Where I've Been Eating in Delray
Honestly, I don't really think that DaDa is a good place to take someone his age. The servers are young and alternative, and it gets VERY loud in there. A nice birthday spot might be 32 East--I'm not speaking from experience, just what I've read on this topic, as well as what I saw. 32 East looked like a very elegant, classy place. That might be a better fit for your father's birthday celebration.
Again, DaDa is excellent, but the ambiance might not offer what you need.
Where I've Been Eating in Delray
So, I had a wonderful time in Delray Beach. I just wanted to share some feedback about the suggestions I found here. First of all, DaDa surpassed our expectations. We found a buy-one-entree, get-one-free coupon, so first off, it was a great deal. And I was so wow'ed by the food, service, and atmopshere. It was a great surprise, and I heartily recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried it.
Unfortunately, we were not so lucky with Boston's. The place we were staying happened to be down the street, so we walked there one evening for dinner downstairs. We ordered the conch fritters for an appetizer and we both had grilled grouper for entrées. The conch fritters were all right, although I was surprised that they were served with cocktail sauce since they were glorified hush puppies. The grouper we had was so incredibly awful. Even Red Lobster knows how to cook fish better than that. I don't know how long they left the grouper on the grill, but I would guess it was around 25 minutes. I had to use my knife and fork to cut into it, as it had the texture of overcooked chicken. I was livid, but, against my better judgment, I did not bother saying anything because our server seemed as if she could not care less about our experience. What a terrible waste of time and money. Perhaps the quality of food in the upstairs section is far better? And I know how restaurants have their off days, but for a seafood restaurant, such a severe error is egregious. To anyone visiting the area and reading this, I would strongly suggest skipping Boston's. Neither the view nor atmosphere are worth it. Luckily, we had a mind-blowing dinner the next night at Michy's in Miami, and a dinner at DaDa a few days later, so by the end of our stay, it was only a distant, unpleasant memory.
Thank you again to all of your for your suggestions. I loved Delray Beach, and hope to return another time! If you ever need recommendations about where to eat in NYC, please be in touch!
Best Eats In Miami
Thank you all for the suggestions. I actually made a reservation at Michy's, but will also try to visit Talula as well. Thanks again!
Best Eats In Miami
I'm going to piggy-back onto this conversation. I have only one day to spend in Miami, and I'm a NYC-foodie hoping to have a memorable dinner at restaurant that exemplifies what dining in Miami is all about. I'm more interested in the food than in the trend-setting scene. From what I've read on this board, it seems Miami restaurants focus more on the social scene than great cooking (something I'm familiar with in NYC), but I'm still optimistic!
So far, I'm now convinced that I need to have lunch at Versailles. I just need to pick a place for dinner. I have a decent budget set aside, about $60/person. I looked into Osteria del Teatro, but the menu did not entice me. I checked out Talula's website, and the food looks great, but no prices are listed.
With that, where should I have my one and only dinner in Miami?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!
Where I've Been Eating in Delray
Thanks so much for the recs so far! Any thought on where to find good Cuban food in Delray, or should I try to get some when I visit Miami?
Where I've Been Eating in Delray
Jennifer--
I am visiting Delray Beach for the first time later this month. Do you have any recommendations for places to eat in that area (besides what you've already listed)?
Thanks!
Where to eat in Fort Myers?
Randy's Fishmarket looks so delicious--I can't wait to visit! Grouper and Chips sounds great too--I'll be eating as much grouper as possible! I'll look out for Plaka, too! Thank you!
(Any more suggestions are welcome, of course!)
Where to eat in Fort Myers?
I am visiting Fort Myers from NYC at the end of April, and was wondering where to eat? I know it's a broad question, but any suggestions are welcome! I am hoping to eat at some great seafood restaurants, whether divey or classy, and anything else that I should definitely not miss while in the area.
Thank you in advance!
Good Deals at Lunch for an Amazing Meal?
Thank you all for your suggestions. Blackbird keeps coming up, not only in this post, but also in other posts, so I have made a reservation there. I'll have to save up for a dinner at Alinea or Tru for my next trip!
Thank you again.
Good Deals at Lunch for an Amazing Meal?
I am a foodie visiting from New York City, and work in the restaurant industry. I am looking for a Tru-quality meal (I've heard great things!) at a more affordable price--are there any lunch deals? I've noticed that Tru, Trotter's, and Alinea are all closed for lunch, but was hoping there was a Per Se-like lunch deal out there?
My budget is around $150 for two people--if lunch is an impossibility, would also love dinner recommendations for places as good as Tru, Alinea, etc, without the price tag.
Thanks!
