Best Spot in Amherst MA for dinner?

I do not recommend Chez Albert. Food was uneven, service was abysmal and the lights were so dark I couldn't see my mediocre food. So disappointed by the food in Amherst so far...

Ok haters, I've been there a few times now, mostly for take-out, and it's quite good. The carne asada is great, as is the carnitas filling for tacos. They also have delicious homemade salsas. It gets very crowded and is quite small, but the flavors are on point!

Anyone been to the new Mexican joint down by the Moan and Dove? I think it just opened... We are about to move to the area so I am scoping out the chow scene.

does anyone know where the AMAZING bialys that they sell at the butcher shop in N. Brattleboro come from? They are better than H&H!

Where do you eat with your young kids?

Great topic! We have a 15 month old who we have brought out to get from the get-go. It's getting more difficult, but we are committed!
Some of our faves:
Highland Kitchen- go early on weeknights or for brunch. They are very accommodating and the food is good. They don't really have a kids menu, but we just get her a plate and then take the leftovers home
Redbones- not my favorite place for BBQ, but great for kids. Food comes out FAST, which is a blessing, and there's lots of noise to distract other customers from the squeaks and screams coming from our table!
Deluxe Town Diner- been mentioned here already, but have to give it a big thumbs up. They have awesome clip-on seats for the kids, too. And beer.
JP Seafood- Great brunch bento-boxes, which sound weird but are perfect for kids.
Flatbread Pizza in Davis- the food is eh, but the atmosphere is great for kids. Come here for lunch on a weekend and it's all families. And again, beer.

These are just a few off the top of my head!

Birthday dinner challenge- help me hounds!

Ok hounds, here's a real challenge
My birthday is next week and am planning to head out with the huz to have a good meal. The problem is that I am in my first trimester of pregnancy and having HORRIBLE heartburn. I know, I know, TMI, but I need help.
Looking for a place that has food that is not too rich (aka no spaetzle) or too spicy. It seems like every place that we love to go slathers on the butter, oil and chile. Which is normally not a problem?
Anyone have recs for places with good "lighter" food? We are adventurous and love to try new spots.
Thanks y'all!

Tupelo in Cambridge

Went there last week on a hot night- it was really crowded and loud, but the waitstaff was attentive and the food mostly good!
We had the grits-cubes and mussels for apps- both were good. Be sure to share the grits, though, they fill you up!
For mains, I had the crepes and the man had the gumbo. Gumbo wins hands-down! It was so so so so good- this might sound sacrilegious, but it was better than any I had on my recent trip to NOLA... The crepes were good, a bit heavy, and not as exciting as the gumbo.
We'll be back for sure! The jambalaya of the day is calling my name... I can hear it now.

Chinatown spot for slightly adventurous teenagers?

Hey hounds,
I am taking a group of 10-12 students to Chinatown for lunch in a few weeks and am looking for a good spot.
They are pretty adventurous and very into food- hounds in training! I would like to hit up a place that is legit but also has eggrolls and such for the less-daring in the bunch. Does anywhere do dim sum during the week?
Thanks!

Craigie on Main, Brunch

My husband and parents took me out to C.O.M for a birthday brunch and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps if there had been donuts it would have been another story...
I found the food quite heavy for brunch, with a bit too much fat and salt (you're right dfan) for my noontime taste. The OJ was amazing and the service was impeccable as usual, but I would have liked some lighter, fruit-based options. I think I might stick to Craigie for suppers...

Looking for eats in Broadmoor, volunteer chow

We're staying at the Annunciation Mission on S. Claiborne. It would be great to have a spot to walk to, but we'll have a van too. Thanks!

Looking for eats in Broadmoor, volunteer chow

Hey hounds
I'm leading a group of high school kids to volunteer in Feb... we have meals provided at the place we're staying but would like to head out for a fun dinner with the gang one night. Looking for authentic chow in a non-bar (underage kids) that won't break the bank. Also any ideas for places to walk to in Broadmoor (where we're staying) for dessert/ice cream at night?
Thanks!
