Possible to hire a Mexican fruit cart vendor for a party?

You should check out Joe on Oxford between wilshire and 6th. He's the BEST in LA... Biggest servings and freshest fruits plus he's a super nice guy..

What great places have you "discovered" only to find out it was already considered (one of) the best?

Thai boat noodles at Pa Ord and Hoy Ka. Omg, the tongue numbing flavorful broth is absolutely delicious! I actually stopped at Hoy Ka for my staple - Pad Thai, but then I saw everyone eating noodle soup.. No more Pad Thai for me, folks! Then I checked Yelp and saw hundred of reviews with 4-4.5 averages. I don't know how I didn't know about these Thaitown Jewels!!

Best Al Chigae / Altang Jjigae (Spicy Korean Soup/Stew w/Fish Roe)?

My husband's 2 favorite places for al jiggae are Soban or Hamjipark, although he say Hamjipark might have a slight edge probably because they might add a littlle more msg for flavor. I've been throroughly impress with the food at Soban. Some argue that the food doesn't have enough flavor, but my take is that everything is fresh and they don't use alot of msg like other places.

You should also try the Eun Dae Gu Jorim (braised cod in soy marinade). It's absolutely delicious and the owner himself told us that all the fish is fresh and brought in daily..

The banchan speaks for itself..

Korean cold spicy noodles?

I have 2 favorite Ktwon spots for spicy noodles.

If you want spicy bibim naengmyun, then you should definitely go to Hamhung on Olympic. IMO, it's simply the best and drinking the delicious hot yooksoo (beef broth) will make it that much better. You can choose from raw skate, beef, or pork, but I truly think beef is the way to go.

Madang Kooksoo also has a good variety of spicy noodles, all which are delicious as well. They don't have naengmyun, but they do have regular somen spicy noodles, acorn spicy noodles, and good jjolmyun (thick chewy rice) noodles too..

Please Magic Johnson + Guggenheim, make this happen

I was there for the first game of the new ownership. Magic Johnson's smile was electrifying and got everyone on their feet. $10 parking was great.... Food needs MAJOR overhaul. Didn't even bother with the awful Dodger dogs, so we opted for the nachos. Everything was evidently from Sysco/US Foodservice. Blah blah blah. Yes, let's dream: Kogi tacos, 800 degree pizza, Kyocho wings, Langers, Canters, King taco...... Anything's better than the cr*p there now~

Koreatown/Mid Wilshire recs not necessarily Korean!

I'd highly recommend you look into the miracle mile area, which is around the area of LA brea and Wishire.. There are many places to eat, quick bites, drugstores, Ralphs, and a Trader Joes on La Brea and 3rd. I loved living there. Plus, it's a quick drive to Koreatown!! There are plenty of apts as well...

boston hound for 9 days in LA, LAX, Anaheim, Fullerton areas

If you like a hole in the wall and want to try amazing Korean noodle soup and Korean style tempura, head over to hangari kalgooksoo in garden grove. It will be about a 15-20 minute drive from Disneyland area, and trust me it will not disappoint. They only offer one type of kimchee but it is truly all you need and is that amazing. I live in LA, but meet my mom in orange county and will insist on eating here every time.

Birthday party (dol) in Koreatown

Can you do Orange county? I recently went to a dol at Little Prince in Fullerton. There is a playroom for all the kids to play while the adults can sit, eat, and mingle in the restaurant area. The food was really good, it was basically catered Korean food but really delicious! If you can't do OC, then I'm sure there are places similar to this in LA are. Yelp it for more info!

Korean food to go in Koreatown?

I really like Mapo Ggakdugi restaurant on Normandie and 6th and have ordered food to go many times.. They have all the usual suspects on the menu, but if you're into fish, the fried fish and the braised cod are excellent! They also have jaeyook stir fry (pork), bulgogi, and I think they have LA kalbi as well. The food here is much better quality and they will also give you a LOAD of banchan. Parking lot is small but the valet will usually let you run in to pick it up!

Last Minute Christmas help for Korean Parents in SFV or near by (LA)

We recently had my father's birthday dinner at Sushi-gen. My father is approaching 70 and has lived in SOCAL for the past 40 years. We sat at the sushi bar, ordered a super nice bottle of sake and he had the meal of his life... Seriously, he really enjoyed it.

It won't break the bank. Sushi for 4 of us including a nice bottle of sake was around $400.

Banh Mi Bread anywhere near West Hollywood

I love Banh Mi bread. Who doesn't?
I can eat it everyday.
Problem is that I hate driving all the way to San Gabriel just for bread...

Anyone know of a place that sells decent banh mi bread near West Hollywood?

Doener kebabs like Balli in Berlin, Germany, but in L.A.?

My husband can talk for hours about the delicious doner kebabs in Germany and how he thinks he at about 6 in one day. He is still in search but nothing has come close... Not even Spitz!

my silly question: any jarred kimchi locally without MSG?

Not a silly question at all!!
Assi Market promotes almost all of their banchan & kimchi by containing NO MSG..
I recently tried their radish kimchi. Very good and tasted almost homemade.
Located on 8th & Oxford..

Menu change at Casa Bleve

We had reservations at CB a few days ago and were rather disappointed that they stopped the antipasto lunch buffet. Our waiter informed us that this change happened 2 weeks ago. We still enjoyed a bottle of wine, a platter of artisan cured meats, and a small plate of 4 different types of cheese, all at a rather hefty pricetag of 85 Euros... The restaurant was packed at around 2pm with the who's who and very important looking non-tourists.

Who knows, it could have been a strategic manuever to keep the tourists away :)

How is Casa Bleve for dinner?

The wonderful & informative Katie Parla! You've no idea how much I've been reading your blog. It's been so helpful and just a wealth of knowledge. I look forward to reading new entries daily... I'm sure there millions just like me who thank you for it..

So I've changed my Bleve reservation to lunch. Can I ask you one more question though? I'm making dinner reservations only during 5 nights in Rome. So far I have: Vladmiro, La Taverna Dei Fori, Checcione, and Buca Di Ripetti. Can you suggest one more??

I'm torn. It seems everyone recommends Casa Bleve for lunch, but we're thinking about doing a dinner here. Is the same antipasto buffet offered? Would love to hear your feedback. Thanks!

3 days in Radda Chianti? What to do? Where to eat?

I'll be in Radda (Palazzo San Niccolo) for 3 days arriving on a Sunday with hopes for the Solociccia lunch that day. We plan to spend one day in Siena and also would like to visit surrounding areas, like San Gimignano, Pisa, Lucca, etc... Any advice on itinerary and places/restaurants not to miss?

Would like to throw in a half day cooking class as well. We'll be on a motorcycle so we can be pretty flexible. Also, any recommendations for a place to stay?

Help!! Thanks in advance..

Good place for good eats & overnight stop driving north from Parma to Luzern Switzerland?

Thank you Jen K. We've decided that Bergamo would be a perfect place to stop. Can you recommend a place to stay as well as a good restaurant? What are the specialty foods up in that region that we should be aware of?

I look forward to hearing your input! Grazi!!
