Weekend Away at the Samoset Resort

I spent a weekend in the Rockland area in May. I ate at Primo one night. It was good, but not my favorite meal (I'm sure others will disagree). By far, the best meal of the weekend was at In Good Company in Rockland. It's a small space (although I think there was more seating in the back), but very comfortable and a good vibe. I had the beef tenderloin, and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

Lakes region Italian

Italian Farmhouse is owned by the Common Man family of restaurants. They also own Lago in Meredith. I've eaten at both (and most of their other locations) and enjoyed the food at both restaurants. For ambiance, I enjoy Italian Farmhouse more. It really is in an old farmhouse and just has that rustic feel to it. But Lago is also a good option, and it's right in Meredith with gorgeous views of the lake. Check out the menus at Both are also reasonably priced.

Places to eat in North Conway

A couple of places to consider:
For dinner or lunch - Horsefeathers (right across from the train depot) has a good variety on their menu, including burgers, pasta, etc. Love the chicken quesadilla!
For breakfast/brunch - Sunday breakfast buffet at Red Fox in Jackson. For $7.95/per person, it can't be beat. Awesome selection, and the best omelets!

Duck Fat - Portland, ME

I wasn't sure about this place, but had read so many good reviews, I tried it back in the fall. AMAZING! The fries are to die for, the sandwich was great, and the beignets were heavenly. I tried the spicy chocolate sauce with the beignets (I was told they put a little cayenne pepper in it), and couldn't believe something so odd-sounding could taste so good. Had a blast with the magnetic poetry while waiting for the food too. I will definitely return!

Best Mac & Cheese

Tried the Twisted Mac, Chicken and Cheese at Hard Rock Cafe a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. It had a great flavor and was cooked just right. Clearly a "homemade" cheese sauce. I would recommend it!
