Family here from the U.K.

I have family here from the U.K. and they are staying in the city. What are some of the best eating spots i can take them to for lunch and dinner or inbtween meals.

I'm not looking for upscale.

Cheaper end is better. Street food. quick food.no waiter service. However i am open to some restauarants

So far i was thinking, shake shack, grimaldi's, maybe some hole in the wall chinese food. Some FroYo if its nice out, etc....

Frozen Yogurt coming to westchester

I was driving up central avenue a few days ago and noticed some guys working on a store. The name of the place was YogoBerry.

it looked like it was still being finished. I cant remember exactly where on central avenue i spotted it but i think it was somewhere in the Scarsdale section, i think a bit south of curry Acura.

I'm looking forward to having froyo in southern westchester. Anyone else know anything about this place?

Bored guy, what should i eat tonight

I'm bored and have nothing to do tonight and tomorrow. I figured maybe i should venture into the city tonight and have something good to eat (not expensive). Anyone have any ideas on where i should go? places where i can just order and sit by myself are best, as in no waiters...even though i would still consider places where i can only have waiter service. I dont know what i'm in the mood for...

Eating out alone

I'm a 22 year old guy and i eat out alone frequently. I guess i am a rare site, lol. I'm single and i dont have a bunch of friends, and the friends i do have could care less about food....they are the "i just eat when hungry" type. They would never travel more than a few minutes and spend more than 10 bucks on a meal. My relatives are all busy with their significant others.

I like good food and enjoy going out to eat. I also dislike sitting home...so all those circumstances equals to me eating out alone

I sometimes feel akward, but i dont let it bother me. I also dont bring anything to read nor do i sit on my phone texting, etc.. I like to people watch and stare/gaze around my environment.

looking for really good Banana/Banana ricotta tart desserts

A friend and I had the caramelized banana ricotta tart at balthazar for dessert. It was amazing, we liked it so much we are now seeking more banana or caremalized banana ricotta tart type of desserts.

Anyone have any recommendations were we can find a really good dessert like this?

also, balthazar used a banana ice cream with the dessert, does anyone know where i can get this same ice cream? by any chance....

What should i eat at Balthazar?

yeah they are basically like potato chips. they were ok, some of them get soggy in the sauce and actually taste good that way, lol.

Overall i'd say it's safe to swap them for frites....

What should i eat at Balthazar?

So i finally ate at Balthazar! it was great.

I had the duck confit, it was execellent. I ate everything single thing in the dish. It had a nice crispy skin and the meat was dark soft and full of flavor.

My friend had the steak au poivre or however it was spelled. I wasnt impressed with this steak. The cut of beef didn't taste special, and i didn't like the taste of the seasoning/sauce that came on it, the frites that came with it were perfect though.

For dessert we had the caramelized banana ricotta tart. It was amazing, i loved every bite, The taste of the caramelized well ripened banana was very good.

Where to go for Dessert (after dinner)?

so I did end up going to chickalicious, There was about a 15 minute wait. Overall i enjoyed the experience and the dessert, However i didnt find the dessert to be extra special, it seemed just standard with a nice presentation.

What should i eat at Balthazar?

i'm so tempted to order two entrees for myself, lol. I definitely want to try duck confit, but i also want to try something else as well, hmmmm. So is it really worth swapping out the potato chips that come with the duck confit in exchange for frites?

Where to go for Dessert (after dinner)?

i just looked at sugar sweet sunshine but i'm not that into cupcakes. I think i'm more along the lines of ice creams, puddings, and other interesting desserts.

I''m sort of looking for a place like the dessert truck, excpet one that i will be able to sit inside of. I dont necessarily need waiter service or anything...

Where to go for Dessert (after dinner)?

After dinner saturday night i want to stretch the night out. Dinner is early at bout 7. I was thinking of going to a different place to have dessert?

Anyone have any recommendations on where to go and get dessert after dinner? Dinner will be in soho area. The dessert doesn't have to be in that area but being close by is a plus.

What should i eat at Balthazar?

I'm going to have dinner at balthazar this weekend, very excited, lol. The problem is that i rarely dine at nice places. I've also never dined at a french restaurant.

So i'm here to ask for advice on what dishes to order. From the appetizers, entree, and dessert. It would be great if you guys could describe the dish as well since i dont understand the french menu lingo. Thanks! I'll also report back on what i though of balthazar

Wanna be a foodie

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I have another question. What are some other good eats in NYC that are not too expensive. I tend to like carbs. So anywhere with really interesting carb apps and entrees is always a plus

Best time to have dinner?

I wanna have dinner at somewhere nice in NYC (maybe balthazar) in few weeks. I'm gonna make reservations in advance. But i was wondering what are the best times to have dinner?

i want an overall good experience and i'm flexible to eat at different times. I dont mind crowds, i actually like them sometimes just for the ambiance factor, being in a crowded restaurant is sorta fun. However i dislike when the waiter cant handle his load...

Wanna be a foodie

I tend to like foods that are seasoned very well. I like sweet and salty flavors, i also like spicy.
I'm not a fan of fish, i like beef and chicken the best, i rarely get a chance to have pork or lamb etc..
My comfort zone is probably french fries and a burger or roasted chicken with rice and beans. I also like typical italian food but i'm so bored with italian

Overall i'm so inexperienced that its hard for me to say what i do and dont like, my diet has nto had much diversity.. I'm pretty much a blank page at this point lol

Wanna be a foodie

I'm sure the title sounds silly, lol. But i'm an average Joe that loves food, loves eating out. However i know next to nothing about good food and good places to eat. I wanna leave behind the TGI Fridays, cheesecake factory, PF CHANGS, and even mcdonalds routine....

I want to learn about different cuisines and great places to eat. So far the best places I've probably eaten are Rare Bar and Grill, shake shack(lol) and Cafe Habana in the city.

My birthday is coming up soon and i want to eat out like a true foodie would. The problem is i dont have a clue in the world where to go. Normally i would think "applebees or red lobster" but i want to make a change this year.

I'm pretty much a blank page right now. I've passed by Balthazar and that placed seemed intriguing. The problem is reading the menu is almost like chinese to me. I don't understand any of the dishes etc... I wouldnt have a clue what to order even if i went there....

So anyway i'm here on Chowhound to learn to be a foodie. For starters, can some someone give me some tips on balthazar?

Are you the only foodie you know?

i dont really consider myself a true foodie, but i do love to eat. I love good food and i'm the guy who is always looking forward to his next good feast.

I do not know one single person who shares this passion. All of the people i know just eat when there hungry.....no passion for food, they eat the same repetitive typical stuff day in day out. Sometimes i try and get a friend to roll with me to a food spot but i can see the strong disinterest. Sometimes they will come but you can tell its more like they feel obliged since i asked them. For example, a friend once came with me to a top burger spot in NYC, after eating he made this comment "i could have made this at home" with a a tone that implied that he wasted his meal on the burger and fries. Whats funny is that his at home burger is comprised of the following, thawed wonder bread buns from the freezer, generic frozen meat patties, halfway stale veggies, and whatever cheese and sauce is sitting in the fridge door, lol.

At the end of the day i understand, since i'm sure that some of the people i know have passions in which i have no interest. So, for now, i'm the lone eater...time to explore some more of what NYC has to offer. Anyone else consider them self a lone eater?

3 Days, 3 Burgers

lol thanks for bringing me to actuality. I made that comment without realizing that is exactly what shake shake is supposed to be...lol

I guess the differentiation here is that Five guys and rare bar and grill tasted more unique. Five guys more like a BBQ type burger and Rare just like a big beefy restaurant burger that it should be.
