gas grill... another one bites the dust?!?

Sorry, off topic but:
I've bought inexpensive $200-300 and expensive $600-800 gas grills only to find that the burner parts don't last more than 4-5 years.
Now I buy the least expensive grill that fulfills my need for 4 burners. Most of them will come with a side burner which I hardly ever use.
I like marinated meat and will slather the excess marinade on the meat as it grills. It spills onto the burner parts and imparts a nice flavor.
Since the marinade is somewhat salty the burner parts rot. Even stainless steel will rot. The rest of the grill looks brand new.
Companies like Weber will send new parts but have you ever tried changing the parts when everything is totally rusted. If the high priced grills came with a parts and labor warranty that would be worth the price.
I paid $800 back in the day for a Ducane grill with all the bells and whistles. Lasted 4 years. Back to my $299 grills.
Thanks for letting me share.

How frugal can they be??

To respond to all of the responses:
Yes, I did go out and buy a bottle of duck and soy sauce.
I have been a retailer for most of my working life and know about overhead and keeping costs down.
One of the gals in our office uses tons of duck sauce, not me.
The O.P. was not a complaint, more of an amusing laughable moment. I half expected the woman to ask how many people and count out 2 napkins per person.
The food is great, we'll keep going and enjoying the interaction.
I never said they were "cheap" I used the word "frugal." We never use the word "cheap" in our office. Our services are "affordable" and a "good value."

How frugal can they be??

Our local Chinese take out joint makes great food. We get lunch to go for the office at least once a week and I'll get takeout for dinner whenever I'm working late.
They are stingy with the duck and soy sauce. Every time I pick up our order I ask for more soy and duck sauce. The peeps in the office love their sauce. The woman at the counter will toss in two. "More please!" Another two, "More please." It's like a Seinfeld episode!!
There are four of us in the office so she gives us 4 plastic forks.
I use chopsticks: "May I please have chopsticks?" "How many?" "One please." She puts in one pair of chopsticks and removes one fork from the bag.
I had to laugh!!!!

Unless the client intentionally caused the fire the insurance company would cover the loss. Insurance policies do account for client stupidity.

Do you trust restaurant websites?

Address and phone number. Otherwise they are like any other ad. I look at the menu to get a sense of what type of food they serve.
There is nothing better than a CH review.

Chocolate Chips Taste Like Mold?

Do they taste moldy after they have been baked into cookies. I love eating the chips before baking and can understand tasting a slight moldy taste. After baking they taste totally different totally sweet.

Online Reservations...great, and not so great!

If O.T. does not show an available table I have called the restaurant direct with some luck.
But try calling a dinner only restaurant in the morning to book a last minute reservation for that evening. That's when O.T. excels!!

Some critters will chew anything. Something chewed the top of my plastic gas can. What could smell worse?
Run the hose thru a bigger hose or metal pipe if possible.
Did the tank leak? Very dangerous.

Open Table is the bestest!!!
Even Open Table is not infallible:
The only time I ever had a problem was with Scrimshaw in Greenport. I made a business lunch reservation that was confirmed. The whimsical restaurant owner decided not to open for lunch that day. No notice to Open Table or to me. Imagine my embarrassment. Totally bush league restaurant management.

Greenport

Same for me. Blue Duck is good and reliable but not memorable.
Junda's rocks.
Modern Snack bar has excellent pies. I love their Lemon Meringue.
Prestano's in Rocky Point is very good. Excellent exotic bread on the weekends and maple glazed bacon topped donuts every day.

Seeded watermelon

I have only been able to find them at farmers markets.

Canned foods . I use them . Do you ?

I use fresh when I can but do use canned foods:
Chick peas for hummus. Quick and easy.
Canned corn for crab cakes and corn bread.
I keep some canned mushrooms around for when I don't have fresh.
Canned plum tomatoes for sauce.
Canned pork and beans for baked beans with franks. My ultimate comfort food.

Pan Fried Steak

The grill @ Casa Motosport is open year round!! I've got a great picture of myself standing in 12" of snow spatula in hand and snow piled up on the grill.
Pan fry pork & lamb chops or chicken every once in a while. My mom pan fried steaks and they were excellent.

Birthday lunch for a tween girl

If you don't mind spending a few buck try Riverpark. If the weather is nice reserve an outside table.
Or, El Rio Grande is always fun and reasonable. Patio table if weather permits.
Otto in the W Village if your party is not too big.

North Fork Crush

Went to the Rotary Uncorked event at Martha Clara vineyard last night. Great fun, good food and drink.
A nice variety of local eateries, breweries and vineyards were giving generous samples. I had to pace myself, the food was so good.
It was $80 which is a little more than the similar events but it was a charity event. Rotary does great work.

Good Chinese or Italian in Brooklyn.

Gargiulo's in Coney Island. Great food, near the subway and parking lot. I don't know if they may be too expensive or not.

Where would you go for dinner around Grand Central?

Salvation Taco is 3 short blocks from GC.
I hear they have a rooftop thing going on but don't know if it's drinks only.
If the weather is nice the patio at El Rio Grande is fun. Great pitchers of drinks and amazing appetizers. A nice setting to talk.

Nick's Lobster NOT!

At a friend's suggestion I checked out Nick's Lobster's web site. I signed up for their email specials. My friend and I are both May babies and we received gift certificates for $25 off dinner so we decided to go and celebrate.
It was a Friday night and they were busy but not crazy busy. The totally grumpy hostess said there was a wait and snapped :"Sit over there" as she pointed to some lumpy sofas. We thought we'd have a drink at the bar but were surprised that it was beer and wine only. Such is life.
There was a table for two in an undesirable location and I pointed to it and asked "Grumpy" if we could sit there. "No! Sit down."
A few minutes later we got a nice table with a water view. As instructed, we gave the waiter the two birthday certificates. He looked dismayed and called over "Grumpy" who said: "You can only use one per table" I went into Brooklyn wise guy mode and said: "How about if my friend sits at that other table?" "NO!!" and she stormed away. Such is life and we were not going to let it ruin our birthday celebration.
We ordered two lobsters, one steamed and one broiled, and drinks.
The waiter was totally friendly and efficient.
The lobsters and sides came. Lobsters were totally overdone and dry. A big disappointment. We looked at one another, thought of complaining to the NYS DMV trained hostess and said "Nah."
For a place that specializes in lobster the food was a big disappointment. The hostess, such is life.
We had a delightful evening none the less.

My Mid-western friend went to a see movie in Manhattan. Some "skell" snatched her purse off the seat. I asked: "What did you do?" She said: "I didn't want to make a scene."

Trader Joe's!!!! I get dizzy in that store.
They did an amazing restoration of the South Brooklyn Savings Bank building. Commendable!!
I still remember being in awe as I gazed up at the rotunda while holding the hand of my grandfather, (Jidah in Syrian).

I LOVE Sahadi's. (I'm jumping up and down on my sofa now.) I love what they have done with the store. It is the jewel of Atlantic Ave. Sahadi's has brought new blood and $$$$ to Atlantic Ave.
Personally I prefer a market where I will run into Eddie Kochak http://www.eddiekochak.net/ an old family friend.
I have enough friends from Little Rock who think Luquer St is pronounced "Lu Ker" and not "Lu Queer."

Round out my Atlantic Ave run

Let me clear up any confusion I may have caused:
I was born in the neighborhood. My family went to Sahadi, Near East Bakery (closed), Damascus, Malko and Oriental Grocery and two Syrian grocery stores on the other side of Clinton St. back in the day.
Sahadi saw the writing on the wall and seized the opportunity to expand and appeal to the new generation of Brooklynites. They did a wonderful thing.
To me the transformation was similar to the changes to Times Square, a Disneyfication of sorts. Sahadi attracted the cream of the crop from Omaha and Pittsburgh, not a bad thing. Strollers galore on a Saturday afternoon.
I prefer a burlap sack of coffee beans and a clay urn full of loose grape leaves to sterile packaging.
