Christmas Day Brunch in NJ

Hopefully no place is offering Christmas Brunch. Let restaurant workers at least enjoy Christmas morning with their families. I'm sure some greedy restaurant owner somewhere will force his workers to do brunch.

Need good recs for Chinese take-out in Hazlet

I was going to recommend, Crown Palace, but if they are too pricy you are unfortunately doomed to only eating at the takeout only shops that have popped up all over. I've thought Great Wall was one of the better ones. There is also the one on Poole Ave & rt. 36. (forgot the name)

Have you tried the Poached Pear in Point Pleasant. I know that the chef/owner was the chef at Whisper's for the past 10 years or so.

Carton Brewery Atlantic Highlands

Can't be a restaurant serving beer, if it's owned by a brewery. Brewpubs need liquor licenses, and owners of breweries can't own liquor licenses - or something like that.

BRAVO!!!

I look forward to trying your restaurant. Hopefully you cook as passionately as you post. If that is the case your restaurant will be wonderful. All the best to you.

That's awesome that she catered a couple of parties for you. Did you perhaps miss the part of my post where I wrote 'AS MOST CHEFS ARE' in regards to self promotion? This quote is funny though, as it's taken from an article linked below by zidecar :

“I had the wrong perception of what it takes to open a restaurant,” Lynn said, standing in the brightly painted, 44-seat BYOB-er. She calls the interim “a great learning experience and a personal journey.”

Which makes me wonder about this excerpt from the article:

'Almost immediately, Lynn said, bigger catering jobs starting coming in, helping her replenish her funds.'

My question would be, if you don't know what it takes to open a restaurant, in terms of permits & inspections, where do you do your cooking for your catering company? Is it done in an unlicensed facility, perhaps a home? Sounds sketchy to me.

Jing Chuan- A New Schezwan Star in Hazlet!!

You know sockster, I wish I could retract my last statement. In fairness, I only had ordered take out, never ate in house. Honestly, it did seem like the food wasn't as good. At least, although different, we still have Shanghai Bun.

I think part of their problem was that their 'great food' started to become less great almost as quick as it became great.

Nope, not saying that at all. I have no insider knowledge at all. I will point out however, that the calendar doesn't lie. It is already August, and it doesn't look to me like they will be open in the next 30 days.

This thread is pretty hard to follow. I'm not sure jrv, but I'm pretty sure sockster is referring to AMA, as he always says they have the best bread, and the chef recently left.

Krakowiak Restaurant - Polish in South River NJ

Funny you should post this.... On my last visit, which was about 2 months ago, there was a strange guy sitting to the right of the counter. (if your back was to the door) The service was sucked, and I got the feeling that we were not wanted there. There was only one other table, obviously a regular by the waitresses familiarity with him. When we were finished with dinner, I went up to counter to pay. The guy on the right was staring at me. I presumed he was a manger of some sort, so I just nodded and said hello. He said nothing, and just kept staring. I was close to asking him if there was a problem, but I figured it would be best just to leave and write the place & their delicious food off. I'm going back.

Restaurant for a wedding in Central NJ

Wait a second... You actually wrote a review about a shower you were invited to? You do realize that someone thought enough of you to extend n invite, then you actually reviewed their party? I hope that your 'friends' didm't read the part about At the shower there was not even any booze offered", who knows, maybe they couldn't afford much more than a basic party package. I hope they apologized to you for the horrible time you had to endure.

I went to an anniversary party, not a wedding, on this cruise line. I thought it was a pretty good time. We only had passed appetizer tho, no dinner.

Sea Bright Fish Co.

An odd review corvette johnny. You seem to be excited for this place, but this was a more than generous review. if the lobster roll was 'just ok' and the coleslaw was 'bland as could be', you are being extra kind. I wish them well, and will check it out, but I'll let them rise above the ok mark first. (not to be confused with the =mark)

Golden Corral coming soon in Freehold

I guess I'm just going on the craft beer comment. I'm also trying to think of a place with great food that closed, and hasn't reopened. Other than Bay Ave. Trattoria, I can't think of many more. I'd also like to point out that I am thinking the of the Atlantic Higlands - Sea Bright area.

New Microbrewery to open in Atlantic Highlands

The people opening the place are pretty well established in the area. I think, while busier, one Summer season will have very little to do with their success of the place.

Taste Of Smoke BBQ Jackson NJ

That menu looks great for a BBQ joint, not too big. Smoked turkey? Sounds delicious, I don't remember seeing that on the menu at either Local Smoke or Jersey Shore. The grilled cheese sandwich looks like it might be worth arty as well - as long as it's house smoked bacon.

good food in strange places

This is what Chowhound is all about corvette johnny. Don't know if you've read the Chow manifesto, but here it is:

Chowhound's original manifesto:

Everyone has one in his life: the brother-in-law with a collection of 800 takeout menus, the co-worker who's late from lunch because she HAD to trek to one end of town for soup and to the other for a sandwich. Chowhounds know where the good stuff is, and they never settle for less than optimal deliciousness, whether dining in splendor or grabbing a quick slice.

We're not talking about foodies. Foodies eat where they're told. Chowhounds blaze trails. They comb through neighborhoods for culinary treasure. They despise hype. And while they appreciate ambiance and service, they can't be fooled by flash.

No media outlets serve Chowhounds. They've never had a place to gather and exchange information. This discerning, passionate crowd has long been completely invisible and utterly disenfranchised... until now.

If you, too, fret endlessly about making every bite count; if you'd grow weak from hunger rather than willingly eat something less than delicious, this place is for you! Welcome to our community. Let's talk. Let's swap tips.

You needn't be an expert to participate. If you're less food-obsessed than the rest of us, but have a yen for egg creams, gazpacho, or Quisp Cereal, let the resident hounds guide you to the best stuff. Follow (and chime in on) the rollicking discussion -- featuring thousands of messages from characters all over the world.

Maybe the place where you eat dinner at? I mean, you wouldn't think of going to a restaurant on a Saturday night, take up a table, and just order dessert would you?
