Where can I buy raw octopus?

I saw baby Octopus at Whole Foods in Cambridge (Alewife) last night!

Round tables, or seating that will allow everyone to interact

Brasserie JO has a round table. Not sure if it will fit 12...
Bistro du Midi has an amazing private room that isn't an extra charge. They also have a "semi" private room. Pricey though.
"94 Mass Ave" doesn't have round tables but it's a good place to go for a birthday. Plates to share and the table are really wide (so it's almost like a round).

A very small shout-out to The Druid

Yup yup! I love the Druid. They have a nice Oxtail soup as well.

Fantastic meal at Journeyman in Somerville

Sorry to revive a somewhat old thread, but did you really mean that Gargoyles has better food? Just checking, because I have never enjoyed a meal at Gargoyles (went 3 times, trying to give it a chance). We're set to go to Journeyman this week.

MENTON or L'ESPALIER?

Agreed. As a former New Yorker, I can say that Boston definitely doesn't have a Per Se. The only restaurant to match NYC two or three star quality I've found is L'Espalier. I haven't been to Menton yet...on my list.

Pavia (Italian/Pizza) offering free slices (Downtown)

Pavia just opened in the old Boloco spot on Water Street (there was also a deli/cafe place there for a little while). Anyway, there are guys on the street in the mornings offering coupons for a free slice, or $2 off orders of $4 or more. I also saw them giving out coupon's at the register. I know lunch is almost over for today, but I think I've seen these coupons last week, too. Just wanted to give the hounds a heads up!

I am eating a slice of pepperoni right now. Not bad...

They are at 82 Water Street.

Where to get tomatillos in Somerville/Cambridge?

I saw them at Dave's Fresh Pasta in Davis Square yesterday!

Yup, whole milk-fat promotes fertility: http://www.medpagetoday.com/Endocrinology/Infertility/5158

July Openings and Closings

The Olde Boston Cafe on Water St downtown has closed. There appears to be an Italain eatery coming in.

Clover Food Truck in Dewey Square (South Station)

The yummy (and cheap!) Clover Food Truck is now at South Station. Went today and got a BBQ Seitan sandwich for $5. The hot item of the day seemed to be the chick pea sandwich.

Just FYI!

Lunch in the financial district ....as bad as the markets performance...

I agree. I do like the vegetarian sandwich at Chacarero (under $6). Soooo tired of Cosi with their $9 salads...I used to like them but the quality has gone down. I did go to Theo's once. It was ok.

Great meal at Rendezvous

We've also liked it! Good service. We also sat at the bar once which was enjoyable.

Blue Room last night - a question about timing (LONG)

I would guess that it's true that the movie table had no relation to your delay. I doubt the rush to get them out the door actually slowed down your dinner. More likely, your waitress forgot to fire the ticket (as hoytoy mentioned) and didn't bring it to the manager's attention. These things happen. But, should the manager have told you that? Probably not. A more appropriate response might have been "I understand that other tables received prompt service, however, there was obviously some mistake on our part when it came to your experience tonight. May I offer you a [insert free item or coupon here]?"

Best Boston Fancy Lunch

Radius does lunch. You might run into a bit of a business crowd, but the service is great. Still, I'd go for L'Espalier.

Bolocco vs. Qdoba vs. Chipotle

I think you'll probably find opinions on this to vary widely. I go for Chipotle or Boloco (I love their lime-flavored filling...can't tell if it's in the rice or the salsa). Qdoba is ho-hum. And I honestly find Anna's gross. Chicken is always dark meat and slimy, beans undercooked, and there is no white meat option.

2010 Winter RW Report

Went to Radius for lunch, not strictly for RW, but the $20.10 is such an amazing deal that we couldn't pass it up. Their appetizers alone can get close to $16…
Service was wonderful, friendly, and smooth. We each got the cauliflower soup, which had dried mushrooms and some other goodies in the center. DC got the salmon, I got the fried tofu with soba noodles and seaweed. The salmon was good, and a really large portion. The tofu was also good, if a little sparse (fine for me). It was 6 or 7 piece set atop small mounds of noodles and seaweed. Loved the flavors. Desert was a modest portion of carrot cake or butterscotch panna cotta. Both were great.

Symphony #8 - the finale

We went in December (close to when it opened) and did not have a good time. Service was slow and nonchalant. Friendly, but not at all attentive. I had a dry (like, embarrassingly dry) pork chop smothered in sticky sauce. Ick. Then we went downstairs to the bar where you need a password to get in. I thought (perhaps quixotically) that it would be akin to the old Milk and Honey in NYC (the posted “etiquette” rules are very similar). Not at all. There was a 21st birthday going on, and the atmosphere was much more “frat” than “speak easy.” Just totally uncool.

Curious about Sensing

Just to clarify, I thought it was overpriced for what I got. A handful of nachos and cheese with a small amount of chorizo melted into it (I think it was $12). My cocktail was simply "ok."
2 cocktails, 2 glasses of wine, 2 apps, with tip was just over $100. I guess I would be okay paying that if I really loved what I got...

Curious about Sensing

I sat at the bar for drinks and snacks. It was a pretty sophisticated vibe, but I felt that everything was overpriced for what I got. EXCEPT that it was Friday night and they have a special, a dozen oysters for $14. That was a great deal, and they were fresh with a nice onion mignonette. We also got the "nachos" with chorizo. Disappointing. It was melted cheese with chorizo in a little bowl, corn chips in another bowl, and some salad greens in a third bowl (with no dressing...I wasn't sure what to do with them but my DC put them on her nachos).

Best oxtail stew in Boston?

I love the Oxtail Soup at the Druid. Is that the same as stew? Anyway, it's great and the Druid is a fun atmosphere (Irish, but indy-Irish).

Best martini?

Any place serve them in smaller glasses? The idea of these huge martinis served for $14 a pop always bothers me. They get warm and icky by the end of the drink. I sometimes wish I could find a place with the Mad Men-style (2 or 3 gulp) sized glasses... anyone?

Upstairs on the Square TORTURE!!

We had our office holiday party there recently and I thought the food was quite good, although my portions were small (I never complain about that, but it was two little Lamb Chops, and my husband's portion was much larger...inconsistent portions is the problem I guess). The problem I had was the service. Come on, people, hire a manager that can train people! They were all very nice, but seemed totally clueless to Service 101 stuff.

Chef's Table at L'Espalier

Hm...when I was there they showed us the chef's table and it's definitely in the kitchen. There is a glass panel around 2 or 3 sides of it (which offers some separation). It's also only able to seat 4 people at most. Are you sure you're not thinking of a private room?

Bostonian Needs a Rec for Anniversary Dinner

Thanks, but it's unfortunately full for the Saturday night I am looking for. I am on the wait list. The hotel concierge suggested Bistrot Lepic and Marcel. Any thoughts on those?

Bostonian Needs a Rec for Anniversary Dinner

Hello there DC-ers! I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for an Anniversary Dinner. We're staying in Georgetown, so nearby would be ideal, but not necessary. We like great food, great wine list, a Bistro-like atmosphere, French is good but not totally necessary, and definitely not stuffy or too uptight. Money is not an object for this special meal! Thanks.

Bars in Inman and Central?

I love the Druid for their fish and chips and a very well-dressed spinach salad. Yum!

Been to Bina lately?

Went for lunch last week and everything was pretty mediocre. The service was terrible (only one waiter, who stocked plates and things while people tried to catch his eye, and a mostly unhelpful manager). The meatballs on the appetizer menu were weird, cold (meant to be cold I assumed) and full of bread crumbs (so wet, cold, and no flavor...ick).

Superb dishes at mediocre restaurants

I am sure there is a Chilli's around here somewhere, but back in my college days I was wild for their "Chopped Salad" which was divine. Grilled chicken, bacon, tortilla strips, corn, beans, lime-cilantro sauce with some sort of drizzle of something...the flavors were just so great together. Unfortunately they took it off the menu and have something that's similar, but not quite right, and features FRIED chicken pieces. Ick. Haven't been back in years.

HELP!!! Need names of 4 Good Business Restaurants in Boston

I second Mooo as a good choice for a group Business dinner. I've sent people there (not in a large group) for Business many times. Also, they have private rooms (the Wine Cellar) as well as rooms connected to the hotel (XV Beacon Hotel).
