Where might I find Kimchi on the North Shore?

Prob doesn't meet your needs at all but there is also a very small Korean store in Salem NH right near MA border. They have homemade Kimchi there as well. Very limited selection other wise on other items

Lobster Prices

This weeks flyer, starts Sunday, says MB has them for $4.99.

Wood for Smoker?

There used to be a guy on Craigslist that listed wood for smoking, pretty cheap by the box I believe.

Gaspar's Turkey Linguica now @ Market Basket

I bought some at the new MB on Bridge St in Lowell last Thursday. Spot on with the crumbly comment. While fairly tasty, it's "good for you" ingredients are apparent. I think my 78 year mom is right, buy the real stuff and eat less.

NH Wine Festival

Does sound interesting, tickets went from $10 to $20 as well.

Who has the best fried clams without beef or pork fat?

I've also heard good things about the Park Lunch fried clams in Newburyport. Can't speak form experience though.

sea urchin

You can buy it in quantity at Hmart.

Deciphering local Chinese delivery

It's definitely a regional thing. I was in San Jose once and ordered Chow Mein, expecting slivered onion, celery and lots of bean sprouts in a white sauce. Instead I got a plate of what we around here would call Lo Mein???, noodles with some veg and meat. They had no idea what I was talking about.

who makes the the best frozen (for cooking at home) Chinese dumplings?

Hard to beat the Spaghetti Factory pork and leek dumplings for 4 bucks at H-Mart

Phantom Gourmet Feedback Forum shutdown?

They got it right when they started running the Three Stooges in the adjacent time slot. The board is a censored waste of time.

ITALIAN IN LOWELL /SOUTHERN NH AREA

Trattoria Amalfi accross the street from Ralphies is outstanding. Very, very rich food delicious. Priced reasonable, Ralphies is also a family favorite, more traditional Italian diner atmosphere. They have a tripe dish there that all the old timers love. Can't speak to Cipresso, but all the others are good choices also. I found Ricardos more of a bistro vibe but still good. We stopped going to Salvatores because we found several times that they use too much salt.

North Chelmsford - 1 Night

I would hit Sakura on Summer street for sushi before I went to Feng Shui. Feng Shui is more of a one stop shopping for Asian food kind of place. I guess if you have some in your party that want Chinese and some that want sushi, it may work.

Being in North Chelmsford, you are also only miles away from downtown Nashua with many options, just do a search on Nashua.

"Food souvenirs" requested

OK, that makes sense, that was my only concern I guess, if she packed them in a pc of luggage no one would know there were live bugs in there and they could end up in an unpressurized hold. Thanks!

"Food souvenirs" requested

So, you're saying any baggage hold in a plane provides oxygen and pressure? I always thought some did and some didn't.

"Food souvenirs" requested

Be careful how you check your "live" luggage, I believe some plans have atmosphere controlled baggage holds and some that are not. You may arrive with dead souvenirs. Depending on the quantity, since you are heading home, check what you would normally carry on and carry on your lobster and crab, best way to ensure proper handling.

Whitefish salad...........

My Costco in Nashua started carrying whole smoked whitefish last month, it was very good.

Looking for a Wine Merchant / Liquor Store Northwest Suburbs

Harrington's in Chelmsford, used to employ a decent wine guy, not sure if he's still there.

Surf/Nashua NH Phantom Gourmet anyone going to be there?

My bad, good opportunity though.

ISO orgeat syrup

Few years back I found this at Harrington Liquors in Chelmsford on Summer St. Haven't been in there for a while, you should call ahead. Let me know how you make out, I had a craving for Fogcutters last week!

Surf/Nashua NH Phantom Gourmet anyone going to be there?

I thought it was TV Diner? I got an e-mail form them yesterday.

Anniversary Dinner in or around Portsmouth, NH

Try Radici, we had my birthday meal there in September and it was delicious. I'd go back just for the gnocchi appetizer, outrageous potato pillows in an awesome cream sauce. There's also a $25 coup out there for 12.50, you could save money there also. Their menu was reasonably priced Italian. I'll see If I can dig up the coupon site, let me know if you need it.

Finding kitchen supply stores?

I lived in the Chelmsford area also and have the same complaint. I now live in Methuen and Linens and Things was our last real option. BBand B is a notch below LNT when it comes to kitchen stuff. How often do you go to Portsmouth NH? I know it seems far but it has a pretty strong foodie scene and some shopping nearby and Kittery over the bridge. Anyway, the last time I was up there I was heading into Dicks Sporting Goods and there's a big Kitchen store next door. It's at this link.

Regrettably I had no time to go in and check it out. The Portsmouth/Kittery area is very easy to make a day trip out of with some great food to boot. Might be worth looking into. I can't honestly tell you what it was like inside though. . .

Reading, MA to get a McKinnon's Meat Market?

What wild game do they have at Butcher boy, fresh not vac packed?

Reading, MA to get a McKinnon's Meat Market?

SS, I had the same experience with the Salem location, took me until just a couple months ago to try them again. I've kept it pretty limited though, I had to start a diet and have been getting boneless skinless chicken breast there for as low as $1.38 since January, and it taste pretty good. I'm not a breast fan either, but that price is hard to beat. Three words, shop the sales, otherwise they're really nothing special.

Now Mike's on the other hand is my red meat shangri-la, I have said it over and over again, (my family is sick of it), you cannot beat a steak from Mike's Red Barn. Just as good as any steak house. You still have to know how to pick them but Billy will hook you up. Their aged club sirloins are delicious, and the same price as well.

Good (and bad) Restaurant Week experiences

Is there a link or site that outlines the participating restaurants? I've never heard about RW, thanks!

Suggestions for Capital Grille

Personally, you're going there for a steak, right?, in all it's meaty goodness. I'd get one of their aged steaks, in the buff. I like the aged strip sirloin, the flavor can't be beat. That with creamed spinach, a wedge and mashies, can't be beat. We took the boys to the Burlington site for my birthday a couple years ago. If it's a special occassion, mention it, got me an outrageous pc of chocolate cake. Also, we asked and they gave us a tour of the meat locker and their aging process, not very glamorous but cool nontheless.

Bad Sushi experience, Sakura Chelmsford

My bad, my reply was solely to the initial posting by Sunglow.

Bad Sushi experience, Sakura Chelmsford

I'm shocked at your report. We've been eating at Sakura since the week it opened. Never, never had a bad meal. We have eaten sushi all over and always end up back there for a dependable meal. We do do a lot of nigiri and special sushi items too. I know Alan personally from spending so much time there. I'm sure he would have corrected anything that you brought to his attention. He takes the freshness of his fish very seriously. I'm going to mention it next time I see him. We'll continue to frequent Sakura
