth the try but I've never gathered the courage to actually pick one up.

Kudos to you, ganeden, for judging a fellow restaurateur le’kaf zchut.
Unfortunately, I do not share your optimism in this case.
From where I stand it seems that the owners of Mashu Mashu aren't really trying their best at all. Or maybe they're trying their best to achieve some goal other than what I think it should be, which is to provide service of true quality and or value, preferably both.
I can go into detail, but I'll save it - what I will say is, it seems that Mashu Mashu was thrown together in a pinch by people who didn't really know or care how to run a GOOD restaurant.
As a kosher consumer, I'm tired of being served over-priced, low-quality food by people who seem to want to get away with doing the bare minimum.
End rant.
For now.

We've moved from Pico-Robertson to Valley Village over 18 months ago and are desperately looking for a decent take-out and/or sit-down place.
We've been extremely disappointed with pretty much every offering in the area (Tierra Sur is an excellent option, but it's a drive).
Anybody try Smokin'?
Aside from the owner's own posts, I haven't found any actual reviews.
ganeden, you seem like a very nice person, so I'm going to give your place a shot regardless of the reviews (if any appear), I just want to know what to expect :)

I gotta say, I was utterly disgusted with Mashu Mashu.
The level of disregard to quality of food and service was shocking. Even for a kosher place in the Valley.
I don't see them surviving the year. Unfortunately.
Still waiting for someone, anyone, to open a decent Kosher Chinese restaurant this side of the hill.
Best kosher restaurant
Tierra Sur. Hands down.
I've eaten at some great kosher restaurants in NYC, in Israel and in Paris and there is no competition - Tierra Sur. Best menu, highest quality of ingredients, amazing.
