la part des anges

All I know of "la part des anges" is that it refers to the making of cognac! The by-product is left for the angels...If you had time (five days is short) a trip to Cognac would be fun!

Heading to Mystic CT(staying in Groton) with 2 kids

I keep intending to, and keep ordering the tartar and calamari. One of these days!

Heading to Mystic CT(staying in Groton) with 2 kids

The Bouillabaisse at the Dog Watch is one of my favorite meals. From the very beginning Dog Watch was a hit- great food, great atmosphere and great service.

I'm guessing with kids this age you're heading to the Aquarium. Lunch is delicious and reasonable there at Penguins Cafe. Make sure you ask what Chris, the February Employee of the Month, has for soup of the day, or if there is a special dish of the day. You'll have a great time and meal.

Well, I hope you get to try the gelato in the summer!

There is another, and I think better, ice cream shop in town, across the street and a few doors away from the river. Can't think of the name, but you can't miss it. In the summer they offer really, really great gelato.

I agree with the others that the the Bravo/Azu/Olio group are wonderful!

Favorite places you've lived outside the USA?

Southwest France in the early '80s-Bordeaux and Arcachon. I'm lucky enough to return every year. The food and wine are still wonderful, but the French are getting heavier! I see a lot more fast food than before, including a terrible chain called "Flunch", which stands for "Fast Lunch". So sad to see that change in the culture!

Go to Go Berry in Northampton, MA

Well, you are in for a treat! The soups are always great, healthy, sometimes vegan and always delicious!

Go to Go Berry in Northampton, MA

Great soups there, too! This mild winter has made it fun to keep eating their soup, followed by a Caribbean flavored yogurt. Wonderful!

Sunday and Monday in the 7th, pas trop cher

"the Chirac dynasty" made me laugh! Thanks for all the great advice and the humor too! I didn't expect to to learn about theatre L'Atelier or poulet au gingembre and will have a better visit because of them. Merci!

Sunday and Monday in the 7th, pas trop cher

Great! Maybe we'll head there for some chinois and hope to see my idol! Thank you!

Sunday and Monday in the 7th, pas trop cher

I'll need to stick close on Sunday, because that is when I arrive, and I do not travel well! I will definitely visit Musee Rodin on Sunday, as it is closed on Monday. Merci beacoup for your recommendations, especially le theatre L'Atelier.
Vive Catherine Deneuve!

Sunday and Monday in the 7th, pas trop cher

I searched, but but didn't find much, apart from La Dernier Meto (one of my favorite films)!

6/11 Mystic Area Great Food?

I love the Dog Watch. Can't get enough of their tuna tartare, followed by the bouillabaisse. Nice wines by the glass at reasonable prices...I'm always too full for desserts so I can't comment on those!

Aquitaine !! Wheeeeee !! Arcachon food suggestions.

For local, great food in Bordeaux try Restaurant Fernand on the quais next to Place de la Bourse.

Aquitaine !! Wheeeeee !! Arcachon food suggestions.

I'm excited for you! I lived in Arcachon many years ago, and have visited almost every year since. The "Criee" (the daily morning fish market) at the Port de Peche is extremely cool-have fun. The marche is really great in Arcachon-last time I visited it was being held in a tent by the train station while the regular covered marche was under construction. Check it out for picnics and meals in your apartment. I think it's held on Wednesdays and Saturdays. I haven't been there in summer for years, and would dread it if you weren't located within walking distance of everything, but you're all set! My favorite resto is Chez Yvette, which is cozy in winter, but I'd probably prefer a terrace in July. If the traffic isn't too bad I'd pack a picnic and take the road to Biscarrosse to a bluff to watch the sun set into the Bay of Biscay, and watch the fishing boats return into the Bassin.

Arcachon oysters are wonderful! Like all fisheries, there are times when things are off limits, but they come around again. I like the Marennes and Olerons oysters from La Rochelle too, but I wonder about the "R" month rule.

Sorry I can't help you with the C-D-P wine-I'm a strictly Bordeaux girl! Have a ball in one of my favorite parts of the world!

rec`s to make a dream come true

Captain Scott's in New London, about 45 minutes from New Haven, is a great lobster-on-the-dock spot. Abbott's also does whole lobster meals, but it's gross. Granted, the view from Abbott's is gorgeous, but the food is terrible. Go there for a cup of coffee and beauty afterwards, but head to an ice cream shop in Mystic for dessert!

De Wolf Taverm?Tucker's Bistro?

The Chart House is still there?

MYSTIC PIZZA

I actually prefer Pizzetta pizza to Mangos, but Mangos' pizzas are OK, a huge step above Mystic Pizza's. I will say that salads at Mangos are great-my favorite is Cindy's Salad-greens, craisons, gorgonzola, walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette.

Need recommendation for 2 nights in St. Emilion in May

Maybe consider renting a car for the Spain-Bordeaux leg of your trip? It is a beautiful drive in May with so many options for stopovers, spur of the moment degustations and exploration. If not, Libourne itself has its own charm and history!

Saturday Lunch in Northampton

GoBerry on Main Street serves really wonderful soup and the best frozen yogurt in the world!

Need recommendation for 2 nights in St. Emilion in May

There's a cool little place called Bar Amelia that we like. They serve traditional regional food at very good prices. Make sure to try the macarons in town-they are wonderful. My favorites are from the little shop on the right as you walk dow the steep hill-I wish I could think of the name. Two days might be a little long for St. Emilion-it is tres petite! Also, on the outside of town, where you park there are some stone tables that overlook the rooftops where we've had some amazing picnics. Have a wonderful time!

La Rochelle, Ile de Re

Looks good, thanks for the recommendation!

La Rochelle, Ile de Re

We'll check it out! Thank you!

La Rochelle, Ile de Re

Is there anything new and exciting there? Merci d'avance!

wood-fired pizza

I had lunch at Mango's today! The crust was underdone, but the toppings were tasty. My "Cindy salad" was wonderful. I far prefer Pizzetta, in downtown Mystic. Always a perfect pizza!

Mango's in Mystic?

Hello-Has anyone tried Mango's Wood-Fired Pizza yet?

Saturday lunch near Mystic Seaport

Anthony Js is a nice, quiet Italian place near the Seaport. I haven't been in a bit, but the food used to be very good. I think Stuck is referring to the S&P Oyster House. Nice spot, but I'm not a fan of the food. Enjoy Mystic!

Paris at Christmas: Worth the trip?

Hot chestnuts from a street vendor while window shopping restaurant menus...I love Paris a Noel!

Bordeaux

I love Arcachon! Chez Yvette doesn't have a water view, but does have great food, which is more important! In Bordeaux, next to the cathedrale is Bistro du Musee, where I had the best mussel bisque of my life. Further afield in St. Gervais is Au Sarment, one of my favorite restos in the world. Try to get a table in the garden! Have fun, and please report back!
