Good Food Near Mauna Lani and Hapuna Beach on Big Island?
Staying at Mauna Lani and have a rental car.
Willing to drive up to 30 minutes
Looking for all types of budget meals no more than $50 per person for a special occasion meal and don't mind getting carryout food either if it's good and would make a nice beach pic-nic
Types of cuisines interested in: Local, seafood, asian, sushi, filipino food (for the moms)
Which days of the week you're interested in Saturday -Saturday stay.
We are traveling with kids 1 1/2 and 3 year old and have an elderly parent with some mobility issues so alot of stairs would be bad.
Our last trip 4 years ago we ate at Meriman's and loved the chocolate bag dessert there. We also enjoyed O's Bistro and Roy's when we are in the main land. My mother in law liked the filipino food in the bowling alley on the big island.
We've really enjoyed the following food on the other islands Alan Wongs, The Pineapple Room, Fish Express on Kauai and the Shrimp Shack on Kauai. We also loved A pacific cafe on Kauai when it was open but not sure if there are comparable eats on the Big Island.

Shikago any recs?
Going to check out Shikago for my birthday dinner. Has anyone been there that can make a rec? I've been to Roy's as well for my birthday but was wanting to try something new.
chocolate cake?
lbs,
Great recommendation for Anna Maria Pasteria! This cake is soooooooooooo good and I previously was a Portillo's fan. Fair warning for those who like the frosting on the Portillo's cake, Anna Maria's cake has no frosting but a wicked good chocolate sauce and fresh whipped cream.
best chocolate suffle` in the chicago area
I like the chocolate souffle's at Roy's downtown. Fresh rasberry sauce is under the souffle and it's pretty consistent quality.
Any great bakeries/ice cream in or near Oakbrook Terrace?
If I'm making the trip what do you recommend getting at the Busybee?

Not sure what you're looking for but the coffee cakes and the coffee cake slices with fruit here were very fresh. I had plum and peach recently and it tasted homemade.

I'm convinced a selection of their desserts is Sweet Street (which are good btw) like the Chocolate Spoon Lovin Cake and the Carmel Apple Pie. I've been told by the owner they aren't Sweet Street but that someone else mentioned Sweet Street to them as well. I'm convinced it's a fellow chowhound.
The atmosphere is nice there but for right now they only accept cash. I suspect they better accept credit cards soon so that it doesn't hurt business. I'm curious if anyone else has tried any of their other desserts that can make a reccomendation. There are 20+choices in their dessert case. My pockets aren't that deep to try all of them. =)
chocolate cake?
If you are going for Swedish Bakery's chocolate cake go for the chocolate fudge cake not just the plain chocolate.
Croissants downtown?
Fox and Obel has croissants off Grand across from the AMC theatre as well as Sarah's Patisserie and Candy off of Oak Street.
Looking for great cake near Naperville for Saturday
I'm bringing a cake to a baby shower in naperville and my girlfriend likes chocolate cake with strawberry filling and whipped cream icing.
I can't go to a chicago bakery and drive out to her b/c I don't want the whipped cream to go bad in transit. She lives an hour and a 1/2 away. Any suggestions for a bakery that's within 30 minutes of naperville?
Best cupcakes in town?
Sarah's does have great chocolate cupcakes and I actually like them with the chocolate buttercream. It's not too dense it's a lighter buttercream.
Ideas for lots of rosemary
I had a recipe for a rosemary coffee cake. Sounds gross I know but it was a nice change. I'll try to find it.

They have good cupcakes with chocolate icing of course. Haven't gotten a chance to try the chocolate croissant's but another posting somewhere here said they were good. Great coffee too.
Best Pizza in Chicago?
Haven't been to Giuseppe's but Lou's is delicious. I'm a fan of the deluxe it has sausage, green peppers, mushroom's and onions. The cookie dessert with icecream is pretty tasty as well. I also like their minnestrone, might be considered saltier than others. The minnestrone has a chicken broth base and some bits of ham or pancetta in it.
Peruvian suggestions?
Rinconcito Suamericano's chicken kabob appetizer is delicious. I order the chicken appetizer with a side of rice and have enough for a meal. Dark meat chicken but it's really tasty.
Driving from Boston to CapeCod any must stops? [Moved from Boston board]
They are staying in sandwich and provincetown if that helps...
Driving from Boston to CapeCod any must stops? [Moved from Boston board]
A friend and her husband are driving from Boston to Cape Cod and staying in the Cape for a I believe 4 days to celebrate a wedding anniversary. I'm looking for a variety of must eats. Not interested in low end versus high end if the food is great.(just need a heads up it's $ versus $$$$. Italian is a favorite and any American seafood style places. Open to other cuisines as well. I haven't been to Boston in years and never to the Cape so I thought I'd enlist some help for recs. I'm sure they'd want something special for their anniversary dinner so I was going to make a reservation if possible for them as a surprise in Cape Cod.
1st time in Chicago, SD hound ISO bougatsa
I love both Pegasus and Artopolis now I know why. I'll be checking out that stand in Midway next time.
Sticky Buns
Quite a drive but Silborne's in vernon hills has great sticky buns in the a.m. great first thing when they open. They will microwave them for you as well if you are eating them there if they've been out of the oven. I used to work in the area so I'd go often but haven't made a trip out there otherwise.

ISO: Horchata in a bottle (rice drink)
I haven't been to Spain in almost 10 years and guess who's craving authentic horchata now. How many lbs of chufas do you buy when you are making horchata and how long does it keep in the fridge? Does it freeze well? I'm guessing it seperates...but I dunno. Thanks for posting this even though it took me 3 years to look at it!
Absolutely Amazing Waffles in Chicago
Have to agree with nsxtasy..the chewy are great with the gelato they serve. I had a chewy one today with the cappuchino icecream and was very happy. They are warm chewy/doughy inside but I like them. They also offer crispier waffles too. They also have European nutella to go with them which is better than what you can get at your local grocery. I wish they had fresh strawberries and vanilla gelato then I'd be there alot more.
Update on Gene's Diner Recommendation
Just discovered this place recently on a quest for Hoosier Mama's pie. I like the pecan pie so had to make a trip to this diner in the city. I was pleasantly surprised by their homemade new england clam chowder I'm certain contains whipping cream (not to it's detriment). I've been dying to try the softshell crab po'boy but they have been out on the occasions that I've stopped by. We also had a seabass dish with an garlic and anchovy paste (I know sounds gross but the waiter recommended it as his favorite) and it was prepared well and tasty. I'll be back to try brunch.
where to eat dinner in Park Ridge?
I'm a Zia's fan as well and have been to Pi'ano Piano if torn between the two IMHO I would go to Zia's.
Little Pie Company Hell's Kitchen
Got the pie sampler myself. The sour cream apple walnut pie it da bomb! I need a recipie b/c I can't keep forking over money for shipping that pie to chicago!
Eat it while you can if you're a local! Warm it up with vanilla icecream it's heaven!
Edison Park
zia's tratorria is good and reasonably priced for italian food. They usually do a good job with seafood dishes as well. There a pasta dish with an assortment of melt in your mouth tender beef and sometimes they have softshell crabs on special. I'm happy with a nice dish of the pasta arrabiata with angel hair and an appetizer as a meal.
Chewy homemade noodles at Katy's Dumpling House.
The dum dum noodle soup was really delicious. This location was featured on hungry hound recently and the the dum dum soup has noodles, spicy ground pork, and fresh spinach on top. The dumplings weren't bad as potstickers but I wish they had a better sauce to go with it.
Johnnie's Beef review -- good beef but underwhelmed
IMHO you gotta get the combo for the full Johnnies expierience. If you like char grilled italian sausage. Just a plain beef isn't worth the trip for me anyway. I'm not a huge fan on fresh cut fries b/c often times vendors can't execute them crispy I find. But I don't think the way the security guard approached you was appropriate at all...
In Search of Sweet Brown Sticky Rice
I'm trying to make a healthier version of the dessert found in Thai restaurants for sweet sticky rice and mango. Has anyone actually seen sweet brown sticky rice in the store? I've tried a couple of asian markets with no luck and would like to save time instead of driving around more.
Thanks!
