drinks near Il Buco
go to the bar at the cooper square hotel. they have some great drinks. if not that, check out madame geneve around the corner from double crown. both have great cocktail menus, are fun, and less than 5 minute walk from il buco.
Is there anything like AVEC in NYC
In terms of "feel", i would say the Momofuku's are the closest thing to Avec. You really can't go wrong at ssam bar or noodle bar. Good food, fun staff, good music, etc The east village is just a fun place to go out to dinner as well.
Sushi Search
some of my favorites have already been suggested (15 east, kanoyama, jewel bako, etc). some other names i would suggest, in terms of high quality, authentic sushi would be...
Sushi zen - 43rd (or 44th) just off 6th avenue. very authentic, serious attention to detail, reasonable prices (at lunch at least). Brought some Japanese friends there who know all the good spots in NYC and they walked out quite impressed.
Sushi Azabu (in the tribeca grille). Went with some friends who used to live in tokyo, and they thought it was one of the best spots in NYC. quite expensive though

Seeking a Lobster Roll In Lower Manhattan
Also agree on Luke's. In fact, i had delivery from there tonight for the 2nd time this week! i also suggest trying their new england clam chowder...amazing. Mermaid Inn is great too. If you find yourself in mid-town and are willing to spend a little extra dough, Oceana has a great lobster roll as well.
