Pie crust - Evaporated milk - Cinnamon

Hello everyone,
I need some help. I have a left over of unbaked pie crust and evaporated milk. I want to do something like, brush evaporated milk on the crust, put a mix of sugar and cinnamon all over, roll and cut like you would sushi and bake in the over to make some sort of cookies but I don't know exactly what to do.
Like, add cinnamon rather then sugar. Or maple syrup, or I don't know.

It's an idea that started while making pie tonight. I know it's do-able, just not sure how.

I'm doing this to eat while drinking my chai latte tomorrow and maybe bring some to friends.

Thank you.

2 or 3 ingredients recipes.

I recently discovered that you can make very good recipes with 2 or 3 ingredients.

Pumpkin spice muffin (1 can of pumpkin puree + 1 pack of instant cake)
Lemon bars (Lemon custard + 1 angel cake box)

Well, now I want more. I'm in love with the concept of using few ingredients.

Can you help me?

Anything that can be done with 2-3 or maybe 4?

Thank you.

Restaurant Openings in 2011

Don't know if reopening can be added to the list, but "La maison du macaron" will be reopening in a new decor at the end of the month.
Their previous interior were pretty boring, hope it will attract more customers.
They have delicious macarons.

Tournedos of beef

I'm sure it's simple, but, how do I cook them on an oven top, in a pan, and/or in a oven.

Anything simple, and can I use marinade with the tournedos?

also, thank you for the answers for the turkey leg. It turned out great and delicious :)

Turkey leg

Hello everyone,
I have 1 turkey leg in my refrigerator and I don't know how to cook it.

I want something really simple.
Salt pepper only, as I'm going to make salad with it and maybe sandwiches.
The problem is that I don't know about the temperature and time of my oven.

I don't know if I need to cover it with water or not either.
Aluminum foil it or not.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

5 days old steak, Ok to eat?

My grocery store is being renovated and 2 days ago I went and bought steaks. I never have problems with the packing date, but yesterday I noticed that the steak were packed on Sept 25th after they change color sooner than usual.

Are the steaks ok to cook anyways? I know the color change is usually do to the red thing they put in the meat, but I've never waited that long to cook steaks, I've never had problems with the packing date with my grocery store before, hence I'm asking.

Thank you.

Meat don't wanna cook

This is strange but I don't know what to do.

I opened 2 packs of ground beef tonight to make a bunch of recipes for the weekend and I cooked it like I always do, in my non stick pan with a bit of salt and pepper.

Problem is that the meat look cooked, it's brownish but some bits of meat, they are still pink, like uncooked.
So I put it back to cook it some more, and despite leaving it for a while, despite the meat starting to dry from heat, it's still pink!

What would cause that?

Thank you

Gluten Free in Montreal?

I'm not celiac but had to look at gluten free pasta and bread for health reason and Ezekiel bread are a very good alternative.
They're widely available in Montreal too.
The bread doesn't taste too organic or green either, so it might be a good alternative for your friend when she want to eat a sandwich!

Planning a trip to Ottawa

My husband and I are planning a shopping trip to Ottawa this week-end and we're looking for some places to eat.
Coming from Montreal, we're open to anything typically "Ottawa" or must go to that people talk about when they're in town.

Thank you!

Best Macarons in town?

I love the macarons at La maison du macaron. Boutique Europea also have very good macarons. It's on Notre-Dame in Old Montreal. I tried gascogne's macarons but they keep theirs in a freezer and they get all soggy. I called and complained, asked for fresh ones and was told it was impossible to get because they make theirs in advance.
Point G have good ones but they're too sugary for my taste.

Need help to cook steak.

Haha good answer :)

Need help to cook steak.

It's a very basic thing, but my mom never told me how to, and I was a vegetarian for many many years.
My doctor told me to eat more proteins, and I'm discovering the different kind of steak. My problem is that I don't know if what I'm doing is right or wrong.

I start the pan at medium, put the steak in it, let it cook for a while on 1 side, and when i see that half of it is cooked, I put a little bit of salt and pepper, and i switch it to the other side for a while.
I use a non stick pan, but I put a bit of butter at the end because there's this brown thing at the end, and it's delicious. I think it's called sugar?
What else can I put in my pan to deice it properly and enjoy the sugar from the meat with my steak?
Am I doing it right?

Skinned turkey breast: How to?

I have in my fridge a skinned turkey breast and I have absolutely no idea how to cook it.

I usually cook skinned chicken breast in a bit of water in the oven, would that work too? Will the cooking time be the same? I use a small convection oven.

For health reason (Hypoglycemia) I can't use a lot of fat but spices are ok.
It's pretty big too (6inches X 5inches)

Thanks lovely Chow people!

Poivre Noir in Trois Rivieres

I'm born in La Mauricie, and I always loved the restaurants and cafes in Trois-Rivieres. Especially near the fleuve.
I always go to Bravo pizzeria when I go back see my family (Live in Montreal now).
It's the best pizza on earth!
I'll look for Poivre Noir next time I'm in town,
Thanks :)

18% meat protein in meat and don't understand.

I cooked the meat tonight and it ended up being so dry and salty. Tasted nothing like pork. Bleh, never again!

Thanks for your answer.

18% meat protein in meat and don't understand.

So, my mother in law often send food our way that she buys and don't like (...) and this week is "seasoned pork loin center steak" it's from a grocery shop near by with no brand name on it. It came already frozen with some spices in the middle of the steak.

Under the name you can read "18% meat protein"
On the ingredient list, 1st is pork, second is salt, and the the list of spices and a bunch of preservative with names only chemists of this world understand.
What I don't understand is, why did they wrote 18% meat protein?
Isn't meat protein already? or is meat protein some sort of fake meat?

This is probably a stupid question but, I never buy meat already prepared. I always go to the butcher and I see what I buy and if I say "Beef" I know I will get beef and season it myself so I know what's in it.

Also, would the preservative be bad for me if I have thyroid problems?

Thanks Chow people!

What kind of yogurt for smoothie + Blender recipes

What kind of yogurt is it best to use for smoothies? I'm talking, simple smoothie, with no banana/no orange juice, as I have hypoglycemia and can't eat banana/oj!
I just want to put the frozen blueberries with yogurt and some maple syrup, blend and drink to increase my fruit intake.

I can have access to just about any kind of yogurt possible too, so no limit!

If you have any awesome smoothie recipes, please post them, I'm willing to try them all (or change some ingredients to adapt them to what I can eat)

Also, I got a brand new blender for Christmas, and was wondering, other then crushing ice and making smoothies, what other awesome thing can I make with it?

Thank you :)

Would you consider this a bad experience?

I don't wanna be one of those people who rant about a place for no reason, so I wanna ask you your opinion about what happened and you tell me if I'm right to be upset.

Macarons: I've been addicted to them since I discovered them. Always searching in Montreal for the best place.
After searching and testing, I discovered that Europea boutique on Notre-Dame have the best one.
I went there a couple times and was always happy with their selection and they always had plenty, no matter what time I was going.

But, the last two times I went, they only had a few flavor left and not the ones I like.
So, last time, I called to know when they would get the one I love. I was told Tuesday. (of last week)
Comes Tuesday, I call to make sure I wouldn't go downtown for no reason. (I live in the far end of the west-island)
The lady tell me that yes, they have plenty!
I get in my car, drive for an hour, only to see 4 macarons left in the whole store. I ask them what happened and one of the employe inform me that they only have the macarons there left and that she's making small boxes for a special order. I explain to her that I just called to make sure I wasn't coming here for no reason.
She smile and goes back to her things.
I was mad and left the store without answering the other employe who said "Aurevoir"

I wasn't expecting them to lay a plate of macaron for me, but just a "Sorry" or something.

So, is my experience a bad one or I'm just over reacting?

Can I keep cooked eggs in the fridge? How long?

For health reason, I need to eat a good breakfast. Made of egg, whole grain bread and other things.
But, in the morning, I don't necessarily have the time to make an egg, so I was wondering. Can I cook 3 eggs and keep them in the fridge for my next 3 mornings?

I'm thinking, fried egg.

What happened with "Restaurant sans nom"?

I'm sorry I can't help you with this, but I have to say that the name of the restaurant is pure genius!

Bofinger DDO - Normal?

We went to the one at Iles Perrot yesterday (Saturday) to finaly try Bofinger.

We were greeted by very loud dance club whatever it's called dance music (Compared to old rock / blues, jazz in the WI which was SOOO MUCH better and just overall fitted with the Bofinger feeling)
We ordered, and sadly had to stay there while waiting.
But the music was seriously sad to listen to, almost gave us a headache.
My husband ordered 3 ribs, with fries and the original sauce.
He said they tasted really good, he didn't like the sauce and said that they were way too much fat on the rib.
He said something about how the meat was poor quality.
(I wouldn't know, the only restaurant food I can eat is sushi (low blood sugar and auto immune disease))
He said the ribs had barely any meats and he doesn't wanna go back.

Bofinger DDO - Normal?

Tonight, me and my boyfriend went there at around 7, thinking they would finally get meat, but all the chairs were on the table and it was dark inside, my bf was soooo mad! He wanted to leave but I ran to go look at a paper on the door,
It says they are moving and that we have to go to the other Bofingers while we wait.
I'm speechless..

And hanklin, ha! The krispy kreme..
I remember it!
worst place ever for a krispy kreme.

What's wrong with my mushrooms?

Hey, question about white mushrooms.
I buy them, slice them in 4, saute them in a non stick pan, after a little while, put a bit of salt, pepper, and onion powder. and it's ready!
Can't eat butter or margarine for health reason, so, the non stick is important, but for flavor, I will cook them after I cook meat in my pan, for all the sugar to transfer on the mushrooms

Sometimes, my mushrooms will cook and be perfect, with a nice brownish color. Sometimes they will lose a lot of water, and they don't taste as good. Like they lost their juicy and they get small and bleh.. and i also lose the sugar from the meat.

How do I avoid loosing that water? Is there any tricks?

Bofinger DDO - Normal?

The parking is almost always full around diner/supper time, I'm sure a lot of it is for the Fu Lam, but, pizza hut.. always people there..

Bofinger DDO - Normal?

According to their website and the door; they close at 10 on Sunday.
Well, tonight.. me and my boyfriend went there at around 7:30, and we were told they were closing in 15 minutes!
Why? They ran out of meat!
The girl at the counter said: We're good, that's why..
My boyfriend was soooo upset! Because he was so pumped to try them out! And he's a big ribs fan..

Is this normal for them? I mean, one would expect a restaurant to stock on ribs enough for a whole day if they're "that good"

Les continents - Vieux Montreal Intercontinental, Why is it closed?

Does anyone know what's wrong with "Les Continents" at the Inter Continental in the Vieux Montreal?
My husband and I had our wedding reception there 5 years ago and to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary, we wanted to go there but tonight they told us it was closed and we left bummed out, without asking them why they were closed.
