Oceanos ...Fair Lawn

I can't agree here. I've been here twice in the last year and have been highly disappointed both times. Lets start with the room, definately needs a remake. The service was very good both times. The food, in my mind was just not good. I had scallops in vanilla the first time and the vanilla just overwhelmed the bay scallops. The second time was a salmon dish that was so salty that I couldn't finish it. This not how I remember it from previous times that I ate there. Mykonos, though not a seafood place, is a better choice these days.

Not Happy With Fairway

Not just one store, but three stores within striking distance(Paramas,Totowa, and Nanuet). They have plenty of prewrapped cheese also, not for me. The cheese counter is nowhere as good as when these stores opened up, but its got enough selection to keep me happy.

Not Happy With Fairway

They do that with the "supermarket quality" cheeses at the Fairways I go to also, but have a decent selection at the counter. I got a dry aged Shell Steak that was hand cut for me, maybe the best steak I've had this year, restaurant or done at home. I not defending what they've done with these stores(it sucks)but they do have things that you can't get at other stores in the New York, New Jersey suburbs.

Not Happy With Fairway

I agree with most things said about Fairway, But there are a number of things that make it worthwhile to go. Lately House brand EVOO in three liter cans for $14.99-$19.99. House organic milk for 3.99, it's not ultra pastuerized so the use by date is much shorter than supermarket organic milk. A decent butcher that will actually cut meat for you and good prices on prime meats when on sale
A good selection of cheese(not as good as it use to be)that they will let you taste to your hearts content. The chocolate bar selection is also pretty good. Bob's Red Mill selection is as complete as you can find pretty much anywhere. I shop at Totowa and Nanuet and skip Paramus because of higher prices and a smaller selection,

Salt Sticks

They are always available at Rockland Bakery(just up Rt 304 in Nanuet, NY). They also have onion boards fairly regularly.

Chengdu 46 has been closed for years. Its called Lan Shen 88. We went for Dim Sum on Sat(my third time) and will not be returning. Dinner there(not Sichuan) was good the 1st time and not as good the 2nd time. I should have known better. Joyce in Riveredge has also been put on the "do not return" list.

Louro closing

I think they bought the previous lease and landlords can pretty much do what they want concerning leases.

Don't waste your time with Joyce. It's no better than takeout Chinese. I'd give Mighty Quinn's a shot. I liked the beef rib.

Anybody tried Habit burger?

Except for the parking situation, one of the better burgers around. Went for lunch last week and ordered 1/3lb burger with fried onions and cheese along with onion strings. The burger came out perfectly cooked and the onion strings were oniony, salty and crisp. Good selection of beers on tap. Large rectangular bar, booths and tables.

Anybody tried Habit burger?

Went yesterday for lunch. Great beef burger(1/3lb) and onion strings. They prepare your burger exactly as requested and there is unlimited drinks. I'd give it the nod over shake shack for quality and ease of eating at the location in Clifton. BTW they have tap beer and mixed drinks.

USA Yogurt Recommendations

Why not just make your own. Its a simple method(just google it), plus its much cheaper and you can control what goes into it. In NJ I can buy a gallon of organic milk for $5.99 and a starter cup of organic yogurt for a $1.50. This gives you 10 servings. Save the last 4oz for the next batch.

Mitsuwa Edgewater NJ sashimi quality

Premade sushi is poor anywhere you get it. Having said that I like the quality of their "sushi" grade fish that they sell.

Looking for the Best Northern NJ Cheese Shops

I love Maywood Market, but you can't taste any of the cheeses and you have to be careful, some of the wrapped cheese are a little old.

Jersey barbecue freaks prepare yourselves - Mighty Quinn's to open in Clifton

We live close by and have been a number of times. She hits it right on the head. They need to do some work on the BBQ. I found the beef rib very tough, but the burger was good. BTW the beef rib at Mighty Quinns was great but expensive at $23.

Sticky's Hillsdale

Got takeout on Sat. The place was packed. Called the order in was told 30 minutes . Got there 30 minutes later and waited 30 minutes for the food to be ready. Ordered beef ribs and got sliced beef, which was tough. So were the pork ribs. Asked for no sauce, everything was swimming in it. None of the meats we ordered seem to be cooked enough. The sides were good. They have got a lot of work to do.

But your in for $35-$40(tolls and parking) before you get to the resto. Besides the parking hassle.

Where are the Northern Jerseyans?

N.E Bergen
Davey's and the new 15 Grand in Montvale for excellent burgers
Grange in Westwood for "new American"
Osso Buco in Hillsdale for red sauce Italian
Almost any where in Pal Park or Ft Lee for Korean food.
Gen in Woodcliffe Lake for sushi
Karavalli in Nanuet(NY) for top notch Indian.
These are just a few in my very local neighborhood.

Is it me, or is Fairway in Paramus taking a turn for the worse?

Have you been to the Totowa Fairway? I find this store to be superior to Paramus. They always seem to have specials that don't show up in Paramus. $5.99 Moz, olive oil on sale, bulk sales and a nice beer selection. Because it was a Pathmark its quite a bit bigger than the Paramus store and they haven't started moving everything around like they keep on doing in Paramus. They have also have a few good prime meat sales in the last few months. As far as Carrados goes if you are very selective there are very good deals to be had on produce. The meats and cheeses are a different story.

I went right after it opened. Good cheese steak (but expensive, $10). Not worth making a special trip for it.
