Honey Toast Box in NYC?
Cha An in the East VIllage offers a version of this toast box: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathyylchan/5084391791/
Their is less huge/decadent than places which serve it on the west coast, but portioned nicely for one person. They do it with your choice of ice cream, azuki beans, whipped cream, and raspberry sauce. I like all at the same time!

Yuba Restaurant – A New Generation of Chefs and Excellent Innovative Japanese in the East Village
Great review - I'm a big fan of Yuba though I'm always concerned about how quiet and empty it is in there! The Green Tea Mille Crepe comes from Lady M on the UES. They actually get all their desserts from Lady M save for the Butternut Squash Creme Brulee.

Millefeuille - where did you find the delivery menu? I've been poking all around the web, but can't seem to find an online copy of the menu anywhere. The weather today calls for delivery! ;)

Soup to Take Home - west village
+1 on the soup from Murray's Cheese.
They do a great Smoky Tomato Soup (photo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathyylchan/5428425762/) as well as a reliable Chicken Noodle Soup (photo here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kathyylchan/5428428802/). Price is fair too: $4.50 for 16 ounces. Get a baguette from Tom Cat, which they also carry, some cheese, and you're set for dinner!

Whole wheat pancakes on Waikiki?
I'm a fan of the whole wheat pancakes (they come in blueberry or banana) from Andy's Sandwiches & Smoothies. It's a casual spot in Manoa, order at the counter, pick up your food, and open seating. Nothing fancy but a certain bargain, $4.95 for a hearty stack of three.

Corton-Birthday dinner for a food writer
Did you already visit for dinner? If so, how was your experience? Am going tonight - my stomach can hardly wait!! :D
The Famous Dal Cart - 2nd Ave and 10 St.
Looks like they sell mango lassi's as well...has anyone tried?
Corton-Birthday dinner for a food writer
I am very glad you posted - I'm actually taking my boyfriend there for his birthday as well! We are going for an 8pm seating on a Wednesday and I am leaning towards not doing the tasting either...$85 for three courses versus $145 for the tasting is a huge price difference, especially if we're doing wine as well.
But with that said, has anyone tried the three course and the tasting? Is the difference worth it...part of me wants to be convinced to do the tasting...heheh

Le Palais des Thes teas in NY?
You can find Le Palais de Thés at The Tea and Honey Store (Grand Central Terminal, 107 East 42nd Street New York, NY 10017). They carry a fairly large selection, so you're in luck! Thé du Hammam is my personal favourite :)

best bo kho (w/ bread)
They used salmon for the caramel fish - I'm also looking for a non-salmon version, will let you know if I come across one!
Haven't found good caramel pork yet.....but now I'm having all these Wednesday morning Vietnamese food cravings!
Lunch suggestions near Metropolitan Museum
I second yura's Square Meal - the cheddar scones ( http://flickr.com/photos/kathyylchan/2802662917/in/set-72157603788267866/ ) that come at the beginning of each meal is worth the visit alone :)
Pizza for the lactose intolerant?
I'm fond of the "Raw and Vegan Flaxseed-Herb Crust Pizza" from FreeFoodsNYC. Comes with macadamia "ricotta", spinach, tomato, and basil. It's nothing like a traditional slice of pizza (served cold, small wedges, sold by the pound), but worth at least one try.
I've been getting it from the new 150 E 52nd St location...not sure if they also carry it at the 18 W 45th St location. The pizza is $14/pound...pricey, but made from quality ingredients.

best bo kho (w/ bread)
I like the Nam Son version well in enough, but it is lacking in flavour and not hearty enough for me. I haven't found a single place in Manhattan that compares to the Bo Kho's in San Gabriel Valley and Hawaii, where's it's thick enough to consume with bread alone, no utensils needed. Nam Son's bread is a hit and miss - I've definitely come on days where it was stale, but if worse comes to worse, you can always buy just the bread from a banh mi shop and bring it in ^_^
But as far as the caramel fish (is it "Ca Kho" which you refer to?), my favourite version is at Nha Trang on 87 Baxter St. Here's a photo of the dish -> http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2044/2175330617_cc30bc276f.jpg
Baoguette, curry hill
The spicy beef stew (aka "Bo Koh Banh Mi") is a classic Vietnamese dish. When properly made is very thick, spicy, and nothing akin to sloppy joe. Did they serve it with the baguette on the side (as is usually done), or were the beef chunks tucked inside the baguette sandwich style?
Anthos Report (long)
I was at Anthos for dinner yesterday evening, and while my dining companion and I did not do the tasting, we did have a few dishes which overlapped with Kasiav's. For those interested, photo documentation of our meal can be found here -> http://flickr.com/photos/kathyylchan/tags/anthos/
Of all the dishes that evening, I found the Smoked Octopus and Grilled Diver Scallops with Jerusalem Artichokes to be the highlight of our meal, along with a side dish of Trahana and Fried Shallots (a special for the night). While entrees were perfectly decent (Macaronia, Sweetbreads, Smoked Mushrooms, Tomato, Kefalotiri Cheese and Crisped Turbot, Veal Cheek, Squash Sofrito, Lentil), the appetizers were far more intriguing and ambitious.
We shared two desserts:
- Galaktoboureko: Semolina Pudding, Ginger Ice Cream, Concord Grape Sorbet, Phyllo
This was my favourite of the two desserts. Crisp phyllo wrapped around the semolina pudding - subtle and airy light, there must have been plenty of air whipped into this...a pro or con, depending on the diner's preference. The pudding was topped with four melon ball sized scoops of the ice cream and sorbet. Ginger was spicier than anticipated - always a plus.
- Honey Crisp Apple Terrine: Mastic ice Cream, Apple Kataifi, Walnut, Lemon
My first taste of mastic in any form - licorice-esque and woodsy, subtly sweet. That was interesting. It was a nice compliment to apple terrine, which was akin to the apple tatin minus the phyllo crust. Hovering on the mushy side.
Mignardise included a cloud of Raspberry Yogurt Cotton Candy, Chocolate Sesame Cake, Russian Tea Cookies, and Spiced Pear Gelees.
All in all, a perfectly lovely meal, though I won't be returning in the near future. At these prices (entrees in the high 30s/ low 40s, apps around 20, desserts at 12), Anthos is worth visiting at least once, but I'd prefer to allocate my money elsewhere...say Ssam Bar or Babbo? (two completely different restaurants, I know :)
Union Square Greenmarket: Best Apple Cider Donuts
I'm a fan of Tree-Licious Orchards, (left-middle of Union Square West) - can't remember which days they're at the market. They sell the doughnuts individually for $.75. The doughnuts at most of the vendors, esp Breezy Hill, are overly greasy and more often than not, dried out.
