Looking for restaurants that serve Bagna Cauda

I have had it at Supper in the E. Vill. I agree with RGR that it's usually served as a starter of some kind.

Red Cat or The Harrison?

I really, really like The Harrison. I like Red Cat as well, but I think Harrison is better and I have never had anything less than a very good meal there.

You can't go wrong with either.

jody williams + keith mcnally = ?

You may not like them, but considering their pedigree, your description of those chairs is rather dismissive.

Charles and Ray Eames thought they were quite good. But what did they know...

How is L'atelier de Joel Robuchon?

Agree. This is the point I was trying, perhaps inartfully, to make.

Casual does not equal affordable.

I cannot empirically compare prices/values between the Ateliers in LV,NY & Paris (having only been to the Paris Atelier), but I thought prices in Paris were comparable to many of the ** Michelin places there. That's pretty expensive. Whether the NY Atelier is more expensive on an absolute or relative basis, I don't know, but none are inexpensive.

Whether or not any of these are "affordable" seems largely a question of one's means.

Argentine in Manhattan?

I went to Industria Argentina last weekend, see:

Industria Argentina

I went to Industria Argentina last Saturday. I have not seen it get much mention on this forum.

Overall, it was good and a good value.

I started with a grilled octopus salad with potatoes, this was good but not great. The octopus was quite tender but this dish was otherwise pretty straightforward.

I tasted the provoleta appetizer (melted smoked provolone) with oven dried tomatoes, which was also good. This was my first experience with this dish, which is apparently a staple in Argentina. It reminded me of queso fundido.

I had the skirt steak. This was very good, well cooked and very good flavor. Served with chimichuri sauce and another sauce that was reminiscent of mojo. It came with mashed potatoes which were good.

I tasted the grilled, smoked short-ribs which were really good.

We also got a an order of french fries for the table that were excellent - dusted with garlic and herbs.

The grilled meats were all very good. The portions were large. In addition, the menu has more composed dishes but no one at my table got any of those. The prices were pretty reasonable -- I imagine our party of four got out for around $200 with one bottle of wine and no desserts.

The place has comfortable well-spaced tables and chairs and is in a warm but contemporary storefront space on Greenwich Street. It’s a nice looking restaurant.

I didn't scrutinize the wine list (I was not the host) but it seemed to tilt largely (exclusively??) Argentinian and was not expensive. We had an Argentine blend that was good.

The service was good except for a few awkward moments. Everyone was nice. There is a nice looking bar area in the front that had attracted a decent crowd by the time we left.

How is L'atelier de Joel Robuchon?

Good report.

But, who billed it as affordable? If someone not involved in the restaurant said that, it's one thing, but it's not fair to attribute that to the Atelier folks. It sets up an unrealistic expectation.

I have seen nothing that would remotely suggest that L'Atelier is holding itself out as "affordable."

People may argue that it's not a good value or overpriced, or just not good, but I don't think JR is trying to create the impression that Atelier is a dining experience that's affordable.

Otto Enoteca Pizzeria review

While I admit that certain of the pizzas at Otto are disappointing I think it's worth another chance.

There is some consensus that Otto distinguishes itself with things other than pizza. I know it's a pizzeria and that should really be its strong suit but much of what Otto offers is excellent and hard to find at a similar price. Few would argue that Otto has the best pizza in NY.

However, Otto distinguishes itself with its wine list, its vegetable and fish antipasti and its cheese. The carbonara is also very good. The best thing at Otto is the gelato, which I would recommend making a separate trip for.

Your disappointment may have been aggravated further because you seem to think that salumi means salami thus your consternation when your sopressata turned out to be "salumi." Salumi is not "salami" (although salami is salumi). Salumi refers generally to the category of cured meats, not a specfic type of cured meat (salumi is like "charcuterie").

Sorry to be so pedantic.

Salumi also happens to be the name of Mario's father's shop in Seattle.

Province mantou sandwiches

I tried this place yesterday.

Had two sandwiches, one pork shoulder and one short rib w/ kimchi. I thought they were both very good with a slight advantage to the short rib.

There were two guys working, who I assume were the owners, they were very nice. They should start delivering soon.

I hope the place does well.

Dinner near Knitting Factory

I think that Upstairs at Bouley and Landmarc both have better burgers than The Odeon.

I agree that The Odeon burger is good.

I think all the options mentioned in this thread are good. I think Fresh presents the worst value for its likely cost.

Favorite Tribeca Area Takeout

Pizza from Gigino and Indian from Salaam Bombay are probably the best options for delivery. Lombardi's will deliver pizza as well, with mixed results. We order Thai from a place on John Street that's pretty good (name escapes me).

Sushi from Tokyo Bay is not great but passable for delivery. I think Zutto is better but would rather eat there; I do not like Takahachi.

We order Chinese from Lili's but, other than the noodle soups, it is just ok.

There are good sandwiches from 'wichCraft, Bouley Bakery, and Ceci Cela has good croissants.

Suggestions for Ultimate Annual Manhattan Chow Crawl

Otto makes its own gelato.

That's not to say that il Laboratorio is not worth a visit on its own. It probably is.
