Per Se - Salon Menu or 5 Course Lunch Menu?

I also made a reservation for Saturday lunch in July. Are we sure the 5-course is available on the weekends and not just M-F? Thanks for any info-I was planning to call and double check.

Etxebarri: Best day/time to go?

totally agree that lunch is best to enjoy the scenery. also, we had a little trouble finding the restaurant even in the daytime. the dining room is light and airy--could not ever be depressing. when we visited last spring, there were a few other parties literally from all corners of the earth. there were also a couple locals who were eating a la carte--not the several course tasting.

Not too much on these areas posted. Def. hitting Marcelo in Santiago de Compostela but this is a tourist town so would greatly appreciate any suggestions on what not to miss and what to avoid on the more casual end of the spectrum. Also, spending a couple days along the coast in S. Galicia and then driving up to Asturias for a few days--will be mainly be betw Luarca and Oviedo but are planning to head east for 1 day tow Picos de Europa. We eat it all--thanks!

Help--weekend lunch spot in Columbia County, NY/Egremonts/G. Barrington

We are driving this weekend from North Stamford, CT to Great Barrington, MA via Columbia County--any good roadfood or casual lunch spots that are worth a stop? Lunch in Great Barrington or around there works too. We are doing upscale dinners so we are looking for something yummy but nothing too involved for lunch. Many thanks!

Gastronomic Honeymoon thru SW France + N Spain

Etxebarri in Axpe between Bilbao and San Sebastian-sublime. Ate there a week ago and did the tasting menu. Among the ten or so courses were excellent baby octopus, squid, eel, and of course, chuleta. Half the price of Mugaritz, which we found dismally disappointing.

Actually, Stewart House might be doable--not too too far. THANKS!

I was leaning towards Best Western:( Good news: we are off the wait list and in for the early seating on Valentine's Day.

Best Doughnuts in CT?

Coffee An', a couple blocks outside of Westport's downtown. So sinful: cakey, moist, and amazing outside crust.

On waiting list as of now... am dying to try! Is there any place to stay up there as I doubt we'll feel like making the 2 hour trek home after a 4-hour meal with wine? Many thanks for any input.

Thanks, I had heard about Hecto Uribe and am now more intrigued--not far at all from where we are staying and will likely check out Dinastia Vivanco's restaurante for lunch one day. However, we want to do tapas in Logrono one afternoon... Maybe Hector Uribe for dinner.

Thanks for the advice regarding Zuberoa--we'll use it. Maybe Akelare for lunch...

Thanks-- that is really helpful. We are definitely planning on doing pinxtos in old town and gros. In fact, that might be what I'm most excited about.

La Rioja and Basque Region

In a couple of months, my husband and I will be spending 3 nights in Rioja, 1 night in Bilbao, and 3 nights in SS before spending some time in Madrid. We are definitely hitting up Extebarri--cannot wait!

I have enjoyed reading the posts debating the merits of the finer establishments in and around SS. However, there seems to be no definitive point of view. We are leaning towards Zuberoa and Arzak. I think Mugaritz is out because others seem so divided. Neither of us are that enthusiastic about molecular gastronomy, however, we eat everything. Husband is a a wine guy and has heard mixed things about experiences at Arzak and Akelare (like buyer bears the cost of a damaged bottle). If anyone has anything else to contribute to our decision making, I would love to hear!

Regarding Rioja, has anyone eaten at either of the restaurants at Marques de Riscal? We are staying there our first night and will probably eat at the hotel out of exhaustion. For the other two days we will be based in Abalos. Any more recommedations in this area would be great.

One last thing--if we have one lunch and dinner in Bilbao, is it a total waste to eat at MB in Guggenheim for lunch? Am excited to see the museum.

THANKS in advance for any additional advice!
