Thank you roro. Yes he did have an hour to eat all the oysters. Ok, since you're a friend of the Deanie's family - who is "Deanie" - I like to "collect" New Orleans trivia when I can. Now if I remember correctly their bbq'd shrimp recipe is a secret?

Faves in the French Quarter?

Thanks for the corrections N.O. Food, guess I need to do my homework before replying. I haven't live in Nola in many many years & last time I did it was in the French Quarter. I learned only today from their website today that they were now on Carrollton. And thanks for clearing up my misinformation re their neighborhood/streetcar line - I surely don't want anyone hopping on the wrong streetcar & heading in the wrong direction, including myself when I finally do come home to the city I love & miss dearly.

Rivershack

I'm hearing great things about this River Road establishment as well as their chef - has anyone had the pleasure?

Princsoreo, I know you asked about meals, but every good meal deserves a good dessert. I was going to suggest Angelo Brocato's for scrumptious lemon ice, spumoni & italian desserts to keep you fat & happy (as per edible complex), but they've moved to 214 N. Carrollton Avenue on the streetcar line uptown. You may want to do this while they're "hosing" down Bourbon on Sunday morning (hee hee...).

Maspero's

This used to be such a popular place to go (line out the door & all that...) but reviews I've read lately are not very complimentary. Are they another post-Katrina casualty in terms of food?

Soulcat, do you know what program on the Food Network they'll be featured on? Thanks.

Is there a diner in the FQ where the waitstaff is intenionally rude?

I saw on a travel show that the folks at Central Grocery (famous for muffalettas on Decatur) will give you attitude if you're not ready to order (aka holding up the famously long line), but I'm thinking that's just part of the whole "experience"?

The very BEST King Cake?

Oh my goodness I too went for the cherry piece which was usually gone if I didn't get there in time...Just heard from an old-school New Orleanian that her fave is the apple flavor from Winnnnnnnnnn-Dixie - "The Beef (& now King Cake) People"!

Does anyone know if AB's Feasting on Asphalt is filming new episodes & if so when they'll be aired?

Snowballs.

Well it's not time yet, but soon will be. I'm not sure where this post will go - I suppose favorite stands, folks that ran/run them, flavor...My own happy memory is of the one on Downman Road in New Orleans East - anisette was my fave & the man that ran the place smoked a cigar - sounds strange, but to this day when I smell a cigar I think of that stand & the many warm summer early evenings we spent visiting it.

Geez that's another blast from the past - loved that place too! Yes I'm pretty sure that's where it was.

Panchos is Back!!!

Whoo hooo! I have very fond memories of eating at the one in the CBD 79-84. Did you go to this location? It was a 2 story high restaurant that was decorated to make you feel like you were sitting on a cantina patio in Old Mexico & those cheese enchiladas - yumm! I'll have to check it out next time I'm home. They used to have one in Chalmette that became Hawg's Urban Cowboy saloon where we spent many a Wednesday night drinking longnecks, listening to great local bands and taking free dance lessons - but I digress... Thanks so much for the update - raise the sopapilla flag!

Did anyone watch this show 1/28/09 (Wednesday). The host visited Deanie's (I'm glad they're still there post-K) where he enjoyed his bbq shrimp in the kitchen because he couldn't wait to chow down, Mother's for a Fergie & lesson in debris preparation. Finally, off to Acme where he joined the 15 dozen club - now that was something to watch! Has anyone attended/participated in one of these "initiations"?

Best Place to buy King Cake??

Unbelievably odd as it may sound, I just heard today that the best king cakes come from Wal-Mart...can anyone attest to this? The lady who claims this is a born & raised New Orleanian & she buys her's from the one in Slidell.

Cheese "puffs?"

Hi Puma, I feel your pain - I know how folks can be w/ their secret family recipes! But I am trying to track it down for you from an old friend whose family just put out a cookbook. I checked but it's not in there. I've heard here mention eating them b4 (I'm sure I have too at some point) but not sure if she/family member have made them. I'll do my best - hang in there!

Red Velvet Cake

Hey y'all - I've been curious about this one... We used to buy red velvet cakes (even just a slice) at Lawrence's in Lakeview - was & remains my favorite cake. I lived in TX & CO and they sell them but they are not the same (cake or frosting). Where do y'all think the best come from & is Lawrence's still open?

The very BEST King Cake?

Oh my goodness - I'm new to this site & as an expat am lovin all the food discussion - there's not many where I am now who can discuss the finer points of RBs & king cakes. My 1st (as many of us) was McKenzie's & we liked it just fine thank you! And then I discovered (thanks to my bestest friend's family) Randazzo's in Chalmette - that was it for me. We went there b4 every Chalmette parade we went to. Glad they live on after Katrina!

And I remember the hot sausage (patties) po boys from I think it was Bun & Biscuit in the CBD??? Man I'm ready to come home & "chow" down!
