Long Gone But Not Forgotten! Outer Borough Memories

I do remember Chow Chow Cup but was never a big fan.
As for Nathan's 99% of the time I got hot dogs otherwise I went for the soft shell crab sammich.
Does anyone remember the Back Room at Nathan's which had waiter service? The new rest rooms are in that space and replaced the pay 5 cent toilets.
There is still a pay toilet at the Wonder Wheel.

Lots of new Mexican places in Wading River/Riverhead

Ole!! There is also Cinco de Mayo if you want a truly bizarre dining experience with authentic Mexican food.

Where do Manhattanites eat in the Hamptons?

No one has asked the most important question: Will you have a car?

Late night pizza parlour...

Artichoke Pizza is open until the wee hours. It's quite a scene. They should charge admission.

Lin's Gardens

As Mona Lisa Vitto said: "I'm POSITIVE!" I actually have one of their business cards. The place next door Kam Bo (I think) also had amazing Chow Fun but they were not open 24/7.

Nathan's did have it. Along with frog legs and soft shell crab sammiches.

Lin's Gardens

It was called Lin's Garden. I have been searching and have yet to find an equal.
Phoenix Garden in Murray Hill has a similar dish to Lin's Chow Fun.
When I drove a taxi back in the day I loved hitting Lin's on my way back to the depot at 3 AM. Very lively crowd there.

Lunch spot on North Fork this coming Friday

Hellenic also has amazing fresh fish.

Goldberg's Bagel Riverhead

Went back this morning for my usual: Garlic bagel, scallion cream cheese lox and a little onion on top.
Out of the 9 garlic bagels in the bin only one had adequate garlic for my taste: "No, not that one, the one on the left!!"
That being said, it was excellent with an adequate amount of lox. Lox must not be a big seller, it's not on the menu and I had to wait for the one person at the counter who was "authorized" to slice the lox.
I was still surprised that at 8 AM the place was almost empty. It's the best kept secret on Main St.. Not a good formula for success.

Black Seed Bagels

"I sit in the window on a cool clear morning with my meal and the paper and all is right."
Sounds like a priceless NYC moment!!

Goldberg's Bagel Riverhead

So, on coll's rec I go for lunch today with my buddy. We order 2 pastrami sammiches. I guess it was wishful thinking that the pastrami would be hot pastrami from a steamer. When I asked the counterman said "This is better than the hot stuff." Knowing I was not at Katz's I let it go. The next thing he says is: "I don't have enough for two sandwiches." WTH? they ran out of pastrami? So we ordered a corned beef (also cold) sammich and swapped halves.
He did heat up the sliced meat on the grill but overall it was a disappointment.
Otherwise, it was noon and the place was empty. I asked when they were having their grand opening? "We don't do that!" No advertising either. Makes you wonder what the business plan is. Hope they survive.
They do have excellent bagels!!

How The Coffee Shop Has Ruined Customer Service

Personally, I don't think of Starbuck$$ type places as coffee shops.
At a coffee shop I can get an excellent cup of coffee prepared perfectly with a toasted corn muffin for under $10.

The Riverhead Project closes its doors for now...

Rent in Greenport has to be a fraction o Riverhead. I'll miss tRp. Dennis brought with it a touch of class Riverhead has never known.

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

Grana. Excellent thin crust pizza to go with the chaotic service.

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

On opening day I can already see the line of all 6 Orient Pointers waiting for the two tables!!!!

NEVER!!!

There is a sit down counter!
I hear Olive Garden is coming to Orient!! HAH!!

Goldberg's Bagel Riverhead

Sounds like Monday's lunch!!

Goldberg's Bagel Riverhead

I tried Riverhead's newest bagel shop this morning and was impressed. Excellent bagel, probably the best of the 4 bagel shops in town. Nice crust and a chewy center. My garlic bagel could have had more garlic but I won't judge based on one experience.
Ample cream cheese and nova was a plus.
I'll be back!!!

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

Amazing!! A welcome addition to the North Fork. Gerardo Lombardi himself was manning the pizza oven making excellent thin crust pizza. No need to travel all the way to Greenport for a good cheese selection. Great looking prepared foods, cold cuts and fresh made sausage. Try the hot sausage if you dare. MMMMMM HOTTTTT!!!
I hope the North Fork will support a high class market like this one.
Buona Fortuna!!

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

The space is not as big. They took over another gourmet market that went belly up.
The Lombardi family always runs a classy operation so I expect the best.
Report tomorrow.

Lombardi's comes to Mattituck

Lombardi's Italian specialty market just opened on Love Lane in Mattituck. I love their market in Holbrook. Sort of like Eataly on a much smaller scale.
Amazing fresh Italian sausage. If you like spicy you have to try the hot sausage.
I am definitely going to check it out today.
