Uncle Betty's Diner

Had brunch last weekend. Average service, ok donuts and bad traditional breakfast. Asked for lightly scrambled and it came overcooked, asked for dry toast and it came with butter. Toast was also standard bread like wonder. Way too much hype and will not be going back except maybe for Greg's ice cream.

Zee Grill - (relatively) kid-friendly?

Decent atmosphere, good service and kid friendly but the food is underwhelming. Would not go back. there are many more better seafood joints with similar prices; such as StarFish, chinatown seafood joints, rodney's, diana's, quince (serves some seafood).etc.

Peking Duck for TWO - Emperor, Brilliant, Other?

would that include clams in black bean sauce?

The PK duck at Peak Top is great. Although I wish they would serve the pancakes in a steamer to keep them warm. They are also the only place that slices the cucumber realitvely thin, other joints are so thick making it hard to wrap.

Does anyone know where I can get authentic British style Crispy Duck Pancakes in Toronto?

Try Peaktop restaurant in First Markham Place. But it is the whole duck!

best breakfast joint in Toronto?

Mildred Pierce Kitchen - amazing scones and biscuits. Green eggs and ham, fluffly pancakes!

Barque - brisket hash, appelwood smoked bacon, all made in house!

is fresh tuna (for sushi) ok in the fridge overnight?

of course, just wrap it really well airtight.

Good morning. Looking for the ultimate Lunch Box to take to work. THE ULTIMATE

How about buying a collapsible cooler and filling it wih your own containers?
http://www.1st-product.com/catalogs/10-412-0/Cooler-Bag.html

You might need two - one for hot and one for cold. Or just zap the hot stuff in the microwave if you can/want.

Alternative - if you can. Buy a mini fridge and leave it at work by your desk/in your office. That is for your cold stuff and then get a cooler for your hot stuff.

Looking for a KOSHER brisket

Costco near Dufferin has Kosher meats including brisket. not sure if you will find it too lean or not.

Need Venue HELP please! 50th Birthday

Might want to increase the budget to about $70 a person - although you are not serving a full sit down meal the open bar and appetizers will bring the price way up. Appetizers are more expensive to make and very time consuming prep.

ISO mung bean noodles, ideally in midtown

Unromantic spots for Valentine's Day

Barque on Roncesvalles - It's a great place and super casual so highly unlikely to find couples making googly eyes

Go to an expensive Chinese joint - Yang's, Lai Wah Heen

Tarts in Muffin Pan

A pastry tamper will also help with shaping the piece of dough into a tart shape so you don't need to use your fingers.

South China Restaurant on Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Toronto. Have you tried their take-out?

I would not recommend this restaurant at all - nothing authentic about it. Especially given the vast higher quality Chinese food in GTA. I wasla lso desperate and order the ho fun and it arrived grey, lack of real flavour, freshness and demonstration of a chef that jnows what to do with the ingredients. Also ordered a chow mein - the noodles they used were instant type noodles.

Congee Queen on Lawrence and Don Mills is infinitely better unfortunately they do not deliver but you can order in advance and pick up.

Do all Costcos carry the same things?

Costco near Wilson also has lots of European favs like artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, etc. Only Costco I know of that carries fresh turkey parts - Kosher. Awesome veal chops too. More cheese variety too.

Markham / Scarborough stores have more Asian stuff like dried mushrooms, moon cake (seasonal), oyster sauce (seasonal).

ISO Best Pasta Sauce commonly available in Toronto

1.18L - White linen really is the best store bought Marinara. Tastes fresh, like summer tomatoes. Some times Csotco has discounts on it so that is when I stock up.

NYC Hound staying at Ritz - Downtown Dinner Recs needed

For $200 US, take a cab up north and eat Chinese. Your meal might cost you $50 and the rest will go to return cab fare.

Any Southern U.S. style breakfast sausage available in stores? (a la Jimmy Dean or Bob Evans)

How about Johnsonville sausages found in just about every grocery store?
Have you tried Costco's breakfast sausages in their fresh meat counter?
Walmart super centers carries many US brands so try them
Quebec has a popular brand called La Belle Fermiere - frozen sausages - might be able to find them in TO.

WHERE to BUY Ceramic/Appetizer Spoons???(Toronto)

Just to clarify - these spoons are Chinese soup spoons not appetizer spoons. However if you want to use them as app spoons, recommend that you find a smaller version so that guests don't have to struggle with a huge bite.

Chinatown is pretty much the cheapest place to get these spoons and they do come in various sizes including ones for kids.

First time in Montreal - where to eat?

Le Club Chasse et Peche in Old Montreal (awesome)

Le Filet - seafood

Holders, a gastropub (atmosphere is casual but still bit pricey)

Garde Manger - not fine dining but great food

food shopping mission again

Go to Diana's seafood - all kinds of fish from everywhere
Brickworks farmers market - squash, root vegetables, beets, etc

lots of West Indian stores will have goat but usually frozen. Pre-ordering will save you time and guarantee you get what you want. Any reason for not pre-ordering?

Best Authenthic Sushi House Toronto

I like nigiri-ya sushi on millwood. super fresh. you won't find tons of selection but the quality is there and the sushi chef is Japanese. It is mostly take out but there are a couple of small tables so jut order in advance. stick to the omakase.

I think the quality is much better than Zen. Kaji is great too but different, you can't order what you want. I have been to Tsukiji and Charles is right, you will not find that here at all.
