Summer of rotten tomatoes?

I am replying to my own reply, I was mistaken, the Ananas Noire tomatos that I have grown are splitting a lot but I finally tasted some and they are delicious. I aplogize to the greemarket vendor whom I bought the plants from.

My beefsteak, Brandywine, San marzano and Cherry have fared well. My new variety from US greenmarket called Noir are horrible, cracked and the weirdesr green to red color. I continually pick and 86 them immediately

RAMPS

I saw ramps at 3 vendors this past Saturday. 2 vendors were charging $3 and they were in coolers in perfect shape. The last guy had raggy looking ones for $2.50 out of a van

Going to Scarpetta this weekend, any suggestions?

My wife and I had dinner on Friday ( our first visit). It was terrific. She had the Yellowtail crudo, I had the Fritto Misto and it reminded me of eating on the Amalfi Coast last year.
Then for some unknown reason the waiter brought us an order of the Creamiest Polenta with Truffled mushrooms on the house. It was the most comfort food dish of my life. We then each had a portion of Black Maccheroni with Spicy Seafood which included baby clams, octupus, shrimp and sea urchin. It was sensational. We each had ordered entrees but the Polenta course did us in and the waiter who I had told after the Polenta to give us a lot of time between courses, was able to happily tell us that since the entrees were not yet fired that we could cancell. I was very impressed with that as some restaurants would say that that was not possible once you ordered them. I was surprised of the size of the portions after reading some other postings regarding the Linguine with Tomato and Basil. I am sure that the other dishes will be just as good as the ones which I justed descibed

St. Joseph's day zeppole and sfingi

Caffe Roma on Mulberry and Broome have the best Zeppole di San Guiseppe. Way better than Ferraro around the block.

Russ & Daughters - excellent

I have been going to R&D for 30 years. Everything is awsome. The stuffed trout should be tried but you will need a number of people to be eating it as it is very rich. The Gaspe is great and all the herrings should be tried. However, on my last two shopping trips I have noticed that my favorite herring, the matjes, has been given a different treatment. It is far too spicy, not hot spicy, but too much cinnamon or nutmeg or something like that. My wife and I both could not eat it and we had to 86 it. Has anyone else noticed this lately?

Best place to buy live lobsters?

On the east side of Centre Street between Grand and Hester is the Chinese Lobster Store. They also have live Dungeness Clams, live fish and sometimes live shrimp. The price for Lobster is more after 2lbs. I paid $30 for a 3.1 lb one on Saturday. It was delicious. They have Lobsters up to 6-7 lbs. They also have Live King Crab in season

Good Cheap Brazilian for Lunch

I agree with Xigua. Ipanema at the bar for lunch is a great deal and the portions are goodsized. Get the Fejardo, the Steaks or the Baccala. Baccala on Friday is great and the Baccala on Monday is a different version, baked with potato and onion.

best of times square's little brazil?

Ipanema, I've been there for lunch a few dozen times. It is always good and is like being in a foreign country (brazil) as many of the customers are Brazilian.
