road trip from Raleigh to Ashville(lunch and dinner spots)
Delancy's in Burlington is an excellent meat and 3 type place.
Shrimp Burger in Charlotte
Go to Price's Chicken Coop and get some fried shrimp and cole slaw, add some buns and voila! Not El's or Big Oak for sure, but better than hospital food.
Greensboro NC - non-chain for Sat nite
Liberty Oak or Southern Lights Bistro would be good choices.
Review of Dining in Charleston and Myrtle Beach - LONG
What kind of "oyster roast joints" does Myrtle Beach have?
is there an equivalent TRAVEL site like CHOWHOUND (we need a "TRAVEL-HOUND" site)
I'm not just talking about shills or spam, but the actual quality of the information. Not all posts on CH are high quality.
Good but affordable itallian in charlotte?
Vapiano, Uptown, is very good and reasonable. Its also very casual, almost cafeteria like, in a way. But the food is very good.
Charlotte dinner- fun atmosphere excellent food
HMG gets somewhat mixed reviews. I like it a lot. Here is a post that encapsulates most of the opinions:

One other option I just thought of is Cajun Queen, if cajun/creole food is an interest.
Where to get the best Shrimp and Grits in Charlotte
Cajun Queen makes a very nice version.
Charlotte dinner- fun atmosphere excellent food
No, sorry, I haven't. It literally just opened last week or maybe earlier this week.

I'd suggest Lulu, on Central Avenue (near the aformentioned Bistro La Bon...and there's nothing wrong with the neighborhood). Also Rooster's, which is very close to your friends house. If you want to/are willing to go Uptown (Charlotte's "downtown") there is Halcyon (might push your budget a bit), Harvest Moon Grille and Malabar (tapas...great paella, fun for friends to share).
Whole Ostrich needed. I am looking to find one to cook.
He likes to eat. Animals. Many people do.

Equivaient in that people post reviews. The quality and veracity of those reviews, on all such sites, is always subject to question.
Best Chain Breakfast?
There's been times I've gotten in and out of Waffle House quicker than McDonalds.

I-85 to I-77 to I-81? If so, be aware that this board only covers the GA, SC and NC portion of your trip. For the rest, you'll need to post on Mid-Atlantic, Pennsylvania, etc.
Any particular type of food, restaurant or price range you are interested in? How far off the highway are you willing to go?
If you do a search for the highway numbers and towns you pass through, you will no doubt find lots of previous posts with useful information, for example:

Near the intersection of I-77 and I-40 in Cleveland, NC is a wonderful roadside shack called Keaton's. They feature a delicious and unique style of BBQ chicken.
NC now allows rare burgers!
The NC Commission for Public Health has adopted new rules that now allow restaurants in the state to legally serve burgers rare. I think the new rules go into effect on July 1. Here is an article from the Wilmington Sun about the change:

Richmond, VA to Asheville, VA - I 81 - Looking for some great places to eat along the way
Ok, that makes more sense to me...I-85 to I-40. Some places I like include Allen and Son BBQ, near Hillsborough, NC, Keaton's near Statesville, NC for BBQ chicken (check their website for hours of operation), Delancey's in Burlington for home cooking, and Yum Yum in Greensboro for hot dogs and homemade ice cream. Depending how far off the highway you want to get, you can search on this board for "Greensboro" and "Winston-Salem" and find lots of suggestions in those cities.
Richmond, VA to Asheville, VA - I 81 - Looking for some great places to eat along the way
Can you be more specific about your route? I-81 doesn't run through either Richmond nor Asheville. Also, NC and VA are on separate boards, so you'll need to post on the Mid-Atlantic Board in order to get recs for VA.
You can also do a search that will help you find previous posts concerning the same topic. For example, here are some posts from the Mid-Atlantic board concerning I-81:

how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]
And I was agreeing with you, and buttressing your point. :-)
how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]
Most of the cash only places I'm aware of probably have an average check size under $10. They tend to be old line hot dog or bbq joints or small, inexpensive diners.
Hospital Food----My how it's changed>>>For the better
My wife is a hospital administrator and our dinner frequently consists of take out from her hospital cafeteria. Its pretty good and amazingly inexpensive. There is a large group of locals who have sunday brunch at the hospital, as if it is a restaurant.
Flying with frozen boudin...
You need to have it packed in dry ice and either check it or ship it to your self.
how do you handle this??? [Moved from New Jersey]
Yes, I'm aware of many, but few have average per person check in the $25 range.
Flying with frozen boudin...
How long a flight? Do you want it to still be frozen get you get home?
