Help me, Lazyweb! What should I have for dinner?
Aroma Cafe In Studio City back patio ...room to run around and chase the birds ...cute gift shop with kids books etc.
Chile Verde
I am really surprized the pork was dry and you got so little of it......it has been my experience that the pork is very juicy and tender and there was so much of it ...I took the rest home for lunch the next day....if you try it again ...Iwould let them know about your last experience and have them make sure it doesn't happen again.
Reasonably priced Santa Monica options
Buddhas Belly ...great Asian food
Three Squares ...on Abbott Kinney.... great breakfast lunch and dinner and bakery
The Rose Cafe...great breakfast or lunch
17th St. Cafe on Montana...
Cafe Dana on Montana
Tacos Por Favor
Sushi King on Wilshire
Kay and Daves across from Brentwood Country Mart on 26th st.
All of the places I mentioned are fairly non-touristy...kid friendly ...really good reasonably priced food and casual.
Best Sandwich at Bay Cities?
I love Italian hard salami, imported swiss with "the works".
Best place in SFV for affordable but good salmon for me to smoke
Costco always has a huge supply of salmon filets . They are always fresh and good. ....Safe and Save is the name of the market on Sawtellle that Foodandwine mentioned.
Anyone been to Sushi King Lately?
Hide is not closed on Thursdays as far as I know . I have been eating there for thirty years and the only day they are closed is Mondays . I like Sushi King also , (the owner Saito used to work at Hide.) Their calamari is the best in the city. I have found both places to have very fresh no frills sushi. Sushi King has a larger selection and in season does a fantastic oyster shooter.
falafel/shawarma stands
I have never had dry meat at Skafs although at every restaurant I go to I do ask for red meat rare and the chicken moist or I can't eat it. Skafs has always acommdated me and I have never been disappointed. Sorry I didn't mention that before.
midmorning spot in downtown Santa Monica?
17th street cafe on Montana has good breakfast and lunch choices, Fromans on Wilshire , The Rose Cafe , Marmalade on Montana Ave, Three Squares on Abbott Kinney Blue Plate on Montana Ave , Cafe Dana on Montana Ave. Most of these places have easy parking and really good food.
falafel/shawarma stands
Skafs on Laurel Canyon and Oxnard ....excellent shawarma , hummos, and falafels. Actually I like just about everything there.
where can i find a new jersey style diner in so cal
Blue Plate on Montana Ave in Santa Monica has really good American coffee shop (diner) food.
In North Hollywood there is a great American food diner called Eat on Magnolia near Vineland. Neither place is open 24 hrs but the food is great at both of these places. They removed the grease from greasy spoon.
Best Armenia and Persian Makets,
The market I am recommending is not Persian but they have the best selection of fresh and unusual ethnic ingredients from all over the world I have seen under one roof....mostly Middle Eastern . Everything you would ever need for any Persian or Armenian recipe is there. It is Cambridge Farms on Burbank west of Laurel Canyon. When I lived in Santa Monica I would go to Tehran Market on Wilshire near 14th. Also good but about a tenth the size of Cambridge Farms.
Party in Santa Monica
I have done several parties at Typhoon located at the southern end of the Santa Monica Airport The food is served family style like in most Asian restaurants. The atmosphere really lends itself to a fun party with a full bar . There is a sushi restaurant upstairs called The Hump. The Ma La dumplings are outstanding as an appetizer. If you are planning to pick up the whole tab...it's less expensive than everyone ordering separately. If you are interested I can tell you what my favorite dishes are there that are always a hit.
Where should I go for lunch today
It's such a beautiful day ........The Rose Cafe in Venice has a sit down section in the back where you can be served. The outside patio is so pleasant and the food is light and healthful . I'm sure both of you could find something on the menu that would just hit the spot.
Virgin Sushi Eater
I have taken many first timers to Hide Sushi on Sawtelle north of Olympic. The fish is always fresh ...it is a straightforward no frills traditional style sushi bar. They are open from 11:30 am until 9:00 pm Tues through Sunday. Sit at the bar ...the sushi chefs are friendly and patient. Its fun to talk to people sitting next to you and ask what they are eating . I have been eating there for thirty years and have never been disappointed.
Hamantashen fillings
Cambridge Farms on Burbank west of Laurel Canyon has several fillings for hamantashen. I just happened to notice them the last time I was there a week ago. I love this market ...especially if I am making middle eastern or eastern European recipes . Their prices are great and the selection of hard to find ingredients is unsurpassed. The kosher bakery next door is also one of the best around. Have fun....!
Easy dinner between downtown and mid-city
Marouch on Santa Monica Bl. near Western...excellent Lebanese food .....moderately priced ...I"d go there all the time if I lived closer.
Rec Needed for Affordable Restaurant, 8-12 people
I suggest kay and Daves on Pico near Beverly Glen. It is healthy Mexican food and they have a full bar. They can easily accommodate your crowd ...they even have a private room. Everyone I've taken there has really liked it. It's fun and affordable. The interior is comfortable and very pleasant to be in. Century City and West Side Pavillion for movies are both less than three minutes away. There is valet parking and parking on the street if you can find it.
Does anybody remember Stats restaurant in Beverly Hills?
Thank you for the suggestion but it was really the combination of the char grilled flavor and the grilled garlic roll and also the texture of the roll which was grilled on one side with garlic butter that really made this outstanding.
Does anybody remember Stats restaurant in Beverly Hills?
There were two locations ...one on Wilshire Blvd. near Doheny Dr.....the other on Pico near Palm Dr. They were around until the early seventies. I have memories of a char broiled burger they made and it was served on grilled garlic bread made on a sourdough french roll. I haven't found anything close to it since. The combination of flavors was outstanding...it came with their house 1,000 island and needless to say a memorable burger. Can anybody suggest a place to get something comparable?
Which is best out of these ocean view restaurants??
Paradise Cove has lots of seating indoors windowside and out right on the sand.....It's fun and romantic .....decent food ... That would be my pick
With Uzbekistan (the restaurant) closed, it's time to try Tashkent Produce in NoHo
I love this place...one day I needed to buy some water (how boring) so I decided to stop in at Tashkent figuring they would probably have water and this would be a fun adventure. I had a similar experience to yours...the hot food in the back was already out...(must have been past 3:00) I tried several items ....found a jar of some of the best pickled beets ever.bought some herring ,and almost forgot the water. I too sat in my car and tried a few of the items....I've been back several times since . Most times I was the only American in there.
Great real deli in LA?
I agree Das...the pastrami should have some fat...Juniors does not have good flavor or texture .
Where is the Best Rye Bread in town?
It does work ...I do it all the time and the crust gets crunchy and the bread is not soggy....you only sprinkle water on the foil ..try it sometime.
Where is the Best Rye Bread in town?
I love that bakery ...as a matter of fact I'm going there in the morning to get bagels and biallys for brunch....they have an onion rye which is also insanely good.
Looking for nachos with cheese sauce
Vallarta Markets specialize in Mexican ingredients and food . If anyone would carry that...it might be them...you can ask someone who works there the ingredients if they don't have it premade.
Where is the Best Rye Bread in town?
You can have them slice the bread ...when you get it home sprinkle some tin foil with water ....wrap the entire loaf of bread in it and heat for about 10 to 15 min. at 350 .You should be able to get a good result with that.
Great real deli in LA?
I don't mean to rude but if you like the kreplach at Juniors you have never tasted good kreplach. I wish there was a deli who made good kreplach....I haven't found one yet. Factors is just ok...Arts used to be good ....their prices have gone insanely high now and the quality just isn't there. The last time I was there my daughter and i each had a sandwich and a soda...the bill was over fifty dollars with tax and tip. I'm staying away.
Where is the Best Rye Bread in town?
I believe the reason Langers rye is so good is the second baking they give it .It's really the textures that make it so good.
