POLL: Can you walk to an actual grocery store?

Central Phoenix here too and there is one grocery store about 2 blocks from my house which has just about everything and several nice independent restaurants withing walking distance too. The weather right now is perfect for walking! But in a couple months it will be brutal.

I assume you are at the Pointe Squaw Peak. There is a serviceable Mexican restaurant basically onsite called Aunt Chiladas, nothing great but not bad. For a New Mexican twist, I would highly recommend the Rokerij/Richardsons which is within a mile of the 51/Glendale area. Try the pork tenderloin with the green and red chile jelly. Fantastic. And just a fairly short walk from the resort, if that is where you are staying. For some hole in the wall mexican food, El Bravo is not far, maybe 2 miles and Via DeLosantos is maybe a mile further. Nothing fancy, just straightforward sonoran style mexican food.

What are the best Mexican restaurants in Phoenix?

Pepe's is 20th avenue, not street.

Also, for a good hole in the wall place is Tacos Atoyac on 19th ave and Glendale.

16th Street & Bethany Home has come alive! Come see, eat, drink, enjoy!

Yes, and their Saturday bbq is a fantastic deal.

16th Street & Bethany Home has come alive! Come see, eat, drink, enjoy!

The area definitely has changed. I have lived in that neighborhood for well over 20 years and it is really different than it was back in the olden days. The Tex-Mex joint you mention will be a free standing Z-Tejas. I believe Richardson's was to open November 1st.
Within say 2-3 square miles of that area is a wide range of foodie offerings including those mentioned above as well as St. Francis and Windsor.

Justin's Ragin' Cajun restaurant in Phoenix

That would not be associated with the old Justin's Ragin Cajun as the original owner has relocated to another city. He is an old friend of mine. The place in north Scottsdale never materialized. I miss that place as much as anyone. It was heads and tails above Baby Kay's.

Searching for good pumpernickel bread

Definitely Karsh's

Guilty Breakfast Pleasures

Cheese enchiladas with an egg on top at Dick's Hideaway. If I don't plan on doing anything with the rest of my day, combine it with a nice margarita or two.

Humble Pie on Groupon today

I didn't use a mobile app either.

Humble Pie on Groupon today

When I opened to print, it does list all 3 locations, however it states "only valid at location purchased"

Humble Pie on Groupon today

I had been wanting to try the Hilton Village location, but I didn't know about the one on 7th Street in Phx. That is much closer to my house, and the only location remaining from Groupon. I got mine!

Good Canolis in the valley?????

Try Niccolis on 16th street north of Bethany Home.

Portuguese sausage in Phoenix?

I believe Schreiners carries it.

Fun post: Fav dishes at Rokerij/Richardson's?

I mostly order off of the small plate menu during HH. The items which I like the most are the bacon wrapped scallops and the crab tostadas. The brie toasts and the tenderloin are also great. I do like the pork chop chorizo off of the regular menu as well. Haven't really had a bad dish there.

This is great! A 3 year old request. I appreciate the response. I went there today and picked some up. And, yes, they are good and they do squeak!

Visits this week - Dillon's, Roberto's Mexican, and La Perla

Sounds great. Can you post location details? Thanks.

phx: the best REAL margarita

I definitely agree with the other posts regarding Via Delosantos. I also think the food is quite good.

BBQ Brisket - Texas style (PHX)

I have been to Hap's on several occasions and never had an experience like that. The staff has always been friendly and I have never had any complaints about the food. I would hope that it just was an extremely bad day that you went.

BBQ Brisket - Texas style (PHX)

Try Hap's on 48th street and Washington. There is also a westside location.

authentic cheese curds in phoenix area

Thank you all for the help. I do remember the cheese shop on Northern too, as I grew up around 7th street and Glendale. But it was so long ago and I don't remember it's name either.

authentic cheese curds in phoenix area

I recall reading about a shop from Wisconsin that recently opened another one here in the Phoenix area. My wife is from Wisconsin and she brings up cheese curds whenever I bring home a chunk of cheese. Does anybody now about this place or any other where I can satisfy her craving for fresh, squeaky cheese curds? Thank you.

Justin's Rajin Cajun

I believe that Justin is working with Jimmy Carlin at Blue Wasabi and that there is still hope for a new restaurant. I really do miss the Ragin' Cajun.
