Asheville for Easter Weekend
We will be spending a long Easter Weekend in Asheville and are looking for recomendations on the best restaurants the City has to offer.
We will be staying at the condo of a friend, which I believe is near the downtown area.
Dinner options I have found that look appealing include: Fig Bistro, Table, Rezaz & Cucina24. Any opinions on these locations? Any other options?
We will be spending Friday at touring the Biltmore Mansion, are there lunch choices near by?
Saturday we hope to spend enjoying the galleries and artists downtown, and would like to plan ahaed for a good lunch.
We are planning on Easter Brunch at the Grove Park Inn.
Thanks for your help.
Dinner Suggestion in Orlando
Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
We ended up eating at Johnie's Hideaway and Moonfish. Both were excelent, and my only complaint may be the servings are too large. The seafood was fresh, the service was attentive, even the sides were excellent.
At Johnie's I had a Seabass, which was simply grilled perfectly, well seasoned and served with a fondue of lemon butter buer blanc with crab & lobster. My dinner companion had a steak, which he descirbed as one of the best he ever tried. As a side we got the big boy tater tots, large, fresh potatoe tots with bacon and cheese inside. May not be the fanciest dish, but it was wonderful.
We went to Moonfish with my family. We shared the combination appetizer of crab cakes, fried shrimp and calamari. The crab cakes were almost all crab meat, and well seasoned. The shrimp were freshly fried with a thin and crisp crust.
After eating all weekend, I could stayed lighter with the tuna sashimi appetizer as my main dish. It was excellent, as were all dishes at the table.
TOP PIZZA IN FLA
Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza - multiple locations around southeast Florida, but the original on Federal Highway in Ft. Lauderdale is still the best.
Birmingham - Silvertron
We had brunch at Silvertron Sunday, it was ok, and I will give it a second try.
Our choices were very simple, I had the chicken ceaser salad roll up with mac & cheese. Overall good, but the mac & cheese is very oily. The chicken tasted as if it was microwaved after being in the fridge. My partner had the grillades (sp?) and grits. The eggs were served room temp, but overall he enjoyed it.
One picky note at a sit down restaurant nicer then a diner or waffle house condiments such as cream cheese should not be served in individual plastic packets. There is no reason they can not provide them in a small bowl.
Starving in Ft. Lauderdale
Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, it has multiple locations, but the original on Federal Highway is still the best. The pizza choices are not the usual and include a cheesesteak pizza, an eggplant pizza with no cheese. The crust is thin and crisp with the wonderful char from the coal oven. The wings are amazing, also cooked in the coal fired oven and covered in carmalized onions.
Palm Beach Next Weekend - Recommendations?
Il Bellagio at City Place is excellent for fresh italian food, they have a menu with great variety from traditional italian to light and fresh dishes. The patio seating outside is next to the fountain (which has a water show regularly) and should be very nice this time of year.

It is definately a step up in quality from the chains, and when it is done, most likely no more expensive the the Cheesecake Factory.
Dinner Suggestion in Orlando
Dinner Suggestion in Orlando
We will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress and are looking for suggestions for dinner on a Thursday evening. Looking for an upper end restaurant offering good and interesting food. Not interested in chain restaurants or just the 'typical'.
Any suggestions?
Birmingham - Silvertron
I have not been in a while, but based on your good experiences I will try it again. The last few times I tried it out, shortly after the new owners took over, I was not impressed. I have begun to hear more good things again.
Like you I am just a few blocks away, and it would be great to have a decent restaurant to add to the choices.
Birmingham, AL wedding rehearsal dinner
There are many good choices downtown:
John's City Diner can accomodate groups in a room, the prices are reasonable, and the food quality is good (not always great, but always good). I have had multiple private dinners there and been satisfied. The atmosphere is old fashioned diner, and a bit dated. There website has sample party menus.
Cafe Dupont has a private room, I do not know the seating capacity. Definately pricier, but the quality of the dishes is a step up from John's as well. I have had spotty experiences with them both in food and service. Always good, but not alway what is expected at the fine dining prices. The private room is very nice, it is on the second floor and overlooking the street through large plate glass windows.
B&A warehouse is an event space downtown. Interesting rustic warehouse atmoshpere. I have never had a sit down dinner there, but have been to many cocktail events and the food is always excellent. They have multiple rooms for different size events.
Birmingham bakeries
Best cupcakes in town: Angels in Crestline village (cakes and gellato also awsome)
Continental Bakery is great for traditional baked goods and bread - in English Village
The cake bites at Pastry Arts in Homewood are amazing, the perfect ratio of icing to cake, the perfect sweetness for the size.
Edgars has great all around desserts. I love the thumb drop cookies and cakes are excellent.
I find the baked goods at V.Richards to be a bit dry and bland, they are more worried about making things big and pretty then tasting good.
Birmingham bakeries
You missed out, Angels cupcakes (chocolate and caramel) are absolutely amazing.
Bham -- New French Place?
The menu looks promising, I have been hesitant but may need to try it out.
Has any one else been there to give a report?
Birmingham, Best Cheeseburger?
With out a doubt Chz Fon Fon is the best burger in town. A great burger also needs great fries along with it, and they win in that catagory as well.
26 also does a very good burger, and their fries are great.
VRichards can make a great burger and fries, unfortunately the quality of food (and service) is very hit or miss. We eat there regularly because of the convience and wish for greater consistency.
Five Guys in Brookwood is great for the guitly indugence of an old fashioned greasy burger and fries.
