Amsterdam over New Year's

Hello there, my husband and I will be in Amsterdam from Dec. 28 through Jan 1st. Then continuing on to Ireland for a wedding. This is our first trip alone since our daughter was born 4 years ago. We are staying at the Banks Mansion. We will be having dinner on New Year's eve at Pianeta Terra based on ease and recommendation from the Hotel. I am looking for suggestions on inespensive but yummy places for dinner and lunch the other nights. We will also be going to Sanpurna (sp) one night. I eat everything but my husband does not eat fish. It has been over 10 years since I was last in Amsterdam so really looking for any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Going away drinks and apps in Downtown Crossing Area

Hello all,

I will be leaving my current job of 7 years in August. I have been asked to come up with a suggestion for a place for after work drinks. I would love the place to also have some great appetizers. Two conditions: It is going to be on a Monday (ugh) and would like it to be in the Downtown Crossing area. Previously we have done JM Curleys but the problem is there may be a lot of people attending and JM Curleys has not been the best for that in the past. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Really glad to hear that. Way back in the day, I used to volunteer at Childrens and it is a great hospital. Best of luck to you.

Also, it has been a long time but the cafe at the art museum used to be fairly nice and I believe the art museum is now free.

10 days in Cincinnati with my kid!

Just wanted to add that even though it will be January, the Zoo would be a wonderful place to stop by. Also, the Cincinnati Museum Center would be fun as well. There is a Children's Museum, Natural Science Musuem, Historical Society and an IMAX.

Keith Gilabert: "Two words,,,,, chili-spaghetti at Bob's Big boy!"

I am from Cincinnati and like to say that I have skyline chili running through my veins.

We also have Big Boy's in Cincy. I like their chili spaghetti. It is different. It is good but does not have the same spice blend as classic Cincinnati chili. It is more just a meat sauce and the huge difference is that it does not come with a mile high pile of shredded orange cheese.

First-trimester hounding

Congratulations. I had horrible "morning" sickness the whole time I was pregnant. Not just the first trimester. I was not able to eat salad (lettuce) the whole time I was pregnant. I also had the added issue that I was told to gain a bit more weight than normal.

For breakfast, on the advice on my doctor, I had a carnation instant breakfast every morning. That helped get something in my stomach before I left the house.

I have also heard that for some people lemon helps their nausea so try lemon in all of that water you are supposed to drink.

Day Care Lunch: Really Need Some Help

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. She really does like most things. Soups and stews are a good idea and I will try those next. Today see went with some left over corned beef hash (which she had for dinner and loved) and a half of a sunflower butter/jam sandwich. We will see how that goes. Bored was a bit of an odd word choice but I think the problem is I have a small rotation of items and I think she has decided that she is going to be difficult to get a new variety. Trust me this 16 month old is way more strong willed than most. And adorable. Thanks again.

Day Care Lunch: Really Need Some Help

I have a 16 month old that attends daycare. We need some new lunch ideas. She is generally a very good eater and will try most thing but I think she has gotten bored. I do not have a way to heat things up. Lunch goes in an insulated lunch box and I have a thermos. If it is a hot item, I generally heat it up in the microwave that morning and put in a baggie and then put in the lunch box. Lunch is eaten at around 11:30 so things are not in the box/thermos for too long.

Anyone have any ideas that they can share. I am really getting desperate. The only thing she cannot bring is anything with nuts. Thank you thank thank you in advance.

Daughter's First Birthday Party

So I need some help. We are having about 15 people over including a 10 month old, and another 1 year old over for my daughter's birthday. The party is at 3 so not requiring a lot of food. I need some ideas for things to serve. I want things to be very easy but I also want there to be some finger food ideas for the little ones. Husband is taking care of the cake (a Bruins one at that). Really just in a rut and need some new ideas. The only restriction is nothing with peanuts.

I love seafood/shellfish but husband doesn't. Help!!!

So my husband and I are going to NO in November for a long weekend. I am very much looking forward to sightseeing and eating; he sightseeing and drinking. I love shimp, oysters, crawfish, and everything else of that variety. He however does not. I am looking for some suggestions where we will both be happy. Extra points if the places are pretty inexpensive. I am a big fan of good food that is cheap. Thanks.

Regional favorite that you just didn't get once you finally had a chance to try it

I am a native cincinnatian who now lives up North. It kills me that I can't get to skyline easily. So I just have to defend the stuff. I will say though that I think you really have to be from Cincy to enjoy it. The first time my now husband came to Cincinnati with me and tried skyline he hated it. I almost had to end our engagement. Now he loves the stuff. I also like Larosas so maybe I just have bad taste in food. :) Now I want a 3 way and a coney.

Need rec. for dinner-10 people, visiting from Ohio

Good morning all,

My Aunt and Uncle and some of their friends are coming to Boston next week for the first time. I have been asked to make dinner reservations for a Wednesday night for 10 people. That was all I was given. So I need some help. Looking for something moderately priced. Since they have not been to Boston before, I am thinking something that is unique to Boston. My initial thoughts were something in the Fanhueil hall area or the North End. I realize that this might not be the most 'chowish' question but really need a bit of direction. Thanks in advance.

North Conway Dinner

Just to add something to this, I am not much of a hiker. My husband does a winter overnight trip at Tucks in March every year. We are going up there this weekend to bury his food for next weekend.

I have done the hike twice. Now, I am not doing the entire thing. Just up to the shelters. Yes, it is difficult but with snowshoes it is not impossible. Go with someone who knows where they are and what they are doing. I definitely don't recommend with kids.

To get back to the chow, I am looking for a rec for a place that does take out in North Conway. We will be staying in a hotel with our dog so no eating out. Any recs?

North Conway-Take Out Recs

Hi, my husband, dog and I will be stayin gin North Conway this coming Saturday. Since we will have the dog, we will need to get take out to eat back at the hotel. Any recommendations for a good take out place in the North Conway area? Thanks.

Can I really save money by joining Costco?

Our membership to Costco just expired and we took a look at BJs (which we used to be a member of). We decided to rejoin BJs. The prices were identical on most items. The real thing is that for the every day items that we need the selection at BJs was better. As my husband said, for our normal usage BJs is what we need but Costco is better for Christmas presents. I do agree with the previous poster that you should just take a look at the two and then make your decision. Also, at the one BJs the customer service was not so hot but at the one closest to our new house it is the same as at Costco. Just my two cents

Two Angry Moms - a documentary

Also just to point out, the school I went to (a private school where lunch was part of the tuition) did not allow you to bring a pack lunch. Granted this was many years ago but still.
