Where can I find Boston's best and freshest fried haddock plate?

Fresh Pond Seafood in Arlington has it as a special this week.

Ethnic Festivals Boston Area Summer 2011

This is great list--does anyone know how to get a similar list of Polish picnics in Central MA and CT?

Fresh or Frozen Cranberries nearby?

Does anyone know a local source for fresh or frozen (prob. frozen) cranberries right now? I need them for a school luncheon.

Looking for nut rolls (aka povitica or potica)...know any eastern european bakeries?

Karl's Sausage Kitchen in Saugus might have it for the holiday--it is potica, and it is Hungarian. It is a sweet yeast dough around either a nut or ground poppy seed filling.

Portugese sweet bread/Easter Bread

Central Bakery, Walnut Street, Peabody. Fabulous Portuguese breads very inexpensive.

Local source for sour cherries now?

I was going to order them, but I can't see spending $42 shipping on a $26 order.

Where should I buy a ham?

Yes, that is more what I have in mind, thanks.

Where should I buy a ham?

I need a ham for about 10 people for this Saturday. Where should I go?

I Don't Like Cheese - Am I Alone?

I love your old lady! More power to her--and not just about not eating food she didn't want to.
I love most cheeses, but I have to say I am not surprised at those who don't--there is plenty to dislike: sour taste + fatty mouth feel, plus notes of grass, and socks and sweet all together. I could almost talk myself out of it....almost.

Atlantic Monthly: Someody has food issues

I honestly loved the article and thought he completely nailed it. The line between appreciating food and fetishizing it has gotten very hard to see.

81st birthday dinner

One option: Summer Shack. The access at Alewife is quite good--very few stairs, easy parking, flat, smooth parking lot (I have so been there with my mom). There is also a hanicapped elevator if you need it. And the standard fish dishes are great. If you call ahead, request a chair or a booth for you dad, so he isn't sitting with no back suuport on one of the benches.

What discontinued products do you miss?

YES--Sunshine Lemon Coolers! I could polish off the whole box as a teenager.

Fresh Pond Fish reopening

Perfect--just in time for Lent!

Winchester stuff besides Parsons/Gingerbread Co/Swanton St. Diner?

Sakura has reasonable sushi as you head up Main Street, one block past Swanton St (yellow house). Also a reasonable chinese place on Main Street at the corner of Skillings Road.

What is everyone doing for dinner tonight?

Greek festival in Arlington!

Bob Lobster - Newbury, Ma.

We were just there too--great clams, and yes, there is some indoor seating.

Info on Chinese Chicken Salad

But...what is different about it, exactly?

Mother's Day near Mt. Auburn Cemetary?

Thanks all; I like the suggestions for another time, too. My brother wanted to go to Tango (we live in Arlington), and we all enjoyed a great meal.

Mother's Day near Mt. Auburn Cemetary?

Somewhere other than Harvard Square for a late lunch/early dinner, 5 people, one of whom is 7. suggestions?

Lunch near National Heritage Museum

Not to be picky but that plaza is in fact in Lexington. I eat in all of them often. Arlington Heights also has the more ordinary Panera and the recently opened La Posada.

Butter molds?

Does anyone know of a local (Greater Boston) source for an Easter butter mold,? (A lamb, usually.)

Friday night in Arlington or Belmont

Tango--it's Argentnian, but meets all the other requirements. Always a pleasant experience.

What counts as "junk food"?

Simple: junk food is any food you, or the person next to you, or the person next to him, does not approve of. It is thus a worthless concept.

Turmeric stain on plastic

I removed it from a countertop with a steel wool soap pad this weekend.

Beloved Cookbooks

Going through my cookbooks this weekend in search of fruitcake recipes, I had the pleasure of re-reading the "Better Homes and Gardens American Heritage Cookbook," published in 1975. It was a real pleasure toe both read the recipes (many, many of which I seem to have internalized) and to read their stright forward acounts of American food history. I have a good size collection of cookbooks, and hadn't been at this one is a few years, so I was very happy to read it again.

So--favorite cookbooks? Not necessariliy the most useful, or comprehensive, just ones you really enjoy. Another one at my house: The New American Cookbook, 1955 edition.

Must-See Classic Boston-Area Restaurants

What does it say about me that I'm more familiar with this list than almost any other place listed above?

Not parfait. What's the word?

It pretty much looks like Jello 1-2-3 (or vice versa).

Family foods I thought was normal

If you live in the the Boston area, you can find a dry curd brand of farmer's cheese called "Andrulis" farmer's cheese, particualrly at Christmas and Easter. I have to hunt it down for my mom every year.

When is thanksgiving?

No, I don't think New England necessarily has a relish tray (sepaking as a native). Mind you, it's sounds like a great idea, and I love them, but I do not automatically associate them with Thanksgiving .

Ball Elite canning jars

Wanamaker's Hardware in Arlington Hts. had them last time I looked.
