From LAX to PDX - My week in Portland
Thanks for the advice. Sounds like casual and warm clothes will be in order this weekend!
From LAX to PDX - My week in Portland
My husband and I are headed to Portland from NYC for the weekend. We are planning to try Pok Pok and Le Pigeon...among other spots we hope to stumble upon. This post has been very inspiring. Could you tell me what the dress code is like at these restaurants?
Tijuana Yacht Club @ 63rd and 1st- anyone been?
It just opened this week and has a huge grand opening sign on the door. We haven't seen many people inside. Just wondering if it will be better than the Mexican place it replaced...
Park Bistro tonight - Recs?
We are going to Park Bistro tonight - a party of 6. I did a search and most of the posts for Park Bistro on this site are a couple of years old. Do you have any recs for what to order?
Thanks!
Cinncy Chili
There are two places that I know of to get Skyline Chili in the city.
1. Edward's, 136 W. Broadway, 212.233.6436
Once a month Edward's hosts Cincinnati night. They serve Skyline Chili (ala 3-way, 4-way, 5-way, and Coneys), Montgomery Inn Ribs with Saratoga Chips, LaRosa's Pizza and, most importantly, Graeter's Ice Cream. The Skyline isn't the exact same - in fact the Coneys may be better with this higher quality hot dog - but if you've got a craving, it does the trick. Call ahead for reservations since they do fixed seatings on Cincinnati night.
2. There is a new Cincinnati Bengals bar in town this year. Phebe's Tavern & Grill (359 Bowery at 4th Street). Every Sunday (or Bengals Game Day) Bengals fans take over the bar. After each Bengals touchdown, they sing the fight song...and the bar has graciously started to serve Skyline Chili. They only serve 3-ways though and the cheese and spaghetti aren't exactly the same. But again, if you've got a craving...
I personally don't care for Cincinnati style chili but it is fun to have a little bit of home in the city.
1st Ave and 64th area suggestions?
Here are a few to get you started:
Italian - La Cantina Toscana
French - Cafe Joul - 1st btwn. 58th/59th
Thai - Luscious Thai - a new place on 1st (and 59th or 60th). It is still BYOB so it can be very affordable.
Pub Food - Baker Street - 63rd and 1st
Grocery Store - There's a Gourmet Garage on 64th (I think between 1st and 2nd). It can be pricey but has a decent selection. The large and very nice Food Emporium on 1st is under construction until later this month.
Dinner at Peasant, Orchard, Stanton Social or Tides?
We have a friend coming in town from Chicago and want to take her to dinner tonight somewhere downtown on the East side. We'd like to catch up over a good dinner in a casual environment. We're hoping for something that isn't too fancy or expensive. Also, she isn't very adventurous in the food department. I was thinking about Peasant, Orchard, Stanton Social or Tides. Which do you recommend? We're definitely open to other suggestions as well.
East 50s / 60s for dinner
There's a great little French restaurant - Cafe Joul - on 1st around 58th or 59th. The food is consistently good and the atmosphere is cozy. They have a fantastic brunch on the weekends.
Dinner at Da Silvano
My husband and I are going to Da Silvano tonight with another couple. Any recommendations?
