Cloudy Iced Tea
Not for nuthin' but! I am an iced tea freak. Never enough. I used the Lipton Cold Brew tea bags and they work great and make a very tasty tea.
I am not sure if it's "black tea" or not.
If you want a stronger tea let them "steep" longer.
red sauce Italian near the Theater District- Trattoria Trecolori, Puttanesca or somewhere else?
We have not been to the other places but go to Puttanesca often. Always very good. Never disappointed.
Seeing Someone Touch Your Food
Having grown up in a big family and having children myself this would not bother me. We always had our fingers in everything.
That being said, I can see how it would bother some.
Then again, the food handlers put on gloves then put their hand down on the counter, touch a bakery box, handle money etc..
The only time I ever had an issue is when a deli worker made my sammich wearing gloves, sneezed into her hands and then wrapped my sammich. I made a complaint to the manager and left. I guess we all have our limits.
What are your FAVORITE meals or dishes to enjoy when it's HOT outside?
I make strawberry Gazpacho during local strawberry season!! Refreshing and tasty!
There are several simple recipes on the internet.
Funniest thing you seen in a restaurant?
A group of six of us went to our favorite Chinese place. My ex was drinking quite a bit that evening. She got up to use the ladies room at the end of the meal. We all took our fortunes and carefully slipped them into her fortune cookie.
She got back to the table joined the conversation, popped the cookie into her mouth and chewed and chewed and chewed. It was hilarious. I don't think she ever knew.
I hope she does not read this. I still live in fear 20 years later.
"real" chinese food??
We have the luxury of living in NYC where there are many choices for "Authentic" Chinese food. Even the restaurants with 80 % authentic dishes will still have some "American" (Gen Tsao's etc) on the menu for the less adventurous.
In my experience most places will take requests. So, find a few authentic dishes that you like and make requests. Each chef may have his own idea but you'll get something you will like.
Don't worry about feeling "stupid". Save that for Paris.
your favorite food movie..
The Big Night is my all time favorite!!
Just saw Love's Kitchen. Great movie about food and love.
And of course Fatso!!
Italian near the Theatre District
We went to Becco once pre theater with a couple who always go there before a show. For the life of me I can't understand why they don't try other Manhattan restaurants. We were "along for the ride".
Becco was good, not great. We had a reservation but still waited 20 minutes. We rushed thru dinner to make the show.
So many better places.
Crabs In New York City?
City Crab Friday night for some steamed blue claws!! Ouch, they didn't have any hard crabs. Only softies.
I opted for the crab cakes which were excellent and filling wihout lots of breading. 1/2 dozen raw oysters to start. Great meal and wonderful service. Not too pricey.
I don't know why they get a bad rap from some.
Oysters?
Shuck yourself? Ouch!! I have shucked many a clam but never had luck with oysters.
We are located on the East End of LI and don't have any "shuck yourself" places out here. Sorry I could not be of any help.
What are your FAVORITE meals or dishes to enjoy when it's HOT outside?
Lobster grilled on the BBQ and cold yogurt, mint, cucumber, garlic soup!!! Outside on the patio of course!! Just hose off the table when we are done.
Softshell Crabs 2012
Not Manhattan but Modern Snack Bar in Aquebogue on the North Fork has an outstanding huge lightly breaded softie.
I'll have to make it over to Noodletown while they are still in season.
Does a can of Sesame Tahini have to be refrigerated after opening?
Tonight I went in the pantry for some Tahini for hummus. Grabbed a full unopened jar and OOPS!! slipped right out of my hand. SPLATT!! Wish it were a can. What a mess.
Thanks for letting me share!
Where can I find the best soup dumplings in Manhattan???
Shanghai Cafe rocks my world.

La Corsa on E 110 bet Park and Lex has excellent pizza but not the thin crust type.
Does a can of Sesame Tahini have to be refrigerated after opening?
I buy Tahini in glass jars and never refrigerate. Never had a problem. Cans? I would probably transfer to a jar or plastic container.
suggestion for Italian, generous portions
Rossini's on E 38th Bet Park and Lex!! Nice ambience, great old style red sauce Italian. Good value! You won't be rushed!! They even have an opera singer one night a week.

NYC this weekend Thai or Szechuan in East (or West) 40s - need my spice fix.
You are in luck. There are two fairly new places on Lex & 40th. Mapo Tofu and Hunan Manor right across the street. Both excellent!!!
Long Island Wineries - where to go?
Thanks for the heads up Scott. LIB is right down the street from my office. I thought they brewed the beer there but the web site says distributer. HUH? We had lunch Saturday @ the Modern Snack Bar and I tried their ale. Decent brew.
Before movie dinner suggestions for Court near Atlantic
Frankie's is excellent but it is a bit of a hike to the theater.
