Atlanta

I would recommend Rita's Bluebird in Inman Park or Grandma Luke's in Little Five Points as well. Good breakfasts and decent lunches.

Kansas City

Who do you favor for steaks?

Kansas City

Sorry, but I have to stick up for Memphis-style BBQ. KC style is okay, so far as it goes but the best? I'm afraid that's an "eye of the beholder" kind of thing.

Atlanta

I prefer Pastries A-GoGo to Crescent Moon. The service is better and the place isn't so kitcchy corporate. Plus, I think their biscuits are hands-down the best in the city.

Kyma in Atlanta: recommendations both pro & con?

Personally, I would go with Antica Posta down there. If your husband doesn't eat meat or shellfish in restaurants, then Antica's vegetarian pasta dishes should please him. I am not going to sugarcoat it, though - this place is PRICEY. But if you've been frequenting the Buckhead Life restaurants, then this is not going to be too shocking. I personally think it is some of the best Italian in Atlanta. But that's just me and people disagree all the time.

Downtown Atlanta

Honestly, you're in kind of a breakfast/lunch wasteland down there. I would really recommend just getting the continental breakfast at the Hilton, then at lunch going south one block and west one block (that's around the Marriott and then hang a right) to the Pan Asian Bistro . They have decently good Pan Asian there. I particularly like the satay and (when you can get it) the soft shell crab.

Two blocks further south, on the other side of the big AmSouth building is a Chinese Buffet whose name I forget but they are on the right hand side of the street as you come out from AmSouth and cross over Peachtree Street. The food quality is actually pretty good... for a Chinese Buffet. Another block down is Ye Olde Southern Diner. Again, not great, but better quality for the money than eating in the Marriott or Hyatt Regency.

If you want to hike a little more, then there is Haveli Indian over on Spring Street which is about five or six blocks due south of the Hilton. They have a decent lunch buffet for about $10 or so, not counting drinks and gratituity. Otherwise, it's the chain eateries on Peachtree street and those are mostly dive food at hotel prices.

Hope this helps.

Atlanta for 3 days

Depending on your definition of walking distance, there is an indian restaurant relatively close to you. On the other side of the Americasmart building on Spring Street NW is Haveli Indian Cuisine. It's not world-class Indian by any shakes, but it's pretty good and there is a lunch buffet if you are down there during the day. Compared to the McEateries in the Peachtree Mall, it's a godsend.

Also, I would check out the PanAsian Bistro about a block north of you on the ground floor of the SunTrust Office Building. To get there from the Hyatt, go out the back exit by the pool to Peachtree Center St. NE. You should be looking at the Marriot Marquis. Turn 90 degrees left and walk one block. The restaurant should be on the right hand side. It has good service and pricey but nice Panasian food. Avoid the bar directly across from the bistro unless all you want is a beer. Their service is awful and the food does not make up for it.

Hope this helps!

Sweet! That's right over by me anyway. I'll give it a look.

Only ONE Herb?

Cumin, thanks.

For those that do not like Chocolate ... what's your dessert of choice?

I had a green tea creme brulee about two weeks ago. I was not expecting very much, honestly, but it really surprised me. The custard was not overly sweet and the green tea gave it a very slightly astringent, bitter taste. Which sounds awful, I realise, but actually worked well. The custard itself was a pale olive color instead of the usual pale egg yellow. If I can coerce the recipe from the chef, I'll post it on here.

For those that do not like Chocolate ... what's your dessert of choice?

I love working with chocolate. Absolutely adore it. Nothing makes me happier than making chocolate tarts, truffles or anything that allows me to mess with my favorite confection. But all of that aside, I can't stand most chocolates for eating. A taste here or there to make sure that I got the flavor profile right, but that's really it.

For me, nothing beats a good fruit tart. Give me a flaky tart shell filled with pastry cream, fresh fruit sliced attractively on top and coated with an apricot glaze. That's MY idea of a fine dessert right there.

So I have just managed to stumble across ethiopian cuisine thanks to the prodding of a friend in NYC and I am hooked. I have one little place down the street from me (Meskerem on Clairmont Rd. to be precise) and I am wondering if anyone else has a recommendation to make so I can start figuring out which restaurant to give the official good word for.

Sushi in ATL? ASAP!

Then I would check out Circle Sushi (http://http://www.circlesushi.com/) up in the Roswell/Sandy Springs area. They're more expensive than Ru San's but not as much as MF. I've been there several times and found the presentations to be understated and the quality quite good. Certainly better quality than RS. Hope this helps.
