Need Help with Large Group on Mixed Budget with Several Vegetarians in New Orleans
A group of 11 girls is traveling to New Orleans in June for a bachelorette party. There are several vegetarians in the group and several girls on a pretty tight budget. I have been to New Orleans many times, but most of these girls have not. I would love to give them a taste of New Orleans, but am struggling a bit with figuring out my recommendations. We are staying in Uptown, but will be going to the French Quarter and Marigny also. We are going to be arriving midday Thursday and leaving Sunday.
My ideas so far are:
Breakfasts: Cafe Du Monde (We may just eat breakfast at the house, so no biggie on this one.)
Lunches (Need 2): Casamento's, Johnny's PoBoys, Mena's Palace, Restaurant August for prix fix lunch ( I ate there in April and fell in love.)
Dinners (Need 3): Adolofo's on Frenchmen, Acme or Felix's for Oysters, Napoleon House, Three Muses, Boucherie
Lunch/Early Dinner: Domenica
What should I eliminate? What should I add? Any vegetarian friendly options that might be good fit? I know nothing about vegetarian friendly restaurants in New Orleans. We did eat at the Green Goddess the last time we were there and loved it, but I think it's too tiny for this big group.
Thanks for your help!
Odd request- Help with Solo Birthday Dinner in San Fran
My husband is out of town on business alone for his birthday on a Wednesday in San Fran. Any recommendations as to where someone might have a fun solo birthday dinner? He was thinking of going to Cha Cha Chas in the Haight, but I figured I'd throw it out here and see if anyone had any other fun suggestions. He loves all types of food! Main focus is a fun place to have a solo dinner with a great environment.
Thanks!

We had a wonderful time in New Orleans and ate so much great food.
The prix fix lunch at Restaurant August was the highlight for sure. It was absolutely amazing. Our entrees were the sauteed Gulf Sheepshead and jumbo Gulf shrimp stuffed mirliton which were both incredible. The fusion of flavors there is certainly impressive and the service was perfect. We loved it and can't wait to get back!
We ended up at Coquette the next day for lunch for another prix fix menu. I had the shrimp and grits and while it was tasty, I wasn't blown away. The flavors were much simpler than the ones from August. It was good, but not great for me.
We had the happy hour pizza and also tried several meats and cheeses at Domenica including some pork they raise themselves for the restaurant! It was fantastic. Our waiter was super too. He seemed a little standoffish at first, but ended up just having a super dry sense of humor and we had a great conversation with him about New Orleans.
We loved the Green Goddess also. What a great location, so tucked away, to have a meal!
Everything else was fantastic also including some of our old stand bys- the chargrilled oysters and Gator beer at Acme with our favorite shucker at the bar, roast beef po boy at Johnny's, and barbecue shrimp at Mr. B's. I can't wait to get back!

Yes, believe me. If money was not an issue, we would most certainly be switching it up!

Any opinions on Eat at Dumaine. I love the BYOB aspect in terms of being thrifty and we've never been there. We ate at Adolfo's on our last trip and really liked it though.

Good point! I think Herbsaint or Coquette would be better choices. Any preference on which one? We've never been to either.

Yes, We love Commander's! We went there last visit though, so wanted to try something new this time around.

Date Night in Greenville
I've been to Velo several times. The falafels are delicious. They also have a lot of great bacon inspired sandwiches and they really know how to do bacon! It's a fun place with a great atmosphere. The service can be a little spotty at times. They are trying something different though and I really appreciate that in a place!
Boston for One Dinner and One Lunch Waterfront
and it was Wednesday for us at Neptunes also- we must've been there at almost the same time. I think we arrived at about 6pm.
Boston for One Dinner and One Lunch Waterfront
we got so lucky at Neptunes and Regina- Both places we got right in within 10 minutes, but then watched as a line formed all the way around the corner while we ate. Perfect timing!

Those choices certainly did not disappoint. Neptune Oyster was fantastic. We had the Clam Chowder and Neptunes on Piggyback and then split a lobster roll. Everything was delicious. The Neptunes on Piggyback were especially tasty and a great fusion of flavors.
Pizzeria Regina was no doubt some of the best pizza we had ever eaten. Strolling through the neighborhood was great also. We had the Pizza Margherita and were thrilled with it.

Just FYI- received an email today that Stellar has closed down. Trio is taking over the upstairs as a private event space/ wine bar. Trios is mediocre at best, so I don't have high hopes for this one although the space is really nice.
Trappe Door - Greenville SC: anyone tried it yet?
I've eaten here twice now, once shortly after they opened and then again about 2 weeks ago. The first time I had the Seafood linguine provencale and wasn't that impressed. It was good, but not great and the taste was a bit bland. The second time we ate there though was so much better and it seemed like they had really hit their stride. I started with the Wild mushroom vol au vont and it was absolutely delicious. For my entree, I had the Sautéed duck breast and absolutely loved it. It was cooked to perfection and the flavors were perfect. The waitress was very attentive and helpful, as was the beer expert of the house, Gabe. The beer menu is a bit overwhelming, so we mostly ordered draft and were pleased with our selections. We plan to go back again for our anniversary dinner shortly.
Boston for One Dinner and One Lunch Waterfront
My husband and I are passing through Boston on a quick business trip and we will just have time for one dinner and one lunch. We are staying at the Harborside Inn. We both love all types of foods and just want a great local meal. We prefer not to spend a small fortune and really like places that have a lot of character rather than being too stuffy. I've been reading through the boards and here's what we are thinking:
Dinner- Neptune Oyster- how long might the wait be on a Wed night?
Lunch- Pizzeria Regina
Pick up a dessert along the way at Modern Pastry
How does that sound? Any other suggestions for dinner and lunch that might be better? Any place to pick up a quick light breakfast in case we want a bite before lunch?
Thanks for your help!

Cafe Paulista is fabulous!! You can get discounted gift certificates for it at Restaurant.com The people who own the place are super friendly.
Bohemian has a great brunch, but service can be sketchy at times.
The Pita House is delicious and a great bargain.
Taco Sushi has great sushi. The concept throws you off at first, but it is delicious. They have a great chili cheese dip and their Tataki Tango is fabulous.

Nose Dive - Greenville SC
I ate there last Saturday. I started with the Vegetable Bruschetta which was fantastic. It has giant roasted bulbs of garlic all over it which were delicious. Then, had the NEW ENGLAND LOBSTER ROLL. It was also very good. It's a huge portion of lobster. Ended with the Krispy Kreme Creme Brulee which was very good. It was a little thicker than I normally like my creme brulees, but it was good. My only complaint is that they didn't do more inside to make it feel like a gastropub. It feels just like Restaurant O which was there previously. I wanted a bit more of a casual feel. Overall though, I thought it was tasty, not excellent, but certainly very good for the price.
Recommendation for Saturday Night Dinner in Louisville
My husband and I are coming into town for a concert (Terry Adams at the Vernon Club- He is amazing!!) We would like to eat somewhere not too formal or fancy, but with great local food. We have a car.
I have looked at the Mayan Cafe, Third Avenue Cafe, and Lilly's, but am open to suggestions.
Thanks!

Sunday dinner in Asheville
Thanks everyone! We are thinking now that we may just eat Sunday Brunch at Early Girl or Tupelo and then grill out at our campsite Sunday night.

Recommendation for Eating Alone in San Francisco
Thanks! Are any of these recommendations close to Union Square? It looked like Incanto might be. I will just have one night free for a dinner.
Recommendation for Eating Alone in San Francisco
I will be staying near Union Square, but can take a taxi if need be.

Jekyll Island Georgia
We ended up eating at the Rah Bar again which was super. We had steamed oysters and shrimp and they were both fantastic. The hot butter sauce was so divine. We also ended up at Gnat's Landing in Redfern Village. I was not impressed at all with the food there. We received a recommendation from a local shop keeper to go to Gnat's. We were supposed to go to Crabdaddies and I wish we would have stuck with our original plans!

Jekyll Island Georgia
Thanks for all of the feedback. We did eat at the Rah Bar last time we were at Jekyll and while the food was great, the service was pretty bad. We'll try it again though and stick to the peel and eat shrimp. Willie's Wee-Nee Wagon sure looks interesting. I saw some pictures of the web and we might need to check that out!
Jekyll Island Georgia
Anyone have any recommendations of places to eat on Jekyll Island or nearby? We are going for a week in June. We were there before on Jekyll and didn't get a chance to eat out at all because it was a quick getaway weekend for a wedding, but are really excited to try some of the local cuisine this time!
Thanks,
Danielle
Suggestions for the Admiral in Asheville
My husband and I are finally heading to Asheville tomorrow night to try The Admiral. I have been reading about it on here for a while, so we are really excited. I just checked out their menu and am wondering if there are some "must try" dishes that you would recommend. Thanks for your help!

Anguilla Veya or Blanchards
Also, what is the best way to get around? We will be staying at Cap Jaluca and heard that taxis are outrageously priced. Thanks for your help!
Anguilla Veya or Blanchards
Thanks for the advice. We will be there Thurs-Sun, so will definitely check out Pumphouse and Elvis's at some point I hope. I am very very lucky! You can't beat a free trip to Anguilla!! April can't come soon enough.
Anguilla Veya or Blanchards
My husband and I have won a trip to Anguilla with his company. We are able to eat one night at either Veya or Blanchards. Which would you choose and why? We are not paying, so money doesn't matter.
Thanks for your help!
