Wasted food due to guest taking too much -- any solutions?

Let it go and say nothing. In time it will correct itself by her taking smaller portions or eating everything on her plate.

Roy's or other Hawaiian food in the L.A. area?

They moved to Redondo and Normandie and the service is terrible. The food has gone downhill some. Went last Sunday. The place used to be Divia's bar. They did nothing to upgrade or refresh the place up like what Bob's Hawaiian Style did when they moved to Western Ave.
They seem more into the after hours of drinking and dancing since they have a full bar with 6 TVs showing sports and a band and pool table area.

Shrimp Trucks?

In Gardena / Torrance (my order of preference)
Bob's Hawaiian Style on Western
The Loft
King's and The Local Place
Island Eats Hale Aina
Bruddahs- located on Redondo Bch Blvd/ Normandie. Gone downhill since new owners took over.

These places serve mostly Asian style food and can not be compared to what you get in Hawaii like Helena's, Peoples, Young's Fish Market and Ono's.

The only thing Hawaiian would be the Lau Lau, Kalua Pork served with lomi and Poi if you request it.

Now if your lumping the Hawaiian style Asian food they serve then that's a different comparison.

As far as Shrimp Trucks go, haven't seen one in the Southbay area.

Visiting Champlin in May

I tried but got over ruled.....

Visiting Champlin in May

Just got back from visiting my brother in Champlin. It's CHAMPLIN not Champlain, as my brother corrects me with my pidgin accent. Boy these transplanted Hawaiians. Just miss all the snow and rain. Even got sunburned on Monday with the temp up to 68 degrees.
Here's what /where we ate- ( I did not pick these places)
Friday- Lunch
Lunch Trucks (12) Downtown MSP -
Ordered from Nordest BBQ Truck - (not on yelp)
Pork BBQ sandwich -ok
Beef Brisket BBQ sandwich -ok
Beef Brisket Taco salad- where's the beef
Brownie- standard
Ordered from Tappanyaki Truck- (not on yelp)
Chicken tappanyaki -ok
Have to try the other truck next time..

Dinner- The Crave- Mall Of America
Sushi Boat and entrees are expensive and portions are small- just ok.

Saturday Lunch - Bulldog N.E. on Hennepin Ave
Hot dish Tater Tots
5 assorted Burgers, Chili Hot dog, Fried Chicken sandwich
Beer and soda
I like the place and would go back.

Dinner- Texas Roadhouse in Coons Rapids
Roasted peanuts- complimentary
Cactus Blossom
2-Fort Worth rib eye steaks
1-Sirloin steak
1- 1/2 rack BBQ pork ribs
1- Fried chicken steak
1-1/2 roasted chicken
Cocktails and beer
no room for dessert
Would go back and maybe try the 20 oz ribeye just for the hell of it.

Sunday- Pot Luck Dinner- Spring/summer cabin at a 3 par golf course
Hot Artichoke crab dip, Teriyaki chicken, Hawaiian Mac Salad, Asian slaw, cheese, sausage, crackers, chips

Monday- Dinner - Enjoy Chinese in Champlin
Cream cheese won ton
Pork Lo Mein
Sesame chicken
Shrimp fried rice
Shrimp with lobster sauce
Beef with oyster sauce
Was ok-My Brother knows the owner so got a family discount.
I'm spoiled about Chinese food since I live in LA

Airplane food sucks so I brought my own sandwich on both flights.

Whole Pig Roast - how to hold it for hours before serving?

Wrap it up in foil and leave a few coals to keep warm. Warning though the crispy skin may not be crispy if wrapped in foil as doing this creates steam within the foil.
You can always crisp it just before serving.

Chinese Sausage

I like it pan fried to eat with eggs and rice or stir fry with veggies like Chinese broccoli. or cabbage. I have friends who have steamed or boiled them.

Visiting Champlin in May

Reason I mentioned Mall of America is I been there several times and have eaten in most of the places there.

Visiting Champlin in May

Just visiting family and I would like to take them to either dinner, lunch or breakfast, but dinner would be 1st.
They probably have their favorites but I would like to go someplace they have might have not gone.
Diners drive in and dives had that bowling place so 45mins to 1 hr drive can be ok and price up to 25 person.

Grew up going to Shimazu so I like it better than most. Lived across Lanakila Elementary school on Kuakini.
Went to L&L before it was L&L on Liliha.
Guess I need to try Uncle Clays.

Are we supposed to be tipping much less than I thought in California?

I live in Southern California and I usually only tip 15%. Less if service was sub-par. I don't care what the server makes that's between him and the owner. I tip because of the service.

Why do people go to All-You-Can-Eat Buffets?

To see if you can eat more than what you pay for and the variety of foods offered.
What I don't get is why do people go to AYCE places and they eat the garbage stuff like pizza, fries, bread, fried chicken, spaghetti, salad bar and jello or pudding?
Shouldn't they eat the high end stuff like the crab, clams oysters (seafood), sushi, meat.

Does anyone remember Cyrano's or Scandia restaurant(s) on Sunset?

Went to Scandia way back in the early 1980's before it closed in 1989. Had to wear coat and tie to get in with reservations. Great food and service.

Hawaiian Sweet Rolls

Yes the Restaurant and Bakery is on Sepulveda in Torrance and King's Local Place on Western Ave in Gardena which next to their Factory just a block north of 190th. The local place is small but they serve food and baked goods. Their Home office building is about a half mile away off of 190th.
Toyota North America is on Western and 190th.

Oil in pasta water yes or no?

Just water and salt and DON'T RINSE the pasta. Save some of the pasta water for the sauce to use as needed.
