Sunday Brunch for 20 - 30...something French

If you're on a budget check out Sel et Poive on the upper east side. They arrange nice parties and have a bistro atmosphere, but no private room.

best cake in NYC?

Admittedly my suggestion is fancy, but it is sooo delicious -- the crepe cake at Lady M.

UES Italian Recs

Spigolo. Last time I went to Erminia (a few months ago) I wasn't that impressed. I think Spigolo tops sfoglia. I also like Sette Mezzo (cash only)

Rice & Beans Near Bloomingdales?

Cabana has a good lunch special near bloomingdales (60th and 3rd). Also, Sofrito is on 57th and 1st and has pretty authentic rice and beans.

sugar free chocolates...

The best sugar-free chocolate I've had is in Brooklyn at a place called JoMart. You practically can't tell it's sugar-free!

restaurant for post-wedding cocktails/hors d'oeuvres

Easter Dinner in Port Douglas

Thanks for the suggestions!

Best Bay Ridge Italian for dinner?

Gino's

Easter Dinner in Port Douglas

Any suggestions for an easter family dinner in Port Douglas or the surrounding area? We're visiting from NY and enjoy good food! Thanks.

Inexpensive rehearsal dinner options

She had less than 50 (about 40) so they actually kept a few tables open in the front, but the party dominated the restaurant. For 50 people or more they might close it for the night. BTW, I think they had a price including wine that you may want to look into.

Inexpensive rehearsal dinner options

Try Sel et Poivre. It's a french bistro on the upper east. A friend had her RD there and it was in that price range for a three course meal. I thought it was a nice, relaxed place and the food was good.

Brunch spot on UES for a couple and both sets of parents

There is also a sarabeth's at the Whitney Museum and there isn't usually a wait there.

A restaurant for an architect...?

How about per se or one of the time warner restaurants?

"Charming" Private Room

What about Lupa or Alice's Tea Cup. Very different options. I hosted a party at Lupa and we had a good experience.

Need cheap non-diner for group of 20 in Oct.

Just realized you need space for 20 people so my prior suggestions don't apply... Sambuca?

Need cheap non-diner for group of 20 in Oct.

Cafe Mogador?

Also, what about Indian on 6th street between 1st and 2nd avenue. I can't think of a specific one, but there are a lot of little restaurants on that block and most of them are affordable.

La Esquina Cantina might be another good option (not the restaurant, or the taco stand, but the little restaurant around the corner from the taco stand).

Accademia di Vino

I tried Accademia di Vino, new place on 64th and 3rd this weekend. We couldn't get a table and instead ate at the bar. Despite the slight annoyance about the table situation, I thought it was pretty good. I liked the grilled pizza with mushrooms and the pasta cacio e pepe was delicious. The bar was a little understaffed considering they were serving dinner there, but all in all a decent experience and good addition to the neighborhood. Anyone else try it and have thoughts on other dishes?

GREAT Italian???

I second the Da Nico suggestion.

Bora Bora/Moorea Food Suggestions?

I just got back from bora bora two weeks ago. Everything is expensive and even moreso than you can imagine. We did a meal plan at our hotel (the nui) that we thought was worth it b/c if you weren't on the plan the prices were really expensive. We went out to two dinners:

1- Villa Mahana- amazing food and our favorite meal and is my only "gotta try" place. It is an intimate place with only a few tables. This probably came to $350 with wine.

2- Lagoon- the food was good but not amazing and the service was really slow. This was in the same range as Villa Mahana.

One cheap eats suggestion is to go into town to Chin Lee Grocery Store. Ask the hotel to empty your minibar and stock up on wine and snacks which can help get you through a few light lunches...

I hope you have an amazing time!

Where to eat on the UES?

Wine Bar: Small Etas Unis, Sharz
Burgers: JG Melon, Jackson Hole (the 64th street one is best)
Italian: Spigolo (not cheap but very good)
Pizza: Al forno, Nicks
Brunch: Cafe D'Alcace (excellent bread basket)
Turkish: Beyoglu
Mexican: Zocalo

The most intimate fine dining restaurant in Manhattan?

Erminia, Upper East side, only a few tables...

Back from Santa Barbara

I read the reviews on the board and picked my restaurants accordingly...

Our favorite meal was Downey's. Everything was superb and so fresh. I started with the tomato salad, then the halibut with a lemon cream type of sauce, a third cheese course (do it) and then finally a peach ice cream dessert in strawberry sauce. Each course was amazing.

La Super Rica was great. The lines move fast and the food was pretty good and very inexpensive. My only issue was that I wish someone had mentioned that the portions were small. Order multiple things if you go. Perfect spot for lunch.

Cava in Montecito was a walk-in. I really liked the atmosphere of the town and the place. The portions were large and the food was good but didn't stand out like the other places.

Ca'Dario was very good. The food was excellent, but the night we ate there the service was a little slow...

Overall there are many great restaurants in Santa Barbara -- Enjoy!

Ischia or Capri- Best

I want to send my parents to dinner at one of the best restaurants in ischia or capri. Any thoughts?

Graduation/Last NYC meal

Per se hands down. But, it's so difficult to get a reservation. Other also include Danube, Daniel and Babbo (pasta tasting).

Rehearsal dinner in Manhattan for 60 people

Fiamma has a private event space. I went to a party there and the food was great may be pricier than $70-100.

Other good party spaces include: Blue Water Grill, Jane, Macelleria, Battery Gardens, Da Nico (fun little italy place). Granted these aren't top food places but its hard to find both great food/private space and stay within a reasonable budget. Good luck!

Bora Bora Reccs?

Any suggestions for good restaurants in Bora Bora? I will be there for 5-6 days so I welcome both casual and up-scale reccs. Thanks!

Recommendation for Surprise Birthday Dinner in SF

I'm not an SFer but I went to a birthday dinner at Suppenkuche, a german place, and thought it was really fun for a group and very casual. It's not italian but check it out...

Just back from Vancouver/Victoria

Had a great couple of meals there...

Victoria:
Palgiacci's was great for inexpensive but delicious hearty Italian food.

Vacouver:
West was on the very expensive side but it was an excellent meal. I had a risotto with chanterelles and a beef tenderloin dish. The waitress said the chef actually researched the rice for the risotto for months and ages it for over a year. The beef tenderloin dish was excellent!

Guu Garlic (Robson). This was a Japanese tapas place that was another great meal. I particularly loved the deep fried dishes like deep fried mashed potato, corn and chicken-- really interesting combo that you wouldn't expect. Very nice waiters!

Just Back from Seattle and San Juan Island

Had several great meals while out there!

Seattle:
Salumi-- Loved it for lunch! I had an amazing sausage sandwich at this eatery owned by Mario Batali's parents. They had great smoked meats and cheeses. Everything looked tantalizing and they couldn't have been nicer. Long lines but worth the wait!

Palace Kitchen-- Very good. I had a pork ravioli with sage for an appetizer that was excellent and cherry roasted chicken that also was very good.

San Juan Island:
120 Nichols-- Another loved it! I had a delicious potato crusted halibut with a chardonnay cream sauce. Honestly amazing. Highly worth the short walk from Friday Harbor.
